6 Her Unknown Background

CHAPTER SIX – HER UNKNOWN BACKGROUND

Kira halts from her steps and she immediately removes her arms on his shoulder as she looked at Ryan with amusing eyes.

Ryan saw this and why does he felt like he said something wrong.

'What's with her sparkling eyes looking at?' Ryan thought as he looked at Kira.

A minute had passed and Kira began to speak; "If you want to learn more about Scarlette then, I'll tell you what I know. But before that, we should grab something to eat since it would be dawn in any minute and we haven't eaten yet"

Kira said and now that Ryan thinks about it.

Both of them haven't eaten anything since they are both busy buying supplies. 

In reality, it's Ryan who is busy buying everything that he needs for the travel while Kira only assists him.

Ryan held his stomach as he felt the incoming hunger strikes him.

"Y-yeah, I guess you are right. I'm sorry" Ryan apologize as he said and he felt guilty.

Kira only pats his shoulder to cheer him up; "No need to say sorry and I know how nervous you are but take it easy, bro! Come on and let's grab something to eat!"

Kira said and she once again put her arms around the man and Ryan chuckled at her as both of them make their way in the streets to find someplace to eat.

"So, would you start telling me about her?"

Ryan asked Kira after they found a tavern and ordered some food and drinks.

As they waited for their orders to be served, Ryan started the conversation.

Kira leans over at her chair with crossed arms as she put her fingers on her chin, thinking where she should start.

After that, she looked into Ryan's eyes as she speaks; "I don't know where to start. How should I put this? Hmmm…Well for starters, Scarlette Overland's reputation is far exceeded among us adventurers here in Silveria Empire and I think you know that already, right?"

Kira started the conversation and Ryan nodded to acknowledge the woman's statement as Kira continued.

"There are some stories about her on how she started her life as an adventurer. More like several years ago or something, I don't remember exactly and I only learned about this from the other adventurers. She started from nothing and only the clothes that she had when she came here"

Kira paused for a minute when the foods and drinks that they have ordered are now being served at their table.

She takes a bite since she is starving as hell and so Ryan does.

Both of them took a bite to relieve their hunger as Kira continued while eating.

"Scarlette Overland's origin is unknown to all of us. I heard that when she started as a lower rank adventurer, she prefers to do jobs alone which is breach the rules of the Adventurer's Guild policy. But don't you know what's even more surprising?"

Kira paused as she said and Ryan looked at her as he speaks; "What?"

"The Guildmaster approves Scarlette for doing the missions alone. That's why these rules don't apply to her"

After she finished her statement, Kira drinks up all of the beer in the mug and she shouted for another one and an attendant went over to refill her mug.

Ryan analyzes Kira's information about Scarlette and he placed a finger under his chin to think as he speaks.

"Her origin is unknown and you don't have any clue about it. When she starts as a lower rank adventurer, she does jobs alone that breach the rules of the guild's policy, and then you are saying that the Guildmaster even approved it?"

Ryan raised an eyebrow as he questioned her and Kira nodded as the woman take another bite as she speaks once again.

"It became a huge commotion among all adventurers that time and most of them became hostile to her because the Guildmaster is giving her special treatment. Her skills are unknown and it seems that only the Guildmaster knows about it"

Kira said as she drinks up her beer once again and she called the attendant to refill it again.

'That might be the reason why Scarlette preferred to be alone during missions as she didn't trust anyone but then, why did she pick me up?'

Ryan thought as he drinks his beer as well and looked around as he saw many people who are either chatting with their friends or some are alone, drinking.

The woman takes a deep breath as she continued.

"Those are the things that I have learned from other people because I haven't witnessed it as I only became an adventurer five years ago and I was only 15 years old back then and that time, Scarlette is already an SSS-rank adventurer"

As she finished her statement, Ryan didn't interrupt her and only listens to the information that Kira is providing about Scarlette's life.

'Kira started as an adventurer five years ago and she was 15 back then. At that time, Scarlette is already an SSS-rank? Then it means…she became SSS-rank when she is much younger?! Then how old is she right now?'

Ryan had many questions in his mind but he shook off his head as there would be another time to learn about it.

Now that he knows a little bit of information about Scarlette so when he met the woman by tomorrow morning, he would try his best to be her best companion since this is the first time that the woman takes someone with her.

Kira looked at Ryan as she smiled and said; "I don't know what Scarlette saw you and she takes you but grabs this opportunity to get to know her personally since this is only a once in a lifetime that would come by!"

Kira cheered him up and Ryan felt grateful to the woman who accompanied him throughout this whole afternoon and for providing him a piece of information about Scarlette.

"Don't you know that she is also recognized by the nobles and royal family of the whole Empire? The only reason is, in this Empire or even in the whole continent, she is the only SSS-rank adventurer and she is far stronger than the Captain of the Falcon Knights of this Empire"

Kira said out of the blue that makes Ryan choked himself on his drinks and coughed hardly as he can.

When he felt better, he looked at the woman if she is being serious and said; "W-what?! I thought that is only a rumor?!"

Ryan exclaims and Kira shook off her head as she continued.

"Those are not just rumors but it's a fact because I have heard it from other clients that I have worked with. Most of them are praising Scarlette Overland's vast reputation and her skills as well that they only heard from other adventurers that have worked with Scarlette before"

Kira said as she explained and Ryan looked at her as he raised an eyebrow and said; "I thought she never worked with the other adventurers?"

He asked the woman because he already knew this information that Scarlette never accepts any party invitation but what is Kira talking about right now? Is she drunk?

"Yes. It's true that Scarlette never accepts a party invitation and prefers to work alone but that is not the case in subjugation missions"

Kira said and Ryan looked at her as he heard something familiar yet unfamiliar to him as he said; "Subjugation missions?"

Ryan asked her and Kira took a bite first before continuing.

"In Adventurer's Guild, there are missions that are posted on the mission board and those requests are from the clients that wants to hire someone to do a task for them and anyone can do that, be a party or a solo. You know that, right?"

Kira explained and Ryan nodded as he understands that. 

Kira continued; "However, that is not the case in subjugation missions because these missions are issued by the guild and the rules here are strict needs cooperation"

Ryan thought of something and it seems that he grasps something but wants to confirm; "Then, this means that‒"

He didn't continue his words when Kira nodded at him as she speaks; "Meaning, whether you are a solo or not, you need to abide by the rules of the subjugation mission and Scarlette is not an exemption to this one"
