CHAPTER TWO: ONE TRIAL, MULTIPLE DEATH. (PART 1 OF 2)

The tension and fear wasn't just present in our chests, it was in the entire forest and all of Salem. That little bell was capable of causing an uproar in every corner of the village, it was the sign that someone had been accused of witchcraft.

One accusation was enough to take a life and, if you had no way of proving that you were not Satan's wife, no one could save you, after all who will defend a person so close to death and risk losing his life?

Even so far from the village, it was possible to hear the horses marching quickly towards us, it seemed that a whole crowd was coming towards us.

When I noticed Naomi's face, she was stunned by that situation, her eyes that are flashy like emeralds suddenly were nothing compared to the size of her pupil and her breath was panting like mine. I didn't know what my expression looked like, but I knew I was terrified to the point that I couldn't even move.

Naomi and I looked at each other, she knew I had no idea what to do, so Naomi breathed all that air of fear between us and took action.

- Angeline - Naomi held my arms firmly and looked at me with great certainty - You have to run to your house, without stopping and without looking back.

I wanted to stop leaving her behind, but the horses were getting closer and closer to us. At that I ran as far away from Naomi as possible.

I was about to enter the trees, that's when I stopped and turned around and saw from afar Naomi desperately running to her house. If she had sacrificed herself for me, I wouldn't let it be in vain. I started to run like prey on the run from a predator.

After a few hours of running my legs were weak, the only thing that motivated me was the scene of Naomi running into her house. It could be crawling, but I wouldn't stop.

I didn't know where I was, to make it worse, I didn't know this side of the forest, I was very short of breath from running so much and my body, full of sweat, stuck to my clothes.

With my legs almost leaving my body exhausted, I had to stop, the place where I stopped in the middle of the forest was unforgettable, its charm was a lake with translucent waters and the red flowers that sprouted on the branches and fell on the trees . Gradually I approached the lake, with an unbearable dryness I approached the lake and drank that water with great contentment.

I hadn't eaten anything, but that much water I drank was enough. I took advantage of my full belly and lay down on that dry green grass. I started to observe that blue sky, but my eyes were uncomfortable with that radiance of the sun, so I got up and sat down and talked to myself.

- At the beginning of the day I was laughing at those who were enraged by this heat, now in the middle of it I am the one who hates this hell.

  Suddenly I heard a noise that came from behind me, it sounded like light and calm steps. I tried to hold my breath, but it was too late and I was panicking.
