14 Unlocking the First Class

By the time that Michael returned to his apartment, night had descended. He also noticed that he had a new believer. Well, the only believer so far.

It was that teenager, Rebecca, from the convenience store several blocks from his apartment. Michael did not think it was that easy to convert someone, but then again, Rebecca wasn't exactly religious.

Like most Catholics (and Christians), Rebecca would pay lip service to the Church. Still, it couldn't have been that easy to convert her, especially when she supposedly believed in another higher being.

Perhaps, this had something to do with the absent of Biblical God. The entire Host of Heaven was also missing. Honestly, when was the last time anyone had seen an angel or witness a real miracle? Religion right now was held together by past deeds and blind faiths.

In any case, for him to manage to obtain a believer was good news, as he needed followers, believers, worshippers as well as devotees. There were different grades, and devoted souls were one of the best souls to drawl power from, allowing him to use some of his supernatural abilities outside his Domain.

Michael checked his mana pool, and found his magical reserve was being slowly replenished. Sadly, it was not replenishing at any useful speed. With only one believer at his call, Michael would be able to obtain one full unit of mana in about a year.

In a year!

Would have been much faster if Rebecca was a devotee or higher, but to make her a devoted person would take way too much time and effort. That said, it did give Michael a good understanding of how main people he needed to convert in order to gain any real power.

About 365 believers would grant him 1 unit of mana per day, and Michael could do a lot with 1 unit of mana. Mana, after all, allowed the wielder to manipulate the fabric of reality, bypassing natural laws of the universe.

Of course, Michael liked to have more than that, and as such, he began to think and formulate several plans on how to acquire more followers, believers, worshippers, devotees, and so on.

Followers were quite easy if Michael was a celebrity, but they gave the little rewards. Believers would require some sort of shows and tells from himself, exposing him to danger. Worshippers would require more than a few miracles, and devotees were out of the questions at the moment.

There were higher grades, but that was a different can of worm.

Michael rather focused his energy on the doable at the moment. He had learned his lesson. Trying to do too many things would only end badly.

Obtaining worshippers was, of course, just one of the possible paths towards Godhood. It was not the easiest path, but it was the safest path to take.

For efficiency, Michael would need to form a religion or a cult. Both were annoying at best, but religion was safer. People hated cult since it had a history of self-destructive, oppressive or anti-social behavior that everyone appalled. Not to mention casual mass suicide, which was actually quite beneficial simply due to his Domain.

Those who truly believed in him would allow him to claim their soul upon death. It was morally wrong, but not more so than killing people to steal their soul. At least, with first method, it was more peaceful.

Michael decided to sleep on it.

There was no need to pick an option at the moment when he only had like one believer, and he wasn't even sure why that was so.

He was sure that he did not tell Rebecca to worship him or anything of the sort, unless that was not a requirement, at least for her to become a believer of sort.

After a few more thoughts on the matter, Michael decided to mentally put it away since he would find out the reason eventually.

For now, Michael wanted to take a rest. It had been quite a long day after all, and as he took a seat on the sofa, he had a look at how many models he had collected since midday.

The models were organized into category automatically, allowing Michael to look through them fairly easily. What interested him the most were models belonging to the biological category.

Living things, basically.

Having quite a lot of biological models to spawn into his world, the avatar interface was unlocked, and that was a major gamechanger.

Michael did not such a thing existed until he had noticed the tooltip on several of the models, revealing to him that he could in fact alter his appearance freely.

His current avatar was the body that he was born with, and he could switch that avatar out, replacing it with any other avatar available to him. He would gain all the physical attributes of whichever avatar he chose.

For example, if Michael decided to use a bird as his avatar, he would gain the ability to fly. Likewise, if he used an insect as his avatar, he would be able to fit through almost anything, not to mention being able to climb most surfaces.

In simplest term, the avatar interface allowed Michael to shapeshift. Not into anything that he desired, obviously, but his options were practically limitless.

Michael would love to be able to transform into a dragon. Who wouldn't? Having the power to fly and breath fire would scare anyone shitless. It would also be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, dragons were just myths and legends. Or were they?

Since God did exists, maybe dragons exist as well. He would find out eventually, and for now, Michael decided that being himself was best. Humans were the dominant species on the planet after all.

In the avatar interface, Michael noticed there was a class option. It was blank right now, and when he expanded it, he was given an enormous list of possible classes to chose from. All of them were locked, however.

Once more, Michael realized he knew very little despite granted a lot of knowledge. He supposed that if he knew everything then there would be no point of trying to figure out thing for himself.

Even so, Michael would love to be able to use one of the classes available. If this was a game, he really like to be a mage. Just the ability to use magic alone was exceedingly tempting.

Michael did not notice one of the class became unlocked.

It was the Spellcaster class.
