45 A Reminder From the Past

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE – A REMINDER FROM THE PAST

=FLASHBACK 2 YEARS AGO=

It's been a month since the incident that happen to the young Mikhael were an unexpected attack from an S-rank beast that is roaming outside the Freycrest Capital city.

It had spread the incident on what happens around the Empire, especially at the Academy where Mikhael is attending.

'Hey! Have you guys heard the news?'

'Are you talking about the incident that happens to Mikhael Yvan Everette?'

'Yes, that one! I can't imagine that he got that kind of encounter with an S-rank beast along the way!'

'How come that there is an S-rank beast outside of Freycrest Capital city suddenly?'

'Now that I think about it, I heard from my father that it's still under investigation and the one who's in charge is none other than Marquis Middleton.'

Whispers and gossips from the students in the hallway as they keep on discussing the recent incident that happens to one of their fellow schoolmates.

The 16-year-old Mikhael heard those gossips that spread around like wildfire as he just ignored them as he proceed to his class.

As he was about to go to his class, the citrus-haired boy saw a familiar figure that is walking in his direction.

When that person stopped in front of Mikhael, the person bows down as a sign of courtesy or greeting from a servant to its master.

"Young Master Mikhael, your father Viscount Everette, would like to meet with you now. The carriage is already here to pick you up,"

Mikhael frown as he looked at the servant in front of him as he speaks.

"What does my father wants this time, Theo? And also, how about my class?"

Mikhael asked the other person with a baffled expression.

The servant, Theo, looked at the young master as he speaks.

"You will know when you get there and also, this servant had already informed the teachers about your sudden departure for today, so the Young Master should not worry about it for now,"

Theo politely explained, and since it was already handled properly, he walked over in the other direction, and Theo followed behind his master as they left the school building.

Mikhael saw the carriage at the entrance of the Academy and he didn't bother to look at the other student's gaze at him as he didn't care about it at all.

He doesn't have many friends in the Academy and only a few noble children that he could consider acquainted to him but not that close enough to be called friends.

When he got inside the carriage, and followed by Theo, his servant, as they have left the Academy.

The citrus-haired boy wondered why his father suddenly summoned him back to the middle of his schooldays.

He didn't dwell on the thoughts that were swirling inside his mind as he closed his eyes and take a rest as he waited to arrive at their estate here in Freycrest Capital city.

….

"Young Master, we are here"

Mikhael jolted awake in his seat as he heard Theo called him out and he opened his eyes to look outside of the carriage.

He stretch his body as he felt like all of his muscles had gone numb because of the uncomfortable sleeping position.

Mikhael went down on the carriage and he saw his father's trusted aide and Theo's father, Edimir.

"Young Master, welcome"

The old servant greeted Mikhael, and the citrus-haired boy looked over at him.

"Where is my father? Do you have any idea why he summoned me here, and he needs to call someone to fetch me at the Academy?"

The citrus-haired boy asked a couple of questions at once and the old servant only smiles at him as he speaks.

"This old servant has an idea but it would be better if Young Master were to see it for himself"

Edimir stated and Mikhael only frown as he looked back at the old servant with a bored expression and he sighed as he didn't waste any time as he proceeded inside the Manor.

The servants inside the manor greeted Mikhael as the citrus-haired boy only nodded at them to acknowledge their presence and he followed Edimir to where his father right now.

Moments later, they have arrived at the front door of the guest room, and Mikhael frown as he looked back at Edimir.

"Do we have a guest?" He asked.

"Certainly, Young Master. It would be better if you meet this person as well"

The old servant said, and the citrus-haired boy had a puzzled expression plastered on his face.

'Why do I need to be here, anyway? Who is this guest that my father ordered someone to pick me up at the Academy?'

He shook off his head to set aside those thoughts and composed himself as he pushes through the door to open and walked inside.

"Glad you are here, Mikhael! We have a guest and I know you might recognize this person!"

Mikhael looked over at his father, who stood up from his seat and walked over in his direction to hug him.

"Hello, Father. We have only met each other last two weeks, if I remember correctly"

Mikhael said as he embrace his father and smiled. Mikhael pulled himself out from his father's embrace as he spoke.

"Father, may I ask what is the reason you ordered Theo to pick me up at the Academy?"

He asked and his father only smiled at him as Viscount Everette looked back and led his son to their guest for today.

Mikhael noticed another person inside the guest room and that person is leaning against the wall with crossed arms around its chest.

The citrus-haired boy frowns upon observing this mysterious guest, but as he looked further, he couldn't help but to feel overwhelmed by its aura.

'I might be a mage and my magic affinity is not that strong nor weak but this mysterious person, I could feel its tremendous aura that hides within.'

He thought and his father called out to that person.

However, Mikhael froze in his place when the citrus-haired boy heard the name from his father's mouth.

"Lady Overland! This is my fourth son, Mikhael! I believe you might recognize him since you have saved my son, a month ago!"

His father, Viscount Everette, happily said as he usher his son to move forward and Mikhael snapped in his daze as he let his father guide him at their unexpected guest.

'L-lady O-overland?! Scarlette Overland?!'

He thought as his mind went blank for a second and snapped once again as they stopped in front of her.

Mikhael saw that Scarlette de-attach herself from the walls and stood straight as she pulled off her hood to look back at them.

Grey eyes meet crimson-lilac eyes…

The crimson-haired woman only looked at Mikhael for a second before she looked away and faced his father as she speaks.

"This person is no Lady, Viscount Everette. This person is only a humble commoner and an adventurer"

Mikhael heard what the crimson-haired woman stated, and her voice is cold, yet gentle to hear.

'Seems like the rumors about her being cold and indifferent are true. However, her speech and the way she presented herself is like a noble lady would do.'

He thought as he observed the crimson-haired woman in front of him.

"You might be a commoner but for us nobles, you are qualified to be addressed as Lady because of your vast reputation as the only SSS-rank adventurer within the Miris Continent"

Mikhael looked at his father as he said those words and he saw that Scarlette only nodded as if to acknowledge what his father stated.

The citrus-haired boy saw Scarlette looked over at him and he blushed as he remembered that incident that happen to him a month ago where he was saved by this woman.

"Scarlette Overland. How are you, Young Master Mikhael?"

Mikhael knew that the crimson-haired woman is talking to him and she introduce herself as a basic courtesy.

"I am Mikhael Yvan Everette, 16 years old. Fourth son of Viscount Everette of Merken Territory. No need to address me as Young Master and you can call me by my name since you are my savior"

He introduced himself, and Scarlette only nodded at him.

"Pleasure to meet you, Yvan"

Scarlette said, and Mikhael only smiled back at her.

'Second name basis? I heard she called Marquis Middleton by his second name as well. Those two are friends, right? Or something else? Why am I thinking about those things?'

He thought as he shook off his head to let go of those trivial thoughts that are swirling inside his head.

The three of them have a nice tea time with one another, but only Viscount Everette is the one who does the talking and Scarlette only listens to him and nodded sometimes.

The Viscount didn't mind that the crimson-haired woman didn't talk that much as everyone who knew about her that talking was not her forte.

Mikhael didn't join the conversation and only speak when his father asked about his studies and there is a proud smile that is plastered on his father's face.

Hours had passed and it would be dawn in any minute and Scarlette stood up from her seat as she speaks.

"I should get going"

She said and Viscount Everette only nodded as he called Edimir, his aide, to guide their guest.

Before she could get out, she stopped in her tracks as she looked back at the father-son duo as she speaks.

"It takes time to catch a snake that is lurking within your surroundings and, if not handled properly, there would be an only disaster that awaits. Please note that"
