10 Chapter 10

After Nathan and Roxie had come back into the house; Nathan decided to give Roxie her own private tour of the band's house. So Nathan decided to show Roxie the lower main level of the house since that was the main level Roxie was going to be staying throughout the most part of her stay. Now as Roxie was being shown the guest bedroom; Roxie was surprised of how huge the guest bedroom was. In fact the room was probably about the same size as her apartment back in New York.

"So this room is usually used by our personal assistant; which is you, of course. It's not much, but at least you're close to the downstairs bathroom, media room, laundry room and basically every other room that is down here. There is also another set of stairs that goes upstairs, which is meant to only be used by you or any of our other members of my band's management team. Besides that; I think that is everything, unless you want the band's schedule. I can probably get either Calvin or Landon to print a schedule out for you." Nathan told her.

"No; I think I just want to unpack my stuff for right now. Besides; I don't think you boys have a schedule." Roxie said.

"Wow; who would have known that a girl like yourself could tell if someone was lying. That is a pretty good instinct that you've got there." Nathan laughed.

"Thanks; I've come to use that instinct in many ways, especially when it came to my previous relationships." Roxie admitted.

"Well, all I have to say is that I'm so happy I'm not one of those arseholes because I'd be totally nuts if I would even want to consider getting back in a relationship with you," Nathan chuckled. "So; in that case, is there anything I can do for you Ms. Rodriguez?" he asked.

"No, but if you have time can you and the rest of the boys come down to the living room for a mini band meeting? I just want to know what tasks I need to deal with first before I get my hands dirty." Roxie asked.

"Sure thing; I'll go tell the boys right now." Nathan smiled.

"Cool; thanks Nathan." Roxie replied.

After a while had passed, Roxie came out of the guest bedroom and walked towards the living room. Around the same time; Paul, Calvin and Landon were playing video games while Nathan was on his laptop on the kitchen table.

"Hey, look who decided to stay with us after all." Paul pointed out to the other three boys as Roxie was walking into the living room.

"I thought you said you were not going to be our personal assistant." Calvin told her.

"I wasn't, but your buddy Nathan here somehow convinced me to stay and well; here I am." Roxie replied.

"Well; on behalf of me and the boys, we're happy that you have considered staying here as our soon to be new personal assistant." Landon told her.

"Hold on; what do you guys mean by 'soon to be'? Doesn't your manager know about-Nathan, please tell me that you called your manager and that you told him about who is your guys' new personal assistant." Roxie stated.

"Well, I wouldn't put it in that way-." Nathan admitted.

"NATHAN?!" Roxie shrieked.

"Look, if you want to get this job, you're going to have to prove to Scott that you're capable of not only planning out our promotions and appearances but also with helping the four of us out on any given tasks." Nathan explained.

"So you're saying that in order for me to be your boys' personal assistant I have to prove to Scott how I can handle working under pressure?" Roxie restated.

"How good are you writing songs for an upcoming album?" Nathan asked.

"I'm pretty good; it's not one of my best qualities of writing, but I'm willing to take one for the team." Roxie replied.

"Good, because that is the task the four of us have right now while Scott is away on his little business trip. So far me, Calvin and Landon have at least one song from each of us halfway done," Paul told Roxie as he was handing her some song sheets. "Do you think you will be able to get all of the songs done on time before Scott gets back from his business trip?" he asked her. Roxie looked at the lyrics that were in front of her. The songs weren't really that bad, in her taste. As long as the boys helped her out with her writing career, everything was going to be fine.

"This may be one of the biggest challenges that I have ever done in all of my writing experience but as long as the task involves some writing I think I will survive." Roxie sighed.

"So, is that a yes?" Landon asked.

"Yes, Landon; I'm saying yes to helping you boys out in writing your next album." Roxie smiled. Then all four boys started to jump and scream at each other.

As the day dragged on, Roxie spent most of her time on her laptop listening to a multitude of Fifth Avenue Square songs. For the most part, most of the songs had a pop rock, edgy sound mixed with some folk music. However; Roxie realized that most of the band's songs were either about falling in love, a break up or moving on from a relationship. All of a sudden there was a knock on the bedroom door.

"Come in." Roxie said. The door opened and Calvin walked into the room with a tray of food.

"Hey; I thought you might be a little bit hungry so I brought you some lunch." Calvin told her.

"Aww; that's very sweet of you Calvin. Thank you." Roxie said.

"So; what are you doing?"

"I'm trying to get a sense of what you boys want your new album to sound like once you guys release it. So far all I'm getting is this pop rock folk music vibe." Roxie explained.

"Hmm, that must sound like a ton of fun. Can I ask you about something?" Calvin asked.

"Sure; what's up?"

"Ok; so I have somewhat started writing some of my second song that I'm supposed to do so for the next album and I was wondering if you could help me out with the first verse and the chorus?" Calvin explained.

"Yeah, let's hear what you've got so far on the song." Roxie told him. Calvin then opened his little notebook, grabbed one of the band's guitars that was near them and started to sing the song. From Roxie's point of view; the song wasn't entirely that bad. In fact, the song was amazing. When Calvin was done singing, Roxie gave him a little applause.

"Calvin; that song was pretty good." Roxie said.

"Really; you thought the song was good?"

"Are you kidding; that was probably one of the very few good songs that I have heard from you boys in a while. I do have to admit though that there are a few changes that you have to make, but overall I do believe that if you boys have Scott listen to this song; I guarantee you boys that this song will definitely be a hit single." Roxie stated.

"Well; it's a good thing I came to you right now. So what parts of the song do I need to fix?" Calvin asked her. Roxie then grabbed a pen and a piece of paper that was next to her and both her and Calvin started to work on the song together. The two of them worked on the song for almost 2 hours. When the song was nearly finished, Roxie then had Calvin play the whole song on the guitar again.

"Are you sure; I mean, the song is almost finished." Calvin told her.

"Look, the only way you guys are ever going to find out if the songs are going to be major hit singles is if you boys play it out at this point right now. Trust me when I tell you this; my best friend who also happens to be my room mate is a singer songwriter too and she has even come up to me for some lyrical advice. I keep giving her the same advice that I'm giving to you right now so that in the future, for the next few albums that you boys will be making; all four of you can go back to the song and make some changes on your own." Roxie explained.

"Alright; if you say so. Here goes nothing." Calvin said. Calvin then started to sing the song and throughout the performance; Roxie was encouraging him and guiding Calvin in the right direction. Once Calvin got close to the end of the song; he simply added the last part of the song all on his own without any help from Roxie. When Calvin realized what he had done, he looked at Roxie with complete shock and amazement.

"Wow; I can't believe I just did that right now." Calvin gasped.

"See; I told you that this trick will help you finish the song and I've go to say; that ending was incredible." Roxie told him.

"Well, all thanks to you, I'm finally finished with the two songs that I had to do for the album. How could I ever thank you for this?"

"There's no need to thank me. You came to me for some help and I offered it to you with some helpful advice. Besides; helping you boys out with at least one of the tasks you have been given from Scott is guaranteed proof in order for me to be your guys' new personal assistant." Roxie stated.

"Yeah; I guess you do have a point. It's just in the past I always had a hard time with completing an original song because I was afraid that my ideas for a particular song weren't that good enough for the band's image. Now with the help from the advice that you have given me today; I feel more confident within myself to show the other boys what I got for this next album." Calvin told her.

"Well; I'm happy that you came to me for some help, but I also want you to go to Paul, Landon or Nathan for some advice too. You four boys are not only just a band, but also a team and bands that work together as a team gain that encouragement and success in their music career. If you boys stick to that aspect, I am positive that you guys will be a huge threat to the music business." Roxie stated.

"You know; it's a good thing that Nathan found you at this point in the band's career. You seem to always know what to say or do whenever it comes to situations like this one." Calvin smiled.

"Hey, it's like I mentioned earlier; I had a ton of experience with these situations with my roommate. Anyway, I think I'm going to rest for a few minutes. All of this songwriting has made me exhausted." Roxie yawned. Calvin then hugged Roxie and thanked her again and went to the kitchen. When Calvin entered the kitchen, both Paul and Landon were watching some television.

"Hey dude; what were you doing in Roxie's room?" Landon asked him.

"Oh, nothing much; I was just asking Roxie for some advice on the second song I was writing for our next album and by the looks of things, I think I'm the first one to finish with both of my songs." Calvin replied. When Landon and Paul had heard this; they stopped what they were doing and rushed over to where Calvin was standing.

"Holy crap, Calvin; these songs are amazing!" Paul said.

"Thanks dude; and you could thank Roxie for the help. She's incredible at this type of stuff. It's no wonder that she wants to be an author; she's got the talent to prove it." Calvin pointed out.

"You've got that right. Now I want to ask her for some help in my songwriting." Landon admitted.

"Well, it's a good thing Roxie is staying with us for some time because once she gets her writing career started; Roxie will probably be gone before we even know it." Calvin stated. Then Calvin went back upstairs to his room while Paul and Landon rushed over to the guest bedroom.
