20 Surprise

“Are you sure?” His mother asked, her eyes shiny. “You know I don’t care about you being gay. You could stay here. There are lots of boys I can…”

“Mom…mom…” Simon chuckled as he reached for her hands. “I already met someone. And I promised him I’d come back.”

“But, isn’t it too soon?” His mother squeezed his hand. “I mean, you just escaped one relationship. A bad one at that.”

Simon sighed. He had thought about it; had even talked about it with Dr. Shaw. He still had moments when he felt less than happy. Not sad exactly; just low. He still blamed himself for staying with Jon for so long because, he couldn’t even imagine going through that again.

He also missed Zeke.

Like a lot.

Sometimes late at night, he’d recall the nights he and Zeke would make out on the couch or the times Zeke would hold him till he fell asleep.

And even if nothing came out of their friendship/relationship, he’d be OK. Zeke was the best friend he’d ever had
