Chapter 2 - Trouble

Amelia's POV

Amelia woke up to voices coming from downstairs. She slowly made her way down the stairs carefully. Amelia peeked around the corner and saw two men in black suits talking to her mother in the kitchen. She looked at the table to see her sister sitting there crying, and wearing handcuffs. Vera saw Amelia and motioned towards the door, telling her to run.

Amelia quietly snuck back upstairs and grabbed some scissors from her desk drawer. She then headed back down the stairs and, when the men weren't looking, she crawled to her sister.

"Don't worry Vera ill get you out of here, okay?" Amelia whispered. Vera just slowly shook her head up and down.

Next, Amelia slowly snuck up behind one of the men. She grabbed the scissors and stabbed him in the back. He yelled out in pain and both of them turned around. One of the men grabbed her by her arm.

She yelled in pain, "Let go of me!" and grabbed the man, trying to get free.. Her mother then grabbed a pan and smashed one of the men in the head and he dropped to the ground. The other man then turned around and also got a pan to the head. Now that both of the men were knocked out on her kitchen floor she looked up at her mom, terrified.

Her mother looked at her and spoke fast, "Amelia you listen to me.pack your stuff, take your sister and get yourselves somewhere safe. Do you hear me? It's not safe here, I can't come with you. Make sure you never come back. You two run and don't stop. Keep her safe for me Amelia. I love you both."

Amelia gave her mother a hug and looked at her sister. "I understand. I'll do my best to keep Vera safe," she answered with tears.

Amelia grabbed the handcuff keys off one of the men still laying on the kitchen floor and uncuffed Vera. "Vera, say goodbye to mom and hurry. We have to go before they wake up."

Vera ran to her mom, gave her a hug, and then ran to her room to pack a bag. Their mother watched Vera go and then looked at Amelia.

"Go, Amelia. I���ll lock these two in the basement. That should hold them off for a bit and give you a headstart."

Amelia ran up to her room and grabbed all her savings. She grabbed her large camping bag and packed clothes, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a brush, a water bottle, her computer, phone, blankets, and a pillow. She ran downstairs with her plump bag.

Her mother gave her a hug and a stack of cash. "You take this. It's my savings. It should be enough to buy some meals, maybe a hotel room for a couple of nights and gas."

Amelia whispered," Thank you, mom. I love you." She then waited for Vera to say goodbye.

Vera ran to her mom, gave her a hug, and then looked at Amelia. Amelia walked out the front door with Veraright behind her. They threw their bags into the back of her car and hopped in. They started driving and Vera looked over at Amelia's bruised arm then looked back at the road.
