Chapter 1Where am I?

"What the hell is this?" Those were the only words that escaped the young esper's mouth as he stared up at those dark skies. Those dark skies that held the now-shattered remnants of what used to be the moon

Accelerator stared at the sky for what seemed like hours. He was trying to figure out if what he was experiencing was real. His first thoughts were that perhaps all that accumulated energy from the star was the cause of the now-shattered moon, but the idea quickly fled his mind. He was sure he managed to condense that energy into something smaller.

Tearing his gaze away from the shattered moon, his hand reached toward his Calculation Assistance Device, or, for short, his electrode directly connected to the Misaka Network. It consciously carried information directly towards his damaged brain; it allowed him to walk, talk, and most importantly, use his powerful ability of vector control.

But said device was currently offline; he was no longer receiving any signal from the Misaka Network. In hindsight, he should not even be able to accurately collect his thoughts, or even move, for that matter. Yet here he was, no muddled thoughts, his legs were working fine, he could speak accurately, and most of all, he could use his ability.

With a simple command, his ability would activate, and the countless calculations set at the tip of his brain would be ready for use. But even with the revelation, the esper frowned. His brain was damaged beyond repair, and the frontal cortex was, for the most part, not fully functional due to the injury he received. It wasn't the kind of injury to simply heal, even with advanced technology like Academy City.

The esper mulled over his thoughts, trying to figure out just what exactly happened after he collided with that foreign energy.

But his thoughts quickly drifted to something else, or more accurately, someone.

"Last Order." He muttered the name of the girl he went through so much to protect. Thoughts of the shatterd moon and his functional brain fled his mind quickly as his thoughts focused on what had happened to her.

The city had recovered her along with Worst, no doubt; he doubted they would try something with her for a while, but he won't be able to protect her this way.

"I don't know what the hell happened to the moon, but it's clear that I have much more important priorities." The esper muttered to himself. He wouldn't allow her to go through so much suffering again; he'd make sure she'd keep her smile.

He knew what he wanted to do, but how was he going to accomplish that? His eye's scanned through his surroundings, a deep, dark forest. Not the kind you would find in Russia. Luckily, it wasn't too dark, so he should be able to navigate his way through the forest.

But that was easier said than done; he was no survivalist expert, and he would eventually tire himself out by walking around aimlessly with no destination in mind. Not to mention, he would have needed food and water if he were going to prolong his adventure in this forest.

Now these problems could be remedied with the use of his esper power. He could navigate his way through the forest if he used his ability to fly; reducing his own body weight and using the wind to launch himself in a specific direction did the trick.

But there lied the issue: his means of flying primarily implemented fast movements; he wasn't able to do complicated maneuvers mid-air. And at the high speeds he would be going, he wouldn't be able to spot anything worthwhile. His flying could primarily be used by chasing something or participating in arial combat that did not require much movement. But navigating through it could prove difficult.

Accelerator clicked his tongue; things were more complicated than they needed to be. He mulled over his thoughts as he considered the best course of action.

"Screw it." He simply said to himself as he bent his legs slightly. In the next instance, the ground beneath his feet cracked as he launched himself to the sky; like a rocket being launched, he easily gained a high altitude.

As he soared through the sky, he strained his eyes as he scanned for anything from his high position. Trees, trees, and more trees were all that filled his vision.

But now that he thought about it, with how dark it was, it would be near impossible to spot anything that might stand out in such a dense forest.

A heavy sigh escaped him as gravity quickly took hold of his body. As he started to fall, he once again went over his thoughts. Just how did he end up in a forest of all places? He doubted the blast of energy was what sent him flying to this place, so what could it be?

Momentarily, his eyes found themselves latched onto the broken moon. A thought crossed his mind, but it quickly fled right after. It was an absurd thought to have, not one that seemed the least bit logical. However, any thoughts he had quickly came to a halt as he collided with the ground.

Dust kicked up into the air as Accelerator lied in a crator of his making; not a speck of dust was on him, nor did he receive any injuries. Accelerator stared at the night skies dully as he leisurely lied within the creator.

"I should've kept my eye's on the ground." He muttered as he stood up. He scowled as he looked at the surrounding trees. Up until now, he's been faced with countless threats, ranging from heavily armed groups of dangerous individuals to powerful espers to unknown entities such as the being Aiwass. He'd survived all those threats, yet here he was having trouble finding his way through a simple forest.

"Laughable, fucking laughable."

He merely shook his head at his predicament, but his attention was quickly grabbed by something else. His ears picked up on a low growl nearby. His eye quickly scanned through the area until it landed on one location. Within the darkness of the forest, red eyes lit up within them, and something emerged from within it.

A black-furred wolf-like creature, though it was abnormally large and standing on its hind legs. But what stood out most about the creature was the bonelike armor sticking out of its skin, covering the majority of its body and face.

An intimidating creature to say the least, though Accelerator merely raised an eyebrow upon looking at the creature.

("Not a regular animal, maybe an esper? They are able to reconstruct their DNA while using the DNA map of animals as a reference for their transformation.") Accelerator concluded, though he found himself unsatisfied with his deduction.

If this was an esper, then perhaps the city sent it to retrieve him. That would be the logical conclusion. Accelerator soon found his theory to be wrong as he picked up on more noise. And in one instance, four more of the same creatures emerged, completely surrounding Accelerator.

"What the hell?" He merely blurted out as he stared at the identical snarling creatures.

("Not an esper then; maybe another weapon developed by the city. Altering and mutating the DNA map of an already existing animal could produce results such as this. Then a wolf must've been used, but what's the point of it then? Surely they don't think these things could be useful, right?")

Accelerator's train of thought was cut short when one of these creatures finally decided to attack, seemingly tired of waiting.

Charging at the esper, it closed the distance between them in an instance. Accelerator watched with bored eyes as the snarling creature before him brought down its clawed hand, intent on cleaving through him. Though as soon as the claw seemed to make contact, it's arm shot backwards as a sickening crack was heard.

It's arm nearly tore out of its socket; the exposed mangle bone of the arm was barely atrached to the shoulder of the creature.

Accelerator was almost impressed at the amount of force the creature tried to hit him with. But he put those thoughts aside as he watched the creature nearly fall over due to the excess force and pain before the Accelerator's hand reached towards its chest.

It made contact, and as if a bomb were set off within it, its body seemed to explode from within; the chunks of flesh and bone scattered around the ground as a black liquid shot everywhere, though Accelerator didn't have a drop of said liquid on himself.

"Hmm, it still has organs and a substitute for blood." Accelerator mused as he watched two more of the creatures charge at him.

Accelerator, however, found a grin etched on his face as he watched the approaching creatures.

"Well, I still need to test if my ability is fully functional, so I guess this is my rehab." The esper mused before raising his arm.

The two were in front of him, so he'd just kill them at the same time, and so he swung his hand downward. A compressed wind slammed onto the creatures from above, like a hammer. The force of the wind easily tore through them as if they were mere paper dolls. A simple application of vector control, merely direct the wind downwards and amplify it.

The satisfied Accelerator turned to the remaining two; they didn't seem to want to rush him blindly. Instead, one circled around him, intent on attacking from behind. The other slowly approached from behind.

Accelerator noted the slight intelligence of the creatures, but he decided to act first this time. Accelerator seemingly disappeared from the view of the two in one instance.

In a flash, he seemed to appear behind one of them; it did not even have time to react as it found an iron grip at the back of its head.

Accelerator merely applied more force, and his fingers sank into the creature's skull, completely crushing its head. It was a simple matter of increasing his own finger mass via vector control.

He threw the body aside as his eye landed on the last one, who actually seemed hesitant to attack. Though Accelerator didn't care, with a grin, he shot forward and reached it. In one instance, he weakly clenched his fist and threw a lazy punch at its torso. The result was a sickening crunch of bone reverberating through the forest as Accelerator's fist tore through the entirety of its upper body.

Accelerator watched as the remains fell over, but he raised an eyebrow when he noted its body seemed to disintegrate into black smoke.

("So their bodies, cells, and organs disapate upon death.") He noted as he saw the lack of corpses.

But he still wondered what exactly they were; they weren't made by scientific means, that's for sure. He was at least sure of that, because upon making contact with them, he studied their anatomy through their bioelectricity. They had organs and brains, but their cells were unstable, and they lacked certain internal organs.

Academy City couldn't be responsible for these things; they were clearly made by other means. But how were they made, then?

"Magic..." Accelerator muttered the word with uncertainty. He knew it existed, but he did not nearly know the extent of it. All he knew was that magic was a law he had little knowledge about. It was illogical and unorthodox, but maybe it could begin to explain his situation.

"Just what is going on?"
