12 How to be a Ninja

On the outskirts of the village.

" So let me get this straight. Sensei made you take this kid, as a disciple medical-nin. He then turns out to be a Hyuga branch family member who mastered the seconds most famous jutsu, but since he was physically tortured by his own "mother", he may be insane and one day turn on the village?"

" Pretty much. Sarutobi Sensei was supposed to ask the Hyuga patriarch to remove his cursed seal to mend things between him and his clan, while I rehabilitate the kid. The second the kid used that jutsu though I knew he wouldn't ask anymore."

" Sensei can't allow someone like that to run around without some kind of safeguard Tsunade don't do something silly."

" What are you talking about?"

" You think I don't know you? You're probably thinking about using the Five Elements Unseal Sensei taught us on his cursed mark, but it won't work."

" I know it won't pervert. That's why I'm going to visit my parents. My Grandma or mother may have a way. I refuse to believe the Hyuga could create something like that without Uzumaki help."

"….That may actually work… Sensei won't be happy though, not to mention the danger to the kid. Be careful about this Tsunade."

As Jiraya finished speaking with a blur Ren appeared.

" Hello again aniki, hello wife!"

A punch immediately hit the side of Rens face.

Standing up with a look like someone kicked his puppy.

" What was that for!?"

" You disgusting little brat don't think I don't remember what was said on the roof!"

" Whats wrong with it!?"

" It's the art of perverts! That's no way to treat women Ren!"

"The old guy said that is the best way to see the woman of your dreams true beauty, that it is the art of gentlemen!"

"….." Jiraya and Tsunade are stunned.

Jiraya knows this is probably true, the old man asked for his transparent escape technique aka transparency jutsu and has that crystal ball, only an idiot wouldn't notice he's a pervert. Orochimaru figured it out when they first met apparently. Tsunade was the only one who doesn't know, but then he went and taught her disciple such things. Maybe he could also throw all his wrongdoings on his Sensei now….

" I swear wife had I known it to be the art of perverts I would never learn such things from that old scammer!"

Tsunade seems appeased but if Hiruzen could read her mind he might just flee the village.

" Why does the kid keep calling you wife? And how are you not punching him."

" He proposed the first day we met. Hasn't stopped calling me his wife since. At this point I just got tired of punching him every time he does it."

" Huh?"

" You haven't noticed yet? He took my half strength punch and doesn't have a scratch. Clearly I trained a great medical-nin and it's biting me in the ass."

" Hahaha [inner thought: Character Load for the win!] Your husband is great wife. Naturally his skills would be worthy of your beauty."

" I'd never marry a pervert. Anyways get serious we need to be setting off on the mission soon, and you need to learn a few things about being a ninja before we do."

" Ohh I can help with this Tsunade! You may be a great medical-nin but for standard missions he'll need to know a bit of my skills. Come here kid."

" Tch… go with him Ren."

Standing up and walking in to a clear area nearby.

" Now before we begin what ninjutsu do you know?"

" Chakra scalpel, Poison extraction, and Mystic palm."

" Kid those are all medical jutsu…please be serious."

" That's all I know though…. apart from flying thunder god and gentle fist, that's all I got."

" So in the year and a half you've been Tsunades disciple you've learnt zero basic jutsu!?" [Looking dumbfounded at Tsunade]

Tsunade looking embarrassed says:

"You know medical ninjutsu requires a lot of study Jiraya not to mention the kid went off and mastered flying thunder god when he was supposed to learn his Fuinjutsu. I would have taught him basic jutsu had he finished that on time and didn't do his own things."

" Right…"

Jiraya and Ren could only think: [She forgot, she definitely forgot]

" Well kid we'll just cover what you would learn in the academy.

The basic jutsu all ninja know are: clone jutsu, transformation jutsu, substitution jutsu, and the body flicker jutsu. These four jutsu are the basics required to pass the ninjutsu portion of the academy.

Traditionally you would also learn basic taijutsu and Fuinjutsu but your gentle fist is far better than what they teach at the academy and I'm sure you already know the enclosing and sealing technique.

Last but not least is genjutsu. This is the hardest class. What you learn in the academy is how to identify and escape genjutsu. Even the most talented kids tend to fail this one.

As long as you can pass two of these courses you will become a genin. Any questions?"

"How do I escape genjutsu without my activating my Byakugan?"

" Ahh yes you're a Hyuga. I forgot. Actually the Byakugan can help you escape all genjutsu without activating it, just emit your chakra from all your tenketsu to disrupt the genjutsu's flow and you should be able to undo most traditional genjutsu."

" Uhh that easy? Isn't that just how I use mystic palm on myself? Why didn't I notice that? [tried immediately]."

[Jiraya's thoughts: so that's how he healed from Tsunades punch.]

" Huh I thought I'd still have some on me."

" Don't be silly Ren I'm a medical-nin and your teacher. When I took care of your wounds I also took care of that. Continue Jiraya."

"Uh right… so lets start training you on the basic jutsu. With your level of chakra control it shouldn't take us too long."

So it went that I was trained on the basic jutsu and Jiraya even threw in his famous Transparency Jutsu. Tsunade also went over her enhanced strength technique. My ninja life had truly begun!

Jiraya wasn't wrong, with my chakra control it wasn't hard to pull off these jutsu. After two weeks I could use all of them without fail.

Apart from jutsu training I was educated on what type of missions ninja usually took.

Traditionally missions available to genin and chuunin would have little to no danger of running into enemy ninja. So the missions mainly occurred within the village and would be nothing more than errand running. Missions outside the village though tended to be Escort missions or Subjugation missions that would not involve enemy ninja.

Any mission not involving ninja had a maximum rank of C-rank. As soon as enemy ninja were involved it became B rank.

B rank and higher missions meant you were going to fight foreign ninja if you were not careful. These tended to be jounin only, Hokage issued missions. They more or less involved espionage, sabotage, or maybe even assassination that was in the village or countries interest.

Now if that sounds more like an adventurers guild of other isekai then you'd be right. It's really what it was. The real life version of what you'd expect ninja to do were usually done by mercenary ninjas and their actions were even considered illegal.

I was honestly a little confused, shouldn't ninja be less like the fighters guild and more like the dark brotherhood! Give me back my dreams!
