It's been six years since her parents put her in the New York Mental Institution due to not being able to handle her sudden change in personalities. It wasn't a walk in the park for Venus either. She's been dealing with it all her life that she could remember. There are 25 different voices that clouds in her mind, some of children, other of adults. She has learned to communicate and rely on them when needed but they did cause problems, but she doesn't know what she would do if she didn't have them.
Venus Knight sat on her metal bed, lights off and nothing but silence around her. She had a small window, the moon was shining through the metal bars. She looked out the window, a smile curled on her lips. It was still the middle of the night, and she was the only one awake, of patients anyway. She slowly stands up and walks towards the window, her hand slowly reaching for it, but then she pulls it away. She wasn't allowed to touch the window, that she knew but she was allowed to dream Right? Sighing she stepped back and went to her metal bed, she curled into herself, feeling the cotton blanket. Its so soft, feeling the texture of the blanket. It reminded her of home. Home? Whats that? She shook her head, piecing all her memories together, causing her to wince.
She slowly sat up in bed, and placed a hand to her head. She was beginning to become dizzy, her vision blurred. She tried to stand up, but she lost her balance she falls to her knees. The cold concrete put her body to a sudden holt. She placed her hands to her head, memories flashed across her eyes like a movie.
"Venus, come here child. Take this blanket and sit in the room and wait for your father and brother to come home. " A women told her, with a scowl on her face. Her mother wasn't a pleasant women, but she loved her daughter in her own way. Listening to her mother, she placed the blanket around her and walked into her room. She sat there for a long while before her little body gave in to her tiredness. She was only five, so she wasn't used to be up so long. She woke up to her father removing the blanket off of her.
"Daddy? What are you doing?" She asked, her voice strained.
"Oh don't worry hunny, Go back to sleep." He said rubbing her leg. He was putting more weight on her.
"Daddy stop, your hurting me. " She moved, trying to get away but he forced himself on her.
Child Venus screamed as her father had his way with her. She fought him but he was too strong for her.
Venus blinked her eyes, to get out of the memory. Her head was pounding, she couldn't stand the hammering pain as if her skull was being ripped in half. She couldn't conceal her scream any longer. She screamed, and it got louder and louder. She reached for the door but she slowly faded to darkness when the last thing she saw was a women barreling in.
"Venus, darling wake up. It's Dr. Harrison. Come now, wake up. You're in a safe place. " She said shaking her slightly.
She slowly opened her eyes. Her vision was blurry, and her head was pounding. She saw Dr.Harrison before, talk to her but once. Once she got bearing, she sat up straight, head up and a scowl appeared on her face. She didn't know exactly what was going on, why she was on the floor, why the doctor was in their room, Nothing. Nothing made sense to her at the moment. But she had a feeling it would soon, she sighed and soften her face while looking away from the doctor.
"Venus, are you alright? You seemed like you had a bad dream." Dr. Harrison said. Thats when it clicked in her head, Venus remember the first night her father had raped her.
"Scarlet." She said with venom, not really meaning too. That's just how she spoke.
"Excuse me?" The doctor asked.
"My name is Scarlet. We've met before. " She said looking at her now. Her voice was a little deeper than Venus's but only slightly. With the rubber band that was on her wrist, she grabbed her long black hair and pinned it up in a neat tight bun.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Scarlet. I didn't realize you guys has switched. Do you know why that would of happened?" She asked fixing her red trimmed glasses. She liked Venus and her system, she made it her mission to know them all personally when it came to the chance to talk to them.
"The cotton blanket on our bed. Since we really couldn't sleep, Venus tried to find comfort but as she played with the cotton blanket which triggered a memory of our father. " She said in vain. Scarlet was the first alter, she was the one that who would deal with their fathers demands when Venus's body would give and she would try to fight.
Dr.Harrison sighed, placed her notebook and pen on the floor. Since they were on the floor, she though it was best to sit down there with them. She pushed her notebook and pen away from her, she didn't need to write anything down. It didn't feel right to her if she did. Dr.Harrison finally looked at Scarlet, knowing full well that it was going to be a rough day for them.
"You don't have to talk about it, I won't force you. You guys have been through enough tonight. But since I don't know you all the well Scarlet. Do you mind speaking about yourself? I want to get to know all of you personally than just as your guys therapist." Dr. Harrison said with passion in her voice. She really did care, about all of them. She hoped they knew that.
Scarlet was hesitant, She knew Dr. Harrison was just doing her job but it still made her worry for Venus. She understood the way of thinking Venus did when it came to telling people their secrets. She sighed, while messing with the seams of her dress. She hated the thing they were wearing.
"Well, my name is Scarlet, I'm the first alter. I'm the co-host of this entire system. I'm 24, my age is two years greater than Venus's age. I'm also the system's protector. When any of us is in danger for any reason, I'm on the one who comes out." She said
"Do you have anything you like to do when you are the one hosting?" The doctor asked.
"I read, all the books that we request are mainly because of me. I like staying within myself so I can concentrate. Reading also helps me focus."
"Okay, Do you have any clothes you like to wear while your hosting? I see your uncomfortable in what your wearing. "
Scarlet nodded. "I like pants, I wish we could wear actual clothing instead of this, but I understand why."
"I can make an exception for you guys. I haven't seen any reason why you can't. So We'll go out today and get clothes for everyone to feel comfortable in. Your other doctors agree with me, you've done well with your treatments. We can at least let you do a couple things you want."
Scarlet looked at the doctor. "W-wait. Really?" She asked.
Dr. Harrison nodded. She really did want to make everyone feel comfortable. "Really. We can go now if you guys would like."
Scarlet pondered on the thought for a minute. Her eyes was closed, her breathing ragged. Dr. Harrison was becoming worried, she never seen Venus or the rest of her system communicate within each other. After a few minutes, They opened their eyes and smiled.
"Everyone is happy about it. Venus is still out of it but once she's alright to come out, she's willing to go. " They said.
"Just so I'm sure, am I still speaking with Scarlet?" Dr. Harrison asked. She looked up and they nodded.
"Yes, it's still me. I like to communicate with everyone when it comes down to things like this. We want everyone to be involved and happy. Especially the little ones, they mean a lot to us. We try to treat them to things they like."
Dr. Harrison nodded, "That seems fair and sweet. Especially since you all together are different people in one persons mind."
Scarlet nodded, then they sighed. It was going to be a long day, that they knew but they was scared what people would think of them. They closed their eyes, hoping to calm the body. They smiled when they heard Venus communicating back to them.
"I'm going to stay inside for awhile, that took a lot out of me. Mind staying out for a little while longer?" Venus asked.
"I'll stay out as long as you need me too."
