CHAPTER 7

A/N:

Hey, sorry for the sudden disappearance.

Exams are happening right now, and I forgot about it until a week ago when my friend told me to study for it.

So yeah, final exams for my semester. It ends on the 23rd, so I'll be back at that date.

As an apology, I'll post Chapter 8 and 9 the moment my exams finish, that I swear!

See you guys ;)

Jaune Arc POV

He had been in Vale for almost a week now, and he was running out of cash.

Maybe bringing only 5000 Lien and his backpack wasn't the ideal plan, but he did it! He left his house to join Beacon!

... Even if the application was a transcript, he made it in!

Now to train for it. Beacon was 6 weeks from now, so he had at least a month and a half to train as much as he could to at least meet the standard of a Huntsman.

Maybe he could get a 6 pack if he trained hard enough.

He even found a nice warehouse to stay in for the remaining month! It was just 1000 Lien a month, too! ... Well, he could live without water or electricity, but hey, at least he had a roof above him.

Gripping onto Crocea Mors, he swung it vertically before repeating. He felt a little guilty holding onto it, since, you know, he stole it from the treasury, but it's a sword, it's meant to be used!

And there's a little hint of glee too. It was a sword! He was using a sword!

But it's quite heavy though, heavier than he thought. He could only do about a dozen swings before his arm started to hurt. And don't get him started with the shield! It was HEAVY!

But he persisted. After all, he'd become a joke if he could hold his weapons for just 5 minutes! So he continued.

SWING! SWING! SWING! SWING!

Continuously swinging, he didn't even realize that something was getting closer to him until a voice spoke out.

"Your stance is wrong."

That made him scream out loud as his sword dropped to the ground, miraculously his shield was still firm on his hand though. He glanced behind him to see a boy holding onto a motorcycle helmet.

"Your legs are too close together."

And with a push, he fell to the ground.

"H-Hey!"

What was this guy's problem? Heck, how did he even get in his warehouse?

"You need to widen your stance and lower your center of gravity. That will give a more stable stance and provide more points of motion."

The boy then reaches out to him with his hands out, gesturing him to grab on and pull himself up. He did so.

Bending his legs slightly, the boy separates his legs so that they were parallel to his shoulders. Holding onto his helmet like a big rock, he swings it.

"See? More motion options. And when you swing, don't put all your power into it, or else you'll burn out quicker. Let the weight of the sword and gravity guide your attack."

Why is he even helping him? Looking at the boy's example, Jaune couldn't help but feel a little thankful. He had never held a weapon before, so he didn't even know the basics. Now at least he had some resemblance of a direction.

Getting into his stance, he did what the boy advised him to. Crouch slightly... Widen his stance... Don't use 100% of his power...

SWING SWING SWING SWING SWING!

It does feel more natural, and it's easier too! Huh, so that was all he had to do?

Turning around, he thanked the boy.

"Thanks for the tip!"

"No problem. You look like an aspiring Huntsman. Joining Beacon this year?"

He sheepishly nodded, causing the boy to hum in thought.

"... I can tell that you are still a beginner, no offense. You'll need all the help you can get. How about I come here once every few days to train you? Just the basics though."

His eyes widened. Did he just get a trainer out of nowhere?

"But why? I don't really have anything to give you though..."

He waved his hand at that.

"Nothing. I just want to help you. Nothing more, nothing less."

... Huh. Well, a free trainer and a potential new friend? Mum does say that "Strangers are just friends that you haven't met yet"...

"Alright, you got yourself a deal! ... Er..."

What was his name again? He doesn't remember if he introduced himself...

"I'm Rin. Nice to meet you."

Ah, introductions to your new trainer, Jaune!

"Jaune, Jaune Arc. Rolls off the tongue, and ladies love it!"

Perfect execution, Jaune!

"... Don't ever use that again, for yours and other's sake."

... Darn.

"Good, now follow up!"

Jaune had managed to swing upwards, striking the guard that Rin made and causing it to reel back from the power behind it.

Following his orders, Jaune yelled as he shifted his weight before swinging an overhead, but was once again blocked by Rin.

"Don't use your overhead strikes unless you're certain that they would not be able to dodge or block it! Use fast strikes instead!"

Rin advised before twisting to dodge a diagonal slash, nimbly positioning behind him before releasing a stab that hit Jaune in the ribs.

With an "Ouch!", he drops to the ground from the impact, clutching his ribs in pain.

"Your reaction time needs more work, and you have a shield for god's sake."

He berated Jaune before placing the sword on the ground, walking to the side to get a drink. They had been training for over a month now, and Jaune had seen a big improvement since then.

Seriously, he thinks that he could now fight evenly with the Beacon students now!

And he got a 4-pack from all the training that Rin forced him to do! Even if it was torture... Ugh, he shudders thinking about the training for tomorrow. That was for future Jaune, not current Jaune.

"Alright, we're done for today, Jaune. Stretch while I get you something to eat."

And his cooking was amazing too! Who knew that coffee and curry could blend together so well?

Following his order, he drops to the ground before starting to stretch, warming his body down and feeling his muscles loosen from the stretching. Ah... Exercising was hard, man.

By the time he was finished with his stretching, Rin had already come back from his store using his bike he named "Johanna" with a plate of curry and a cup of joe. It smelt so good...

Taking a bite, he groaned as the flavors burst in his mouth. It was so goodddddd!

Chewing, he finally realized that Rin had already gone back, he was always so silent, causing him to slump his shoulders.

He didn't even have the chance to invite Rin to a gaming night session...

Eh, whatever. Next time then, maybe he could even get him to play Road Brawler 6 with him. He got it for 20% off on Mist!

Timeskip...

Emerald POV

"So, what're we doing?"

She asks Rin who was staring at the maps that decorated his room's floor above Leblanc. With a pen in his mouth, he replied.

"Well, we're attacking this politician. Kold Kesin, one of the High Table members that we've not yet targeted."

Pointing at the picture on the wall, Emerald took a closer look at the blue-haired middle-aged man with a gnarly scar on his left side of his face before humming.

"I think I seen him before. Isn't he like one of the most powerful men in Remnant?"

She remembered the man from the TV. Kold Kesin, he was the top 10 most powerful men in Remnant, and has a company that revolves in medical practices with a fortune of over 50 million Lien, just just two ranks below the Schnee Dust Corp.

"Exactly. That means that he must have accumulated more dirt than any of the High Table politicians combined."

He told Emerald as he got up from his seat.

"OK. I think I got a good picture of his mansion. Tomorrow night, the Phantom Thieves, Daemon and Heka, will Infiltrate his mansion. Hopefully we can find something useful..."

He stopped as he stared at the room that was circled with a red pen. The room had this odd feeling that she felt, something that she had been trained in seeing after joining the Phantom Thieves.

That was when Rin yawned before rubbing his eyes, that was a cute sight to see. It was already 1 in the morning, and Leblanc opens at 8.

"Alright, Mister! Time to go to bed!"

He just stares at her before muttering something along the lines of "Morgana" and "Bed trauma" before standing up from the ground.

"Yes, Mum."

"..."

He mutters quietly as he thought that it was low enough to not be heard, but she picked it up and frowned, feeling a bit of hurt from it. After all, he was her — !

Her face explodes in redness.

Uh... His partner in crime! Yes, she's his precious partner as a Phantom Thief, that was it!

Definitely not a lover or something, that would be surreal!

She thought to herself as she fanned her face instinctively, looking at Rin who was staring with intent at the map, not recognizing that he looked so hot being so serious like.

...

She definitely does not think of him as more than a friend. Nope.
