15 Moving

"Yakov, your turn."

The door opened and Yakov walked out. Even though he had just woken up, his eyes were alert as he was ready to change place with William.

William arched his eyebrows. "Can't sleep?"

"Who can sleep in this kind of place?" Yakov asked back and shrugged. "Don't worry, I still have enough rest. However, we'll need to change place soon if we don't want to get killed when we're sleeping."

"I know."

Yakov sat in the living room while William moved to the bedroom to rest. There was no guidance or some sort for their survival, so they have to find out the method to get out of this place alive by themselves. There was no one who could possibly help them in this situation.

In the end, William only rested for a short time before it was time to move. They ate some canned food then went down to the military car that Yakov had borrowed to bring the guns and ammunition to this place.

"I'm surprised it's still in a good condition," William remarked when he checked the car.

Yakov nodded. "It's a hard car, so it's not that weird if it's still intact even after a few Xermo attacked it. However, I don't know how long the fuel can last before it run out."

William looked at the fuel indicator and sighed. The gas station was located quite far from here and circling around on the street could be dangerous. Neither one of them would want to attract Xermo's attention to them. At the same time, they wouldn't be able to use their gun freely unless they want to risk igniting the fire and possibly turn the entire gas station into a sea of fire.

That would be awful.

"Where should we go?"

"There's a nearby hotel with excellent security not far from here," Yakov said. "Can we head there?"

"If they're still standing firm, do you think that they'll allow us to get close to the hotel?" William asked back.

"That's…"

"We can try to take a look from a distance?" Gloria asked, not feeling totally sure. If anything, she felt much safer when she was inside that dangerous lift rather than out here where they would be facing the Xermo head on. Then again, the Xermo somehow managed to find out that she was still alive on top of the lift, which attracted Yakov and William's attention.

William looked outside the window and saw some Xermo roaming around. He furrowed his brows. "Let's try to take the risk and head over to that hotel. If it's guarded heavily and not possible to come close, there should be another hotel not far from there where we could stay for a limited period of time."

"There's also an apartment not far from there," Gloria added.

"Indeed."

With the situation getting worse with each time passed, William was not entirely sure that all the buildings were still intact in their place anymore or not. In any case, he was sure that some of them would be fine because they have enough food supplies and also guards guarding the area.

Unless they were faced with mutated Xermo, there should be some spots where survivors gathered and probably banded together to face this perilous situation together. At this point of time, there might still be a lot of survivors in this location.

"Let's go."

Starting the car, Yakov began to drive. The car rushed out of the destroyed lobby and not long afterwards, it could be seen that the building could barely stand anymore. The attack from Xermo added with many other destructions that occurred had already destroyed the foundation of the building.

Gloria watched as the building trembled and threatened to fall apart. It was truly for the best that William and Yakov managed to find her. If not, she might have been buried in the rubbles without any intact corpse.

"Turn that way."

"Roger."

William watched the street with his brows furrowed. The Xermo didn't come to get them, but some of them chased after the car. Thankfully, their speed could not be compared to the car at all. It allowed to be left in the dust.

"Which way?"

"Right."

"Ok."

It was then William noticed that Yakov was unfamiliar with the road in this area. Well, they rarely came to this city in the first place, so there were some ways that they were unfamiliar with.

"Do you plan to kill them?"

"If I open fire, I'll only attract more Xermo," William responded. Until he knew how to deal with the Xermo, he didn't wish to kill himself just to kill a few Xermo that was roaming around on the street like this.

Yakov nodded. He steered the wheel to the side and looked at the street. There were a lot of abandoned cars on the street. Thankfully, the space between each car was enough for him to pass through with the military car.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

From a distance away, they could hear the faint sound of gunshot. William turned his head to the side almost immediately as his eyes scanned the buildings. There were a lot of damages and destruction along with dead bodies. However, he couldn't find out where the source of the gunshots came from.

As the car continued to move, William finally saw the source of the gunshot. It was precisely the hotel that they were aiming to head over. The hotel was still standing with a lot of Xermo roaming outside the fence. They were trying to get inside but the guards were shooting them with all they got.

"There are at least a few hundred if not a thousand Xermo over there." Yakov was stunned.

"Indeed."

There was no way they could even come close to the hotel at all.
