CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT – THE ONE THEY SEEK

As soon as those words came out of her mouth, Mikhael and Jeffrey gasp at what the crimson-haired woman stated.

Ryan could only keep silent as he didn't want to expose himself, but in his thought, he also couldn't believe what he just heard coming from Scarlette.

"A-axis Soul Contract? What is that?"

The chestnut-haired man asked Scarlette as he pretend not to know about the dangerous spell that the crimson-haired woman just stated.

Scarlette couldn't help but feel amused by the level of shamelessness of this guy as he keeps on pretending not to know anything.

'Can't you just drop the act, Ryan? Or maybe, just shut the hell up and that might be helpful!'

She thought as she scolded the chestnut-haired man mentally, but she didn't look at him as if she didn't hear what he said.

'Seriously, man? What would be your reaction if Scarlette told you she knew everything from the start?'

Jeffrey thought as he heard Ryan's question from earlier and only shook off his head as he went back to looking at the struggling old servant that is caught in the threads.

'How come that Scarlette knew about the Axis Soul Contract?'

The auburn-haired man thought as well, and he looked at the crimson-haired woman with a conflicted feeling.

Axis Soul Contract…

A dark forbidden magic spell that controls someone else's soul and became their captive prisoner against their will.

It's one of the slave spells that came from the Demons back in the Dark Abyss War 2000 years ago.

There are two functions of this spell; To be controlled or to be destroyed.

To be controlled, meaning to become their puppet, since they have captured your inner soul and it reduced you to become a tool only for obeying commands.

To be destroyed, meaning that the puppet can self-destruct themselves if anything happens and even if it's against their will, they have no choice but to do so.

Since Scarlette stated Edimir is planning to kill himself using the Axis Soul Contract, but the light threads are getting in that make Jeffrey confused about it.

'Axis Soul Contract is a dangerous dark spell and as far as I know, it wouldn't nullify that easily unless…'

={Hibernation!}=

Jeffrey's thoughts cut off as she heard the crimson-haired woman cast an enchantment and he looked over at Edimir, who fall into a slumber that makes him stop from struggling.

Scarlette snapped her fingers once more and the light threads move once again and it covers Edimir like a cocoon so that he won't escape.

After that, Scarlette looked over at the other three gentlemen inside the room, and then she landed her eyes on Mikhael as she speaks.

"We need another room,"

"J-just what the heck happen here?!"

Ryan exclaims as he looked around at the guest room that looks like a wasteland because of the mess inside.

'Feels like someone just run havoc and just destroyed everything inside.'

He thought as he could see the destroyed furniture and walls that have a crack that leaves shreds of evidence that someone had a battle going on here.

Before Scarlette leave this place, she placed an enchantment barrier within this room so that no servants inside the Manor could enter here in the meantime.

"I'll pay for the compensation"

Scarlette said as she looked at Mikhael and the citrus-haired boy just wave his hand as he sighed.

"No, it's all right. I'll get this cover-up, and it seems like you want to discuss something about it"

Mikhael felt exhausted for today's event as he just slouch on the ground since the chairs were now destroyed so he didn't care for now about his appearance.

"What is 'that thing' in the letter that the Prince of Dark Puppetry stated? Do you have any idea, Yvan?"

Scarlette asked the citrus-haired boy in a firm tone. And it means that the crimson-haired woman demands an answer right now.

Mikhael didn't know where to start but he looked over at Jeffrey and Ryan as he felt hesitation to speak about 'that thing' right in front of these people.

He can trust Scarlette and even though he didn't meet her that often, he knew that the crimson-haired woman is not that talkative.

Besides, she is a commoner without greed for money and power.

'I even heard from father before that His Majesty the Emperor would like to grant her a noble title, but she politely declined the offer.'

Mikhael couldn't believe it at first because who wouldn't want status and wealth?

He had met different people because of his status as a noble, and he knew how human nature works with money and power.

But, out of all the people he met, Scarlette was the only person he knew that didn't possess any greed for these kinds of things.

Mikhael shook off his head as he set aside those trivial thoughts that are swirling inside his head as he focus on the matters right in front of them.

Scarlette knew what kind of expression that Mikhael was showing and she looked at her two companions as she speaks.

"Go outside. Both of you"

Scarlette went back to her usual speech and Ryan grunt himself because of that.

'Not again, woman!'

He thought as he crossed his arms around his chest because he didn't understand why they need to go out first.

Jeffrey heard this, and he was about to say something when he heard the familiar voice coming through his mind.

={I think the Viscount Everette household had something to do with the mission about the Fordel Village. I'll explain things to you later and take Ryan away from here as well. I need to discuss something with Mikhael alone}=

Jeffrey heard this and since it's related to the mission, he let the crimson-haired woman handled it from here.

"Ryan, we need to wait outside"

Jeffrey said as he walked out from the guest room and Ryan wants to refute back but the auburn-haired man only glared back at him.

Since he disguised himself as a commoner, he could only swallow his anger and only stomp his feet and followed him.

When the two of them left, only Scarlette and Mikhael are the ones inside the guest (destructive) room. The crimson-haired woman snapped her fingers again.

After that, a light golden magic circle appeared beneath them and a visible barrier spread around them so that no one could see or hear whatever they were discussing from the outside.

Mikhael felt the power from this barrier that Scarlette cast on it and based on his observation, this spell could be on a top-tier spell.

'Is this her actual power or just a portion of it? It feels powerful the way I feel it.'

He thought as he looked around the barrier within them.

"Now that we are the only ones around and no one could hear us, my question from earlier. Don't make me repeat"

Mikhael snapped in his dazed as he faced the crimson-haired woman as she spoke again.

The citrus-haired boy contemplating how he should start talking but as he think further, he didn't know what to do.

'They said that it would be better to show it rather than explaining it with words,'

He thought as he took a deep breath and placed both hands on his chest as he closed his eyes.

Scarlette saw this, and she raised an eyebrow as she didn't know what the citrus-haired boy is trying to do.

Moments later, a flash of green light appeared at the center of the boy's chest and Scarlette felt her body shaken as if reacting to the strange light.

'W-what is this?! I-it feels familiar but I don't know why…'

She thought as her breathing became heavy that she didn't understand.

Moments later, Mikhael opened his eyes as he retract his hands from his chest and Scarlette saw that his once grey eyes became forest lime green.

Mikhael opened his palms and presented them in front of the crimson-haired woman.

A strange lime green stone with a strange symbol at the center of it that came out from his chest makes Scarlette looked at the citrus-haired boy with wide eyes.

"T-this…"

"They are seeking for this. This is what that so-called Prince of Dark Puppetry wants from the Viscount Everette family"
