Samuel let out a heavy sigh, his tired eyes scanning Adam's exhausted face.
"You need rest, food, and sleep," he breathed, his voice carrying the weight of the recent events. "Like Mimosa and Damon, you will be fine."
Adam nodded in agreement, his gaze following the men as they carefully lifted Damon into the car. Samuel hurried over to check on Damon's condition, leaving Adam alone to observe the chaotic scene.
Sitting on the edge of the van's back, Adam saw men bustling around, diligently cleaning up the aftermath. Fleas were still scurrying about, performing their last tasks. He couldn't help but notice the lifeless bodies of incubus and succubus scattered around. Some had already been taken away to be burned, their presence erased. In the distance, Reddington stood, clad in his customary black coat and hat, holding a bouquet of delicate pink roses.
Amidst the somber atmosphere, bouquets of flowers had been laid on the ground as a tribute to Mimi. Each one, accompanied by heartfelt messages, served as a painful reminder of the loss the world had endured, the loss Adam himself felt deep in his core.
Mimosa, exhausted from the ordeal, lay asleep in the car. Samuel had administered a shot of medicine to provide her with some much-needed rest. Adam had tried to console her, assuring her that self-blame would not ease the pain. But Mimosa remained inconsolable, burdened by the knowledge that Mimi had sacrificed herself for her sake.
Adam had confided in Samuel about this tragedy's lasting impact on Mimosa and the rest of the pack. The road to recovery seemed daunting and treacherous. Just then, a black car pulled up nearby, and Bran emerged, dressed in mourning attire, clutching a bouquet of pristine white lilies. He approached Adam in silence, his presence offering solace during grief.
As Adam listened to the murmurs of conversation around him, he watched as Mimi's lifeless body was carefully lifted onto a stretcher. Bran's voice broke the silence, inquiring about funeral arrangements.
Adam swallowed hard, his voice trembling as he replied, "It's Damon's decision. He's Mimi's next of kin, her husband, and her doctor. He has the final say. But for now, Samuel has put him to sleep so we can move them away from here. It's hard to believe she's really gone, even after spending a week in that place."
Bran grunted in understanding, acknowledging the profound loss they all felt. With a slow and solemn ascent, the stretcher carried Mimi's shrouded figure, a poignant reminder of the irreplaceable void left behind.
Adam observed the somber scene before him, taking in the multitude's sight, gathered to accompany Mimi on her final, heart-wrenching journey. The weight of the task fell on Samuel, who would transport Mimi's lifeless body to the Texas house, where a basement freezer awaited, ready to preserve her from decomposition until Damon could decide.
Adam's mind raced, trying to think rationally. The logical course of action seemed to be to cremate Mimi's body. Her unique DNA held immeasurable value, but that decision was solely Damon's to make. Time would heal, but it was not yet the right moment. Adam couldn't help but consider the toll this farewell would take on the many people who loved Mimi.
The vehicle assigned to carry Mimi's remains would be a simple, unremarkable van. Safety and utmost respect for Mimi was paramount, but modesty was necessary to safeguard against any sinister intent from the medical establishment that might seek to pilfer her body.
Adam wished for a grand procession with a team of majestic black horses, an ornate carriage, and a magnificent coffin if circumstances were allowed. An ostentatious display for all to witness. But their reality was far from that.
The men solemnly lifted and lowered the stretchers, deftly maneuvering the wheels underneath and securing them in place. A heavy sigh escaped Samuel's lips as he rose to his feet, his hand gripping the stethoscope. He would have to declare Mimi officially deceased, right there in front of everyone. It was an integral part of his duty.
Samuel saw Magnum standing a little further away; his expression was blank, and Samuel knew Magnum was going after the three who had escaped. Sometimes, he wished he could do the same. He saw Bran talking to Adam, Reddington, and Magnum were talking, and Jake was slowly walking towards them as well.
The energy fae came around Mimi's stretcher. There were over 200 of them.
Samuel was about to go to the stretcher when the leader, a female, took the human form and said, " We can help, we want to learn, feel, we can give her energy back."
Samuel asked, " So you want Mimi's body so you can live as a human, but it's not Mimi?"
Fae said, "No, we will give her a spark so that her soul can come back into her body. We get to experience emotions when we are her spark; we cease to exist in this form, and we change ourselves into Mimi's spark. "
Samuel furrowed his eyebrows. He knew that the fae always had an ulterior motive, and their deals were not good. What he had experienced, he remembered the Ariana, the betrayal, the bitterness. Other balls of light came and took human form. They gather near Mimi.
The fae gazed intently at him, their luminous eyes shimmering in the dim light. "Just because one fae did you wrong," they murmured softly, their melodious voices carrying a hint of sadness, "doesn't mean we all do wrong. It's hard to explain." The surrounding air seemed to quiver with an otherworldly energy.
"We can change from one energy to another," they continued, their words hanging in the air like a delicate melody. "We can endure abuse and torment, but if we become a swarm or a spark within a creature like her," they gestured towards Mimi's lifeless body, "we are safe forever. Mimi will be our eternal sanctuary. We will not conquer her, nor will we disrupt her. We will simply exist as her spark, never to be extinguished. By doing so, nothing can ever destroy her."
The fae's gaze shifted, now fixated upon Mimi's lifeless form and the expressions of the men surrounding her. "We yearn to learn to feel," they spoke with a sense of longing. "Over this fleeting period, you humans call a week. We have observed your emotions and your lives. We crave to experience it all. And this, dear humans, is the way to do it. If Mimi ever encounters other energy faes like us, all our experiences will be transferred to them, so that they, too, may learn."
Their words hung in the air, a tapestry of hope and curiosity. The fae's ethereal presence infused the surroundings, casting a spell of enchantment upon all who listened.
Adam walked closer. He was listening and said, "Do it, give her the spark. I want her back. We, I, we all need her."
Fae nodded and smiled. She lifted the sheet off Mimi's head to expose her face. Bran had also come closer, as had Reddington, Jake, and even Magnum. They all wanted a miracle.
Fae said, "She will be weak. She needs your help."
Samuel nodded and said, "Then try." His voice was hollow; he wanted to believe, but he was scared at the same time.
The female fae looked at Samuel and said, " Mimi saved our lives. We owe her, always and forever, and this is a great honor for us."
After saying that, Fae turned into a ball of light and sank into Mimi. Once again, the balls of light sank into Mimi. Nothing happened, and Samuel sighed. It didn't work... He turned around to look at his father, and then he heard it.
He took a stethoscope and put it to his ears, pressed the piece against Mimi's chest, and heard her heartbeat. Soon, Mimi tried to breathe, once and then again.
Adam burst into tears and said, " Hold on honey, hold on now."
Samuel sighed. His hands shook, and he watched as Mimi's face's white, greyish, pale color changed. She was still pale, but there was a slight blush on her lips, and she was breathing. Bran watched in amazement, and so did Magnum, Jake, and all the fleas.
Colin came in, and he said, "This girl, she is dead for a fucking week, and then she comes back to life. Well, the lady's not in very good shape, so I think we should do something."
Samuel looked at Mimi. He was drying his own eyes, trying to get into medical mode, but damn, it was hard.
Samuel said, "Yeah, I'll take her to Chicago and check out the condition there."
Colin nodded. Samuel listened to Mimi's breathing and heart rate again. Mimi would have a bumpy and difficult recovery ahead of her, but she was alive.
Charles came over and said, "I'll have the plane up and running in an hour. The flight time is just over two hours and then the drive to the house, but it's quicker than driving there."
Samuel nodded and said, "Good job, get out of there."
The first thing that came to my mind was pain. And the need to breathe. I remembered the whole rainbow islands, or whatever it was. When I heard Colin say that I'd been dead for a week, I was pretty damn surprised. I felt Samuel listening to me with a stethoscope.
I was alive but in so much fucking pain, weak as a kitten, and I felt like I didn't even have the strength to open my eyes, but I tried to get them open.
I heard somebody say, " Hey, I think Mimi's trying to wake up."
I got my eyes open just a little bit. The sun was shining right in my eyes.
Jake looked at me and said, " Adam, Samuel, Mimi's awake."
I heard footsteps approaching. Samuel came over, looked at me, and said in a voice I barely recognized that he seemed to hold back tears. "Well, miss, do you feel wise now?"
I tried to laugh, but my voice was something between a grunt and a whimper. My throat was dry, but I managed to say, " Yeah, real wise."
Adam looked at me from the other side and said, "Never do that again, honey; you were dead for a fucking week. Now I'm not letting you go anywhere."
I said. "I'm not really okay with going anywhere. How's Damon? Did he make it, Mimosa?"
Adam said, "Both asleep, Damon wouldn't have let go of your body, and Mimosa blamed herself. How are you?"
I said, "I'm pretty much in pain, weak as fuck, and happy to be alive."
Samuel came up to me and said, "I'll give you some painkillers. It'll probably knock you out, but you need to rest."
I nodded, felt the sting in my arm, and then everything blurred to where I fell asleep.
Samuel sighed. He didn't really have any supplies with him, but as soon as Mimi had come to life, the fleas worked.
Soon, Jake came over to Samuel and said, "I took what I could find from the base. This isn't our biggest base, and we were short on supplies, but I gathered what I could find."
Samuel said, "Thank you all very much." He took a sports bag from Jake and said, "Look for quilts, blankets, whatever you can buy; I can give you a card; Mimi is too cold."
Jake grunted and said, " I don't need a card; I have money. "
He walked to his car, and a few men came with him, including Magnum, and the car sped off. Samuel had directed the men to put Mimi in one van and turn the heat on in there. He got into his own car, took the sports bag Jake had brought, and flicked through it.
He picked up various bandages and some ointments. Colin came with him to have a look. Colin brought a first aid kit from his car, and the men acted quickly. They got into the car and tried to keep Mimi as protected as they could. Samuel could already smell the infection, and Colin was swearing, too.
They first dressed the wound on Mimi's neck carefully, Samuel stitched a few stitches and they covered it with a thick bandage then he tried to look at the wound the demon sword had made, he put bandages and antibiotic ointment on it as well as he could.
When they had just finished bandaging Mimi, Jake, Magnum, and a few other men brought in thick, warm blankets and pillows.
They put Mimi as securely as they could, and Adam said, "Mimosa is still asleep. How about we put Mimosa next to Mimi to be Mimi's radiator? It will probably do them both good."
Samuel nodded and said, " Good idea, by the way,"
Jake and Magnum went to get the anesthetized Mimosa, and the men put Mimosa tightly against Mimi, her back against Mimi's stomach so that Mimosa didn't accidentally kick Mimi. Charles announced ten minutes later that the plane was getting ready. So the men packed into the cars.
The fleas had taken the cards and flowers that had been brought to Mimi elsewhere. The carcasses of the incubus and succubus had been destroyed. Then the fleas blew up the space where Adam and Mimi, Damon, and Mimosa had been, destroying the evidence. Soon, the space was just an old, collapsed apartment building, and the authorities would declare it an accident.
The car drove off, its precious cargo in tow. Damon was in the other car with Adam, and Magnum was driving it. Samuel was driving the other car, and Colin was sitting next to him. Both men were silent.
A miracle had happened, but Mimi was still very fragile, and one thing Samuel feared was if Mimi went into hibernation. She had tried once; Damon had somehow sensed it, but now, he knew nothing yet about Mimi's condition except that she was alive.
They would then take Mimi on a stretcher on the plane and try to keep her warm, asleep, and pain-free. Samuel didn't dare give much medicine because of Mimi's non-existent condition. They had the equipment that the fleas had picked up and that Colin had had. But there was more to be done in Chicago.
When they got to the plane, Charles met them. The drive had taken 35 minutes, and neither man had heard anything. Charles looked at the sight for a moment and then laughed.
Samuel came over and said, " Should we..."
Adam had also walked to the car when he noticed the men's hesitation.
He asked, " Is there a problem here?"
Samuel said, " Look for yourself."
Adam looked in the car. Mimi had turned on her side and had somehow turned Mimosa to face her. Mimosa's upper legs were on Mimi's side, and Mimi's arms were tight around the wolf. Then Adam noticed that Mimosa was awake despite that, although that was not the most comfortable position in the world.
Mimi's lips and teeth were pressed firmly against the skin of Mimosa's muzzle, and the grip was pretty damn tight. Somehow, Adam sensed Mimosa's discomfort.
Adam said, " Mimosa, do you want us to release her? I think that hurts, and it's quite uncomfortable."
Mimosa replied, "I can take it, Mimi is alive so she can hang on my muzzle for six months, don't unhook her, she's sleeping now, I'll give her some mimosa power, it won't do any miracles but it will help with the pain."
Samuel grunted. The men then collectively lifted Mimi and Mimosa onto the stretcher and kept them warm. Samuel took Mimi's temperature. It was still really low, at only 34 degrees Celsius, but it was a fucking lot better than the 18 degrees Celsius it had been originally.
The stretcher was taken inside the plane, and they put it on tight, but there was not much the men could do for Mimi now, except to cannulate her and give her whatever fluids they had. Samuel and Colin discussed the use of antibiotics during the flight.
Damon was still asleep. The men had carried him to one chair to sleep in. Samuel suspected he would wake up before they got to the Chicago house. But they would put Damon and Adam in a different car and take Mimi in another car.
Adam restrained himself, but for how long and then for Damon, he couldn't restrain himself at all. Samuel sighed. Now, there was a genuine danger that Damon would start nesting with Mimi, and Mimi wouldn't benefit from that at all.
Mimi had Mimosa's muzzle in her mouth for the entire flight, and then the men finally got Mimosa to agree to let Mimi off her muzzle. Mimosa was in the same car as Adam and Damon, and Mimi, Samuel, and Colin were driving the other car.
Charles, Magnum and a gigantic pile of fleas had gone off to chase the incubus kings who had escaped. Samuel had given Mimi a small dose of more painkillers on the plane, and she seemed to sleep. The power of Mimosa had even helped the neck wound to heal a little, and everything was going forward.
The journey to the house would take about 45 minutes, depending on the traffic. Samuel and Colin were driving ahead. They had a slight head start, if only because Mimi had to get to Medbay for treatment before Damon came.
When Damon woke up, he wouldn't have wanted to be awake because Mimi was gone.
Adam said, "We're on our way to Chicago; welcome back, Mimi's alive."
Damon was quiet and said, "I don't want to live without Mimi and say nothing about a funeral."
Adam had to explain three times before Damon realized Mimi was barely alive. They were on their way to the house in Chicago. They would be there soon. Samuel, Colin, and Mimi were in a car different from Damon and Adam's. Damon had never felt so relieved—such joy.
He knew Mimi's condition wasn't good, but it was better than dead. So fucking much better. She'd been dead in his arms for a week, and he'd never forgotten it. He was very grateful to those energy fae, and then he remembered his dream.
He had been on a sandy beach, with someone who looked like Vivien Leigh, like before.
She had said, "Sweetheart, Mimi chose you, your love. We will meet one day when the time is right, and our love will revolutionize your world. Now you have time to be with Mimi. Show her she made the right choice. "
Damon had kissed her passionately in his dream. He didn't understand these dreams, but he knew this wasn't a dream. This was some kind of vision, a message to him. Mimi had chosen him. Their love and he would now have to show her she had made the right choice. He couldn't wait to hold her in his arms, to hear her breathing, her heartbeat.
