9 Goodnight

The news of the ambush and the mysterious man was spread rapidly around the towns in Fujian. The people had mixed feelings towards the news. Some were concerned about the king, Lu Youran's health, while some were disappointed that Lu Youran did not die after he was ambushed.

An investigation was being held at the scene of the ambush to find any clues to who the mysterious man that attacked Lu Youran was.

Meanwhile in the servants quarters, Shuan sat in his bed in the room that he shared with his other comrades and under the dimly lit room, he struck the side table in anger

"Ack, why didn't it work out. I planned everything out properly and yet ughh"

His eyes were filled with tears as the contact with the table really had an impact on his hand.

Wiping the tears from his eyes with his sleeve. He said with anger clearly shown in his eyes

"Lu Youran, today was your lucky day. Next time, you will not be this lucky. If only I didn't arrive earlier than expected, my top assassin would have finished you off"

With a grunt, he reached for the telephone on the side table beside his bed and dialled in a number.

The sound of him pressing the buttons echoed through the empty hallway.

He waited for response, but got none. In frustration, he threw the phone against the wall. The sound of the phone smashed again the wall was heard by his roommate.

He opened his heavy eyelids just to see Shuan pacing around the room with anger clearly shown on his face. He was confused at why he was awake at this time of the night

"Hey Shuan, what are you doing awake at this time of the night"

Shuan jumped slightly as he did not expect to hear a voice. He replied, still in shock

"Well, uhh...I was just thinking of how I was going to retrieve my sword that I left at the path that the king was ambushed"

The roommate chuckled slightly

"Is there something wrong with you? Or you can't see anymore?"

He kept laughing

Shuan looked at him confusingly

"What's wrong huh? And what do you mean I can't see anymore? Do you not have any respect for your elder anymore?" He said in a serious tone.

Seeing the dark expression on his face he composed himself and cleared his throat

"I meant that your sword is right beside your bed and yet, you're still thinking of how you'll get it back from that path that had been closed till further notice, due to investigations."

Realization struck Shuan and he begun to laugh as well

"Oh I did not realize that my sword was brought back today" he said while laughing

"Also...Never, I repeat, never question my sanity ever again, understood?"

Realising that his expression had changed drastically, from happy to serious, the roommate nodded in fear

"Yes Shuan, I will never question your sanity ever again"

He said and bowed his head. He knew that Shuan likes it when he is been treated with utmost importance.

He smiled in satisfaction

"yeah, yeah it's fine" Shuan said

His roommate smiled, knowing that he could sleep in peace without any disturbances from Shuan.

Shuan turned off the light, still smiling to himself. Tucking himself in bed, he said

"Goodnight and sleep well'

His roommate was astonished at the fact that he said something nice to him for the first time.

"Goodnight Shuan" he said smiling slightly

Meanwhile in the Lu mansion, Ning Xi was putting Wang Lei to sleep. She heard a conversation going on between Ying Su and Lu Youran in their room. She carefully put Wang Lei in bed after singing a short lullaby to him and headed towards their room.

She stood in front of the door of their room and pressed her ear against it, listening to their conversation

"Ying Su, please I want you to wake me up earlier than usual beca-"

"What do you mean wake you up earlier! You just survived an ambush and is recovering. Now you say you want to wake up earlier when the doctor clearly said that you needed rest for a few days to ensure a fast recovery"

Lu Youran sighed

"You didn't let me finish my sentence Ying Su"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that you didn't finish saying what you wanted to" She deeply apologized

Ning Xi thought to herself

"What could be the reason for Lu Youran to go against the doctor's orders hmmm" she said adjusting her position to hear better

Ying Su continued

"Youran, please say what you wanted to say"

Lu Youran cleared his throat and said

"The chief inspector in charge of the ambush case is coming early tomorrow to hear my side of the story and I am expected to be awake before he arrives tomorrow, understood?"

"Ah I see. I should have listened to what you had to say before I snapped at you."

"Its fine. There's something very important I need to tell you, Ying Su"

At that moment, Ning Xi heard footsteps coming towards her direction. She wanted to stay and listen to their conversation but she didn't want to be caught. She moved from her position and was going towards her room.

Madam Lu was already in front of the door of her room. She turned to Ning Xi

"Why aren't you with Wang Lei right now ? And why are you coming from the direction of Lu Youran's room? Answer me Ning Xi" She questioned in a serious tone
