14 Delphine LaLaurie

Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie (née McCarty) was a high-society Creole socialite in New Orleans during the 1830s. Her fondness for throwing elegant parties is only rivaled by her fondness for torturing her black slaves.

Delphine created a nightmarish beauty balm derived from fresh human pancreases that she removed from her slaves, driven by her insecurities and catalyzed by her husband's indiscretions with young women, including their own slaves. Marie Laveau, the New Orleans Voodoo Queen, exacted vengeance on Madame Delphine for torturing her lover, one of Delphine's slave victims, Bastien, whom the socialite had tortured and dressed up as the Minotaur, one of her favorite characters from Greek mythology. She gave Madame Delphine a forgery of a love potion, the true effects of which are far more sinister. LaLaurie's fate was revealed to be worse than death, and it had not yet come to an end.

Delphine awoke from the 'love potion' to find her husband and daughters hanging from her home's balcony. Delphine was buried alive in an unmarked grave in the front yard by Marie Laveau, but not before revealing that the 'love potion' had actually cursed Delphine with immortality.

She had dark brown hair and green eyes, and she used to wear elegant gowns in the 1800s, but she now wore a maid's outfit. She was also quite overweight, but she hypocritically often chastised other women for being so. Madame Delphine LaLaurie was a proper lady in Cajun high society in the 1830s Louisiana.

However, it soon became clear that she had a much darker, heinous side. She was obsessed with her appearance, smearing herself in the blood of her slaves in a superstitious attempt to stay young. She had a quick wit and a sadistic streak. LaLaurie kept many of her slaves in her attic, where they were inevitably subjected to grotesque experimentation and torture for Madame LaLaurie's amusement.

Losing her family and being buried for centuries had sapped LaLaurie's will to live, as evidenced by her request to Fiona Goode to use her powers to end her torture and allow her to die. She has proven to be obstinate on several occasions. She has also demonstrated a strong interest in human anatomy and how it works at the expense of her slaves. LaLaurie regards this as a hobby for her.

LaLaurie was conceited and narcissistic, obsessing over her appearance, much like Fiona, and believing herself to be a genius and visionary while dismissing those around her, including her own daughters. Delphine was a control freak who would become enraged if her will was ever disobeyed, but she was also a complete coward, fleeing, hiding, or begging for mercy if she was ever threatened with death or pain. Despite her abusive treatment of her daughters, LaLaurie adored them, which was probably her only redeeming quality.

LaLaurie, who was deeply sadistic, tortured black slaves on a regular basis because she saw them as worthless and no better than animals. Even by the standards of the time, she was extremely racist, and her barbaric treatment of her black slaves violated the Code Noir, which was itself extremely cruel. LaLaurie, on the other hand, was not a complete monster.

She felt remorse for some of her heinous crimes, such as murdering and exsanguinating the baby her husband had with a female slave and using the baby's blood as make-up, driving the deceased infant's mother to suicide in the process. She grew to care deeply for Queenie and to feel guilt for her crimes, as well as to respect black people as human beings. When Queenie betrayed Marie Laveau, her racist views returned.

She appeared to be a devout Christian who saw Barack Obama's election as President of the United States as a sign that God had abandoned the land, owing to the color of his skin rather than his policies. She maintained a perverse kind of empathy for black people after her racist views returned, saying she pitied them for being fed the lie that they could be equal to whites.

LaLaurie was intelligent, with knowledge of human anatomy and an interest in science, which she perverted for evil purposes. Another indication of her intelligence was that she was a skilled cook, despite the fact that she usually relied on her servants to prepare food for her when she was alive. She had a voracious appetite and developed a taste for fast food during her time in the modern era.

Delphine was discovered and dug up years after her burial by Fiona Goode, who wanted to discover the secret of eternal life. Fiona made fun of her, despite the fact that the two women appeared to bond at times. She intended to use Delphine as a bargaining chip against Marie Laveau, first keeping her hidden away and tied up in her room, and later transforming her into the school's new maid.

Nan rushed up the stairs, enraged, because Delphine was making too much (mental) noise, and discovered Delphine in Fiona's room. She attempted to untie herself but was apprehended by Queenie. Delphine runs away after smashing Queenie's head with a candlestick holder. Delphine and Queenie eventually formed a small bond after Fiona forced her to become Queenie's personal maid because she 'hated racists.' When the Minotaur came after Delphine, Queenie sacrificed herself, luring it out to give Delphine time to flee. Delphine was grateful for this and thanked Queenie, who still disliked Delphine because of her racist behavior.

Delphine's severed head and hand were reattached, and Queenie carried her to Nan's funeral with a leash and collar around her neck. She saw an African-American gardener cut his hand at the academy and was reminded of the pleasure she felt from torturing her slaves in the 1800s. She held him captive in Spalding's old room, cutting off the gardener's toes and disemboweling him with a pruning shear. Spalding appeared in front of her and told her that he knew of a potion that would remove Marie's immortality and allow Delphine to murder her, but he would only give it to her if she brought back an ancient doll baby that he desired.

Spalding handed over the potion (which was nothing more than Benadryl®). Delphine drugged Marie's drink, then stabbed her in the chest when she fell asleep on the bed. Marie was unfazed and pursued Delphine, but she was knocked out by Spalding. Spalding stated that all he wanted was Marie out of his hair and suggested that Delphine bury her. Instead, she tortured and hacked Marie to shreds.

Delphine then took a job as a tour guide at her old house in an attempt to reinvent herself, but she was confronted by Queenie, who tried to persuade her to see sense and repent for her sins. Despite Delphine's immortality, her attempt failed and she stabbed her to death. This was explained simply: because Delphine had cut the Voodoo Queen into pieces scattered throughout New Orleans, the latter could no longer guarantee annual services to Papa Legba. Papa Legba revoked the immortality granted to both of them after Queenie pointed out to the Gatekeeper that Marie had broken their agreement.

Delphine was later seen being locked away with her daughters in her torture chamber. When Papa Legba arrived, he revealed that she and Marie Laveau had been transported to Hell, where they would spend eternity. Delphine cringed as Marie was forced to burn Borquita with a hot poker. It was possible that this was not the real Borquita, but rather an illusion created by Papa Legba, but it was also possible that this was the real Borquita, as innocent people, such as Misty Day, can be consigned to Hell.

Delphine was still begging for an exhausted Marie's mercy in Hell several years later, pleading with her to stop torturing her children. She recalled a time when she killed a child but kept his mother from witnessing it. Nan walked in and informed Marie that she was being released from Hell as a result of a deal Cordelia made with him: she would be replaced by Dinah Stevens. This event was later reversed by Mallory, who created a new timeline in which Cordelia never had to retrieve Marie.

In any case, Marie and Delphine reached an agreement. Delphine should assist Marie with her plan if she does not want to see her children tortured. Since she felt and knew Fiona had somehow survived her suicide attempt, she wanted someone to act as a spy - at least for the time being - to confirm everything she felt.

And so it came to pass. Delphine had no choice but to accept the offer. Delphine began her duties as a spy without further delay, using all of the magical powers that were left on Marie. She had a blurred vision of a huge stone castle, an old man with a long beard, and a clumsy and weakened man with incredibly altered facial features within a few hours, albeit with great difficulty.

She had no idea what this could possibly mean. But she didn't waste any time and dashed over to Marie to tell her everything she had seen. Marie smiled sardonically as soon as she heard everything the woman in front of her said. It didn't bother her that Delphine had no idea who she was. That was all she needed to know. In fact, she had no trouble explaining to her what her vision meant word for word. After all, he couldn't help himself. Delphine was the only person who could help her at the time.
