1 CHAPTER 1: JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT

SHANA

At the age of 25, I am contented with my life as a single human being. I am the silent type of person never goes to a club or a party if not necessary.

I dress simple that will not attract people and I am not the only one in that premises. Wearing the same colors in the company. Dark color to be exact. Black, navy blue, dark gray so on and so forth.

I wear my office attire every day with the same thing. Pencil skirt type (any dark colors), inner light color plain blouse and blazer same color of my skirts. I also wear pants like square pants, slacks but not skinny in the office. My shoes... just two inches will do for me since I am already taller. But sometimes, I prefer flat shoes if it's not in the office.

My usual hair in a bun style and eyeglasses, it is not what you imagine. Eyeglasses with a thick and circle frame I am wearing. No, it is a just eyeglass that fits for me, for my face shape. I am not old woman fashion style if that is what you were thinking. I still blend with the latest trending. It's just that my own choice why I am what I am today. I have my own reason.

I have my own condominium that my parents bought me. When I decided to live in NY for work. Instead of going back to my hometown handling our own business.

I do not know if I want to handle our companies that our parents own. But for now, I want to have my own earnings. I know my dad does not like me working to the other company but I want to be separate me from them.

I know my parents' companies will hand over to my brother Zed because I can see he is the best one to manage it perfectly. He may be just a year younger than I am and much responsible to all of us. He seems like older brother to all of us.

We even listen and follow his decisions. Most of the time that is actually best for us even when we were kids. We can always count on him in every way. His point of view is always the bullseye. In other words, we look up to him. Jealousy and ranking will never be issues in us. That's not what my parents taught us.

Even though, I miss my family, my parents, my siblings and everybody in the family tree. That's what we are in the family very close to one another.

However, I want to have a life experience that I can say I am good at. And not that, it is because I am the daughter of blah, blah, blah.

Pursuing my goals does not mean I want to forget where I came from. I still owe my achievements to my family especially to my parents. I am not where I am now if it's not for them. Their support is still my way of striving hard every day. I am enjoying every single day of it.

I have been working as a Junior Accountant, one of the best shipping magnates in the country. This is my first job after I graduated from college. A degree with Business related but took some accounting course in college for extra references.

My line of duty in the company was monthly payroll and I have assistants in my department with me. I have my own office separate from them. My work keeps me out of the public relations that I like the most.

My assistants were all trust worthy people that I can easily get along for three years. I keep my personal profile low because I am very private person. I do not like to be in the highlight of my career.

For three years working in the said company, I am always invisible to all. I have few people know me but all cannot see me more often. I do not go either in the cafeteria to eat. I bring my own foods or eat outside with some people in my department.

Mostly, I prefer eating in my desk and relax a bit. I have couch in the office I can take a nap if I am tired. Being a Junior Accountant was not that easy. You manage to handle the whole employee's salary the entire company. Most of my working days, I always be the last one to go home late around nine in the evening. My colleagues were mostly up until 7pm.

How many are they do you think working in the shipping business? Yes, it is not just hundreds of employees but more than that.

We all have assigns different categories. It is not that easy as numbers. It gives you headaches most. To her team, it is a little bit hard but it can carry on. Employee's daily wages and bonuses.

Luckily, I was accepted in this company. Of all the applicants with more experiences than me. It was really my good fortune.

"Come in." A knock, knock from my office door as I stop with what I was doing. It was one of my assistants, Beth enters my office.

"Ms. Shana, I would like to ask for a leave." Beth is one of trusted persons in my team from the beginning.

"Huh! Is everything alright?" I asked worriedly.

"Yes, yes, everything's fine. It's just that I needed to attend for a parents meeting." She explained. "My husband is currently out of town. So, it should be me to be there." I nodded.

I signed the paper for her one day leave with pay. "Okay, it's just a day you are not here." Beth smiled.

"Yeah! It is not easy to balance your work and home especially when you have kids." Beth laughed. Well, I admired her as a person. She really keeps it balance her time between work and home. Her husband too, they are really a team. That's what Shana wants if she has her own family.
