22 Generator

Klek!

The sound of door opening attracted their attention. However, what they saw only made them even more stunned. Gloria was walking while wiping her hand. She looked in their direction with a baffled expression.

"What are you doing over there, Yakov?"

Yakov frowned. He moved from his hiding place but his hands were still holding onto the gun. "What are you doing?"

"I'm heading to the underground room," Gloria replied while pointing to the door behind her. It was heading straight to an additional room that Rozan had.

At this time, Rozan finally snapped back from reality and walked into the house. He glanced to the direction where Gloria pointed at and nodded. "That's the storage room where I store everything that I no longer need."

"And the sound?" Yakov asked.

"It's a generator."

"Generator? What's that?"

This time, it was William's turn to look at Yakov as if he was itching to beat his best friend.

How come he didn't know what generator is?

He had just walked inside from the back door and entered the kitchen, which was located near the back of the house. It was connected to the living room by a door in the middle, so he walked straight in.

"Generator is a machine that can convert mechanical energy to electrical energy," Gloria gave the formal explanation. Even if she wanted to, she was not totally sure she could use some layman term to explain this. Well, this should be clear enough, right?

Yakov scratched his head. "What is mechanical energy?"

Gloria: "…" can I say it's energy from movement?

William sighed. "Just accept that it's a machine that can create electricity, Yakov. You're going to make me crazy with your bad knowledge."

"Hey, you're also bad!"

"That's only when it comes to those scientific terms!"

"It's the same!"

Rozan looked at the two youngsters and smiled lightly. The two of them looked scary when they made their move not long ago. But now, they acted like a child when they were with their friends.

Somehow, the sudden change in the atmosphere instead made him felt much better compared to before.

"Oh right, the generator is on?" Rozan asked in confusion. If he was not wrong, the generator hadn't been working for some time.

Gloria nodded. "I repaired it not long ago, so there should be enough electricity for this house."

Yakov stopped quarreling and looked at Gloria. For the first time ever since he heard about her, he felt that she could be useful too. Not everyone could know how to activate a generator like what she did. Without any access to the internet, they wouldn't be able to find the method even if they wasted hours to try.

"You're not bad."

"This is the least that I can do," Gloria replied sheepishly. She moved her bag and took out her laptop. "Now, am I allowed to charge this?"

"Feel free." Rozan was amused. She was clearly the one that allowed him to have electricity again in his house, so she could freely use it. Besides, he had never expected that he would be able to use electricity again.

"Thanks."

"What do you plan to do?" William asked.

Gloria glanced at William and smiled. "There should be a router that can connect to the internet, right?"

"Eh?"

After activating her laptop, Gloria began to walk around the house until she found a router and activated it. The others didn't know what they were doing and chose to leave her alone since they didn't think that they would be able to be of help.

William walked to the kitchen and noticed that there were several canned foods there. "Do you also take some foods to be able to stay here longer?"

Rozan nodded. "The refrigerator is broken, so I had no other choice but to take the canned food."

"Where do you find them?" William asked again.

"There's a convenience store down the street. I borrowed some from there yesterday when the situation had calmed down considerably."

Yakov looked at the canned food and shook his head. "It's not enough."

"We also need more water," William added. Their water supplies had been diminishing for some time. They would need a few gallons of water if they wished to survive since human needed a lot of water to be able to stay alive.

"Shall we head to the convenient store?"

William nodded. "I'll head there with Rozan. You can stay here and protect Gloria."

"What? That girl didn't need my protection!"

"Stay here."

Yakov still grumbled as he took a seat and opened one canned food. In his opinion, Gloria was strong enough to protect herself. She even managed to prepare an escape route for herself in case of emergency.

William took another canned food. "Eat first, Old Man Rozan. You wouldn't want to head there with empty stomach."

Rozan smiled and nodded. "Alright."
