A Surprise Lecture

I was late. Again. Third time this week. I know I should've gotten up atleast 2 hours before school time but hey it isn't my fault that my alarm decided to ditch me again.

I was still drowsy from sleep when I heard my mom yelling at me to come downstairs for breakfast. At that moment, I realized I have approximately 15 minutes to take a shower , get ready , pack my bag and have breakfast altogether.

I decided to ditch the shower .Quickly brushing my teeth, I washed my face and applied some deo and lip gloss and ran downstairs with my backpack.

I tossed some grapes in my mouth and could vaguely hear my mother's yelling when I ran out of the house with lightning speed.

Atleast I believe it was lightning speed.

I was halfway to the school when it started raining. Heavily. And guess what ? I had no umbrella. Yayy me !

Now I know what you're thinking , who doesn't carry an umbrella during rainy season ? But as you already know, I was late to school . So yep , no umbrella , late to school and... I probably would've forgotten my assignment at home too if I hadn't kept it in my bag last night itself. Wow... Talk about miserable day .

Nevermind . I'm an optimist ! So I'll just try to focus on the positive part. Such as.... well... okay... may be there's nothing positive about today. But it's alright. I'll get through today. Just like all other days.

Wait ! Did I introduce myself to you guys ? Oopsies sorry ! Hii I'm Athena Irene Hearst. I'm 19 years old . I'm studying data science at Allwood University. That's all the basic information about me.

I was rushing in the university with my bag covering my head , a futile attempt of trying to protect myself from rain when I'm bumped into Rhea .

Rhea has been my best friend since high school. Her strawberry blonde hair, dark eyes and petite figure have always gifted her many admirers. She is the only one who knows everything about me and still has decided to stick around.

" What the hell Athena ! I've been trying to call you since forever . Where were you ? And wait... Why are you drenched ? And why didn't you pick up my calls ? And why are you late again ? It's so unlike you ! Did you bring the assignment ? Mr. D might bury you this time . Seriously Athena....., " she continued her rant without giving me a single chance to talk.

Finally when she calmed down , I answered, " I woke up late again. My alarm clock has been screwing up with me this week. And I forgot my umbrella. So...here I am , all in my wet glory. No wait , that sounded wrong."

Rhea smirked at me and asked " Was it really the alarm clock's fault or were you up till late last night again ? "

I blushed and answered her " No ! Why would I be up late night ? And would you please keep your voice down! What if someone hears you ?"

Ever since I told Rhea my secret , she has been teasing me sneakily but relentlessly. I know she'd never tell anyone deliberately and I trust her but if someone hears it by chance , it'll be the death of me .

Rhea frowned seeing my embarrassment " I don't understand why you have to be so embarrassed about it . It's your choice AND life. Stop thinking about other people and their opinions ! Just do what you want. Stop caring about what others think. "

" Alright I think we've had enough of this conversation. Let's go . I don't want to miss our next class . Missing the first lecture was enough as it is, " I said, desperate for a subject change.

Rhea must've sensed my discomfort cause she dropped the topic too " Fine. Let's go. Wait... Did I tell you that we're having a guest lecturer today ?"

" What ? Guest lecturer ? Why weren't we informed about it before ? " Considering I was one of the nerds of the class , I should've known about this.

" Yeah. It's a surprise lecture apparently. Are we even supposed to have those ? And yes , you don't know about it because we were informed in the first lecture where you were absent. " Rhea consoled.

We both started moving towards the general room where all the guest lectures were conducted.

Rhea kept muttering something about Hugh Jackman and how he blames Scarlett Johansson for his feud with Ryan Reynolds but I paid only half attention to it . My mind kept wandering on this nagging feeling that told me something was going to happen today

Something big , something life-changing.
