6 6. Pretend

Swinging my eyes towards the doorway, I felt the warmth leech from my face as fear coursed through me. They found me already? Had they followed my foot prints up to his backdoor? They couldn't find out about him. If they find out what he is, they'll do whatever they can to drag him back to that hell hole.

Arm snaking around my lower back, he pressed me against him as he clamored to his feet. Holding me to him like my weight was nothing to him, he turned off the water and pushed the glass door open. Stepping out, he took a few steps before gently lowering me till my bare feet touched the cool tile. All the while his eyes remained black with murderous intent.

"Don't let them know what you are," I whispered, grabbing his arm when he tried to head towards the doorway. He paused and turned those shocking eyes on me. "They're not normal people. I've been caged up for two years because they saw me shift once. Don't give them any doubt that you're anything but human."

Snarling, his mouth opened to reveal sharpened k9s. "They imprisoned you and then thought to rape you? They'll all die."

He was going to shift. Fuck. How he was able to control himself for the small partial shift was amazing, but I needed to calm him down. I couldn't let his anger be the cause of those people getting their soiled hands on him.

Yanking him towards me, I weaved my right hand into his hair, clenching it to fist a hand full of his wet black strands. Surprise flicked across his black eyes. I didn't give him a chance to think before I pulled him down and went on tiptoe to slant my mouth against his. Running my fingertips down his ridged stomach muscles, he gasped against my lips, parting them. Using that moment, I swept my tongue timidly into his mouth and deepened the kiss while I gently wrapped my hand around his softened member.

He stilled for a heart beat and I almost thought he wasn't going to kiss me back. I was wrong. Groaning, he opened his mouth wider and swept his tongue against mine. He kissed me like I was a meal he wanted to devour. Nipping, licking, sucking at me till my knees quaked.

With each nip and sweep of my inexperienced tongue against his, he lengthened and hardened against my palm. He was warm and throbbing with virtility that made my better instincts sing with praise. When I caught his lower lip on a whim between my teeth, his hips surged towards me to thrust his appendage through my loose grip. He groaned and I felt his hand graze my thigh before he pulled it away, leaving me untouched. I had to admit I was a little disappointed.

Pulling away at the sound of someone pounding on the front door again, I panted softly as I brought my heels to the ground, dropping my hand from his pulsing member. Looking up into his now green eyes, I puffed a sigh of relief. I might have started a flame I wasn't sure I wanted just yet, but he wasn't livid with rage anymore.

"Now grab a towel. You'll go down there looking peeved from their untimely interruption with your woman..."

"Mate," he murmured.

I blinked and tried not to frown as I continued. "...woman. Have your gun on you. No black eyes of anger, nothing to give away that you're a wolf. Please?"

He nodded and gave me a tight smile. "As you wish."

Turning towards the marble sink, he took one of the two fluffy maroon towels he had set on the counter top. Wrapping the large towel around his hips, he tucked the corner in and I couldn't help eyeing the tent his package presented. With his hair wet and sticking up everywhere, his bronze skin glistening with water droplets, he was temptation personified. A treat I wouldn't mind sampling, but just not yet.

"Finish your shower if you like. They won't get a chance to step foot in my house." Reaching up, he gently ran the pad of his thumb across the curve of my jaw, his green eyes almost thoughtful as he watched the movement. "Don't disappear on me, promise?"

My heart thumped hard against my ribs and a foreign feeling made it almost hard to breath. Was he concerned? Was he nervous that I would try to run? Where would I go? Surrounded by woods, naked and injured, there wasn't much options. Was there more to his request?

Nodding stiffly, he turned and walked out of the bathroom without another word. Nerves set in as I listened to his soft footfalls travel through the room and down the stairway. Grabbing the other towel, I quickly wrapped the soft maroon material around me. The huge ass towel covered my breasts all the way down to my knees. Creeping through the room on tiptoes, I stealthy made my way out of the bathroom and through his room to the top of the stairs.

Heart pounding, I strained to listen to what was going on at the front door. Whispering down the stairs on silent feet, I paused a few steps from the bottom and flattened myself to the wall. The Alpha was speaking.

"So you came pounding on my door, scaring my wife, all because you're concerned about a runway at this time of night? It's pouring outside and its the middle of nowhere. Most likely your runaway would seek shelter. There's cliffs and a cave down by the river maybe a half mile to the west."

"My apologizes, sir, we didn't mean to interrupt your night," a high pitched male voice spoke, his voice quivering slightly before he cleared his throat and continued. "The young woman isn't stable and her last whereabouts were somewhere about these woods. If you come across her, please give us a call. She's not well and she can be quite dangerous."

"I'll keep that in mind. Now if you'll excuse me, I have my naked scared wife in my bed that is rather peeved by your intrusion. Far warning though, my neighbors aren't as understanding as I am. They isolate themselves for their own reasons and unwelcomed visitors at this time might have you peppered with buck shot. I would wait till morning to go knocking on anymore doors, if I were you."

Another throat clearing. "We appreciate your advice and we apologize again for the interruption. Enjoy the rest of your wife... I mean night. Oh god."

"Smooth, Gary." A different male murmured before the front door closed with a soft thud.

Sliding down the wall, I sat heavily on the step below me and couldn't help the swarm of emotions that filled me. Fear, anger, disgust, relief. They were gone, but for how long? Did they notice the broken lock on the back door yet? Or did I leave a muddy trail here? Was I worth putting this man in danger? Was I wrong to stay?
