Bittersweet Revenge

"Alright everyone back, Great Eight Sheriff Gordias is coming through!", screamed the lesser, local sheriff.

"Medikus said in the same place I killed his daddy! Now where is the coward?!"

Medikus shot down out of the sky riding a bolt of lightning. The crowd shouted his name in astoundment. His eyes were like lightning itself and radiated even through noon's sunlight. He drew his sword and aimed it at Gordias.

"Today's the day I kill you!!!"

"So, you're a trigger now. I guess I better take you seriously!!!"

Gordias's hair created a thick, silver chain link type of armor around his body. His fingers were pointed like guns, with silver hairs coming out of the end. His hair and beard formed a sort of helmet to protect his head.

"Don't worry, I'll kill you slow, with only the help of my sword!"

"HA! You're insane kid!!!"

And with that, Gordias extended his hands forward, and rapidly fired his remaining hairs of silver. Medikus blocked every shot, slowly walking straight towards Gordias. Gordias increased his speed even further and changed his angles, but still Medikus approached unharmed.

"Damn you kid!!!"

Gordias lunged to punch Medikus. Medikus ducked and returned with a nasty uppercut.

"Duck! Right hook! Dodge to the right, left hook! Straight right! Dodge to the left! Right uppercut!"

The moves came to Medikus before he even started fighting. Gordias struggled to overcome Medikus's barrage, but he was just too fast for Gordias to keep up. He forced Gordias to his knees, overwhelming him easily.

"T-that's a hell of a right kid!"

"Now before I kill you, tell me how to find Ignious the Dark!"

"He's in the Lost Sands, not like you'll make it there alive though!"

"Dead scum shouldn't worry too much about the world of the living!"

And with one clean motion, Gordias's head went rolling. Medikus walked away slowly as the crowd began to chant his name. Medikus had freed the Western Sands. Medikus neither heard nor felt anything and made a beeline straight to Auxilium's bakery.

"Back already kid?"

"H-he killed Pearl. I'm so sorry. If I'd been awake, I could've got out of that damned temple soon enough to stop him!"

"No, I should be apologizing to you. Here I am telling you late because I thought it was too dangerous, and it sounds like you killed them all in your sleep! Haha, you really are Midaco's son!"

Medikus sat on the ground, hanging his head.

"Look kid, sometimes this is the life of a wrangler. You're going to lose people you care about; it just happens. Now what are you going to do about it, sit there and cry?! Or get out there and save the Desert Continent?!"

Medikus picked his head up and stood. He was a tall, dark man, with hands that suggested a life full of battles, but a face full of youthful hope.

"Thanks Aux. Before I leave town, I wanna do something."

"Anything kid!"

--

"Wow kid, you're just full of surprises."

Medikus stole back the heads of his parents and Pearl and buried them under the sand.

Right above them he craved boldly into the sand,

"HERE LIES THE FIRST AND LAST LOVED ONES LOST BY MEDIKUS!"

"HAA!!!"

Medikus struck the sand with lightning, turning most of the sand into crystal clear glass, immortalizing their faces, as a reminder of why he had to keep fighting.

"What now kid?"

"I'm going to find a man named Igneous the Dark."

"Ah, good old Igneous, you know some think of him as a myth, but me and you dad knew him personally. Be careful Medikus, it could be a rough trip."

"Will do!"

Medikus jumped into the air and caught a lightning bolt!

"Lost Sands, here I come!!!"

--

Soon Medikus found it as he flew west. He landed in a beautiful town in the Lost Sands. Medikus's stomach growled.

"I gotta find some food!"

Medikus walked into the nearest restaurant to where he had landed. The crowd murmured.

"Medikus, Son of Midaco, Savior of the Western Sands", they called him.

He sat down, right at the bar.

"I'll have the largest steak you have and an ice-cold mug of the strongest liquor you brew please!"
