6 I've Been Waiting

Lisa

Slowly I walked towards the room, my heart pounding erratically, and my mind running wild with thoughts. Things were beginning to make sense a bit, but despite finding out about Icarus, I really couldn't do anything at the moment. I couldn't escape from Klaus, and trying to ally myself with his twin brother was not exactly a good decision.

I managed to clear my head, but the moment I stepped closer to the room, I felt my blood immediately run cold. It wasn't from the sheer malice that was pouring out of the room, but from the thought that had just crossed my mind.

Klaus and I were officially mated to each other now, did that mean he'd have his way with me tonight? Should I really be walking into this room? I questioned myself while my fingers slowly recoiled from the doorknob. I was still new to the castle, and had no idea where I would run to in order to avoid spending the night with Klaus. But regardless of that fact, I turned around and slowly walked away from the room.

I expected him to come after me, but surprisingly nothing happened. I knew without a doubt that he had sensed my presence when I had gotten close to the door, yet he showed no interest in pursuing me.

A breath of relief broke past my lips at the realization that he wasn't coming after me. Judging from the aura that engulfed the room, I suspected he was too occupied with dealing with Icarus to worry about me. After all there was nothing I could do. Escape was no longer a viable option at the moment, thanks to my first attempt, and Icarus's appearance, security had tightened around the castle.

After five minutes of aimless walking, I finally stumbled upon the garden, and with a bright smile, I immediately ran into its embrace. The moment I stepped into the garden, the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers enveloped my nostrils, wrapping me in a comforting embrace. The gentle night breeze carried the scent of roses, lilies, and jasmine, and together, they mixed to form a symphony of fragrance.

Taking a seat on the bench nestled beneath a towering oak tree, I tilted my head back, and gazed up at the vast expanse of the night sky. The stars twinkled like distant diamonds, scattered across the darkness in a mesmerizing display.

I closed my eyes, allowing the tranquility of the night to wash over me. For the first time in the past forty eight hours, I felt at peace, and all I could think about was what life would have been without Klaus. I thought of Mark, how broken he would be to find out that I'd been mated to the Alpha. We loved each other, and that affection was not something I could get over easily.

Slowly and steadily, tears gathered around my eyes, but I fought them back. I didn't want to cry, it wouldn't do anything to help my situation. The last thing I wanted was to give Klaus the satisfaction of seeing me suffer, it was what he wanted, and he had made that abundantly clear.

"What do you think you're doing? Enjoying the night's beauty after you've stolen my man from me?!" A familiar voice bellowed into the once calm atmosphere.

Jolted from my thoughts, I spun around and met Maeve's approaching figure. Thanks to the moon's illumination, I could see the miserable look on her face. She had bags under her eyelids, and her smeared mascara could only mean she had been crying before approaching me.

I immediately rose from where I sat and backed away as Maeve covered the distance between us with a threatening pace.

"I..I didn't want any of this—" I tried to reason with her, but it was too late. Her hands stretched forth into the night, and in the next second, the outline of her palm was imprinted on my right cheek. At that moment, the tears I fought hard to keep abay began to spill as I held my hot cheeks in agony.

"You did all of this! You should have run away when I told you to! Klaus doesn't need someone like you in his life, I'm more suited to be his bride!" Maeve thundered as her hands steadily circled around my collar. She was crying as well, and although I could see the hurt in her eye, I wasn't going to just stand and watch her bully me. For all I know she wasn't of royal blood, and I wasn't going to sit around and let myself get beaten by a random lady who was obsessed over a horrible man.

Gathering the little strength I had in me, I managed to squeeze myself away from Maeve's grip, and before she could react, I smacked her across the face.

"I've had enough of you! I won't stand still and let you do what you want." I screamed at her while I steadily backed away. In a fight, Maeve would undoubtedly beat me, after all I was a lowly omega.

"You stupid brat! How dare you touch me!" Maeve screamed out in agony before rushing forward to give me a decent beating. However, before she could inch any closer to me, a guard stepped in-between us and placed his spear in his possession right at Maeve's neck.

"I won't let you act out of line anymore, miss. She's the Alpha's bride, you'd do well to respect her." The guard cautioned sternly. Maeve was trembling in fear, and had only managed to regain her composure after the guard lowered his blade from her neck.

Embarrassed, Maeve turned around, and without another word stormed away. Once she was gone, the guard turned his attention towards me, and after checking me out for injuries, finally offered to escort me back to my room. I had no idea how to tell him I didn't want to go back, but at the same time, I didn't want to remain outside. I knew Maeve would come back should I decide to remain here, and there was no telling what she would do the next time she comes back.

Reluctantly, I gave him a nod of approval, and only then did the guard lead me towards the bedroom.

"I'm Rudolph, if you need anything don't hesitate to ask me." He offered before bowing and finally taking his leave.

Once he was gone, I returned my attention towards the door that separated me from Klaus. Although the malice had reduced exponentially, the air around the room wasn't entirely welcoming. Taking in a deep inhale, I finally mustered the courage to push the door in. And there he was on the bed, his amber eyes glaring into the depths of my soul. Before I could retreat, he rose from the bed, and in one quick movement pinned me to the wall.

He leaned closer, his warm breath caressing my skin with every breath he took. The heat of his body engulfed my tender body, as he inched even closer to me. Then in a voice no louder than a whisper, seductively, Klaus spoke.

"I've been waiting for you."
