5 CHAPTER 4

DECEMBER 29, 1896 – 3:20 PM

"So this is what happened with the youths" Rizal questions. 

"Yes, it truly." Liam said. The room is only lightened with one lamp. Marisaa feels so grateful with their safety after the Escape, but she also feels terrified with Tony's Behavior as they arrive safely earlier. He requested to go out for a minute to buy some bread. Luckily Liam allows him to.

"And saving me from execution is your answer for the youths" rizal question 

"definitely, if we are able to change the past we are able to change your future and surely is our present" Liam said 

"Have you tried this before?"

"Not yet. This is the first trial but. . ." he was interrupted by Rizal and as he surprisingly stood from his chair the and the room went silent. But as the time portal was covered by a huge curtain making it impossible to spot it, it gave no light for the room. "You're risking your lives!" Rizal shouted with anger and the door cracked open revealing almost a dozen guardia sibil.

They were shocked by the scene as the guards entered the room and started grabbing Tiyo Jose, Liam, Marissa, and Rizal by the arm. Liam was confused until Tony emerged with the guards. He immediately concluded that Tony told the guards about their location. 

"What are you doing? Tony" Liam ask

 "Saving you from your mission." Tony said with the spark of fear.

"I thought this is our plan brother. "

"No, this is only your plan."

"You're a traitor, Tony" Marissa shouted. 

"I'm no traitor if I only knew what would make my brother safe." 

All of a sudden Tiyo Jose fights the guard that is holding him. He strikes the guard in the face with his elbow and tries to escape. Unfortunately a young guard accidentally shoots him in the heart with a revolver. Marissa was outraged by this so she fights her way out of the guard's hands. She runs to his Godfather and kneels. Liam throws his mini portal at Marissa and Tiyo Jose. The portal closes as Marissa and Tiyo jose lay sadly on an unknown river.

"Tiyo Jose, Please stay" Marissa said as she burst into tears "I'll get you to the hospital"

"There's no need for that, darling. I'll be fine" Tiyo Jose said as he ached from the pain.

"But you just got shot. How am I going to say this to your family?"

"They already knew what would happen," he said, watching Marissa with tears coming down her cheeks. "Marissa, can you do me a favor?"

"Yes, sure. Everything you wanted, Tiyo Jose. Everything"

"Go back to the basement. Make sure that no one will see you. Did you know my favorite book in my bookshelf?" Marissa nods as she grips harder with Tiyo Jose's hand. "Get the letter stuck on Chapter 3. Handed it to my wife and tell her that 'the time has come'"

"Yes, yes. I'll do it, don't worry" Marissa said as her face began to red as she felt Tiyo Jose was losing his grip.

"Life is fleeting, Marissa. Fleeting" Tiyo Jose said as he closed his eyes and lost Marissa's hand.

Liam sat sadly on a cold brick floor in midnight thinking nothing but a failure to himself. A lamp emerges and he sees the only light on his life.

"Hey, let's get out of here" Marissa whispers behind the bars and smiles. Liam walks to Marissa and whispers.

"You don't have to."

"I want to," she says as she unlocks the prison door. "come with me" she grabs Liam's hand.

"Wait. Aren't we going to save Rizal?" Liam asks which annoyed Marissa. She realized that Rizal will no longer come with them because of what happened.

"Liam, I don't want to fight with you but we can't"

"Marissa, we can. I thought you wanted Rizal to be saved?"

"Yes, I want to but his the one who will disagrees with you"

"You're not far from my brother," Liam said and walked away. Marissa follows him and avoids talking so no one can hear them. As they arrived in Rizal's prison cell, he is writing something from his table and doesn't want to be disturbed. Liam calls for him silently and catches  his attention. Rizal approaches them and ask

"What are you doing?" 

"I'm sure this will go well, trust me" Liam said 

"Enough young child. I don't want anyone to die because of me" Risal said as Liam felt speechless and Marissa put a hand on his shoulder as he tried to calm him. "Thank you for both of you. You've done enough" He smiles at Marissa as they both realize his death tomorrow. They leave Rizal all with a smile plastered on his face. Marissa threw a time portal and they went to the other side.  

Liam and Marisaa stared blankly to the fire they made earlier while sitting in a cold dawn of December 30. They could feel the morning Sorrows as their eyes covered with their total silence.

"I buried him here." Marissa said while staring at the soil which obviously just got from digging. Liam didn't respond awhile but he came to change the topic.

"And also went to visit his family and tell the news." Marissa continued.

"What is your plan Marissa? I mean after all of these" Liam ask

"I will move to espanya next year and continue my studies there." She said while settling Liam's questions. 

"How about you? What is your plan" Marissa ask and it takes Liam about a while to reply

"I plan to let you go Marissa."

"What? What are you talking about?"

"I'm letting you go because you shouldn't be here." 

"What do you mean? I choose this life."

"No, you have to go. You've done enough."

"How about you? What will you do?"

"I don't know"

"I can help you. Don't worry. . ."

"Can you stop! You did nothing in this mission! I thought you're going to convince him quickly but I'm the one who did. You're worthless!"

"How dare you!" She said but Liam didn't respond and avoided her glances. Marissa stood and went to her horse. She mounted it and said "can't believe I've fallen in love with a man like you" she said hesitantly from crying. She rides away as the sun rises and her tears fall down like a river. Liam feels anger by letting go the first woman he'd ever loved and he bursts into tears without knowing he's hurting himself. He felt it was the only way to avoid Marissa from getting killed.
