39 The World Tree

A horse-sized wolf lunged at Alex who caught the creature by its mouth, the massive canine tried to bite him, but the teen's skin was like steel.

Instead, Alex rammed the wolf into a tree, spine first, which broke the moment the beast crashed into it.

The creature tried to release a painful sound, but the black-haired teen's hand was around its neck which moments later snapped it, killing the beast in the process.

After watching the wolf stop moving he turned around and saw multiple sets of flaming explosions spread out through the forest.

Weirdly enough none of the vegetation ignited...

This mystery still baffled Alex, as he wondered just how much firepower one needs to start a forest fire in this place.

"Well, she is having fun…" The teen casually mentioned how his girlfriend just made several large packs of Wolves explode in fiery glory.

"The magic circle allows her to have a large amount of freedom in magic use, seeing how she already had similar experiences before it's nothing too shocking," Albion said to him while he was finishing off choking a wolf with its serpentine body.

The white dragon was quite casual in how he disposed of his enemies, the serpentine being known how to completely utilise his body to maximum potential, even easily winning against enemies of the same level as current him.

"You are right about that. Still, she is below in the amount spells she has, with prana she had a whole wiki page just for those," Alex remembered the wiki with a chuckle, he still needs to remember the names of her skills or are they called spells?

"Oh, do tell me about how your old world sees this place!? And how big was my 'wiki' page!?" Albion floated towards him quickly and started asking questions.

The teen slightly grimaced hearing that, how much could he explain that this was borderline hentai franchise?

"Well, it did explain quite a bit, less your page was attached with your host, same with Red's," Alex explained with a shrug.

"It did explain how to progress in unlocking [Reflect], and making Juggernaut Drive possible as a proper stage like Balance Breaker."

The Vanishing Dragon slowly nodded it did make sense to him, somewhat, as it was more or less about Divine Dividing and Boaster Gear.

"And of course the next stage beyond Juggernaut Drive."

"The DxD forms? I saw a glimpse of those, nothing too shocking since it was achieved with the help of Dragon God." Albion was not too big on getting help from outside, his pride didn't allow that, but by that point, both Heavenly Dragons already lost their way, thanks to the ultimate pervert who affected both of them!

"Yes, I suppose adding the concept of infinity does lead to the next stage."

"Not quite partner, Sacred Gears continue to evolve according to their wielder, you can achieve such a thing on your own, anything is possible with the right amount of time.

And time is something we have in spades in this place."

The Vanishing Dragon had a point, in this place with falna, he only needed to spend enough time.

"Hmm, does that mean I could unlock Touki too?" Alex had a thoughtful look.

"Given enough time I could help you achieve that, I do recommend finding several books on meditation while asking a Yokai would help too, they are natural at their art, and it would be a similar situation to you teaching someone your Lightning techniques."

Alex grimaced for a second when he heard the last part, he was doubtful he could teach his lightning techniques to someone without killing him or her in the process.

Not everyone has immunity to electricity and can wield it…

"I see. So, I should try doing it myself."

"Both, in here you can try unlocking it, once you do, I can teach what I know after, and if you fail and lose patience then you could find some Youkai in Kyoto, or ask Gremory girl's Youkai to show some tricks." Albion casually said that before getting serious for a second.

"That's AFTER you master Reinforcement."

Alex nodded, he was not stopping until he was going to master Reinforcement. This magic helps him to continue developing his body and muscles to peak condition which would help him to unlock Touki.

In other words, what he is doing right now is preparing for the next thing.

"I know, it will even help with unlocking Touki in the first place," Alex said with an eye roll, as he started walking towards his girlfriend's location.

"Good, I had too many too-excited hosts before, just needed to confirm." The dragon said to him as he started following after him.

The black-haired teen shrugged in return when Albion said that, he immediately remembered Issei while Vali had double the pride and the lust for battle like a dragon until he mellowed down.

At that moment he understood why the Vanishing Dragon said that.

Does the Dragon Aura make one more active? Maybe even hyperactive…

'Well, I haven't noticed anything too weird, except that my eyes wander much more on Julis…' Alex realised that quite quickly…

And his girlfriend noticed that too…

Not that they didn't do anything naughty in a dungeon, as the place is far edgy for that…

Apart from that, he was slightly more brutal with his enemies, does that come from Dragon Aura too?

Eventually, they arrived at the place where his girlfriend was.

Alex's eyes slightly widened as he saw a familiar Obelisk.

'It's here too? We are slightly more towards the west than usual…'

With the help of making the signs from the trees, they were able to navigate more around the forest.

It was Alex who decided this time to cut towards the West, as it was done with the North.

"Does this mean we are close to the centre of the forest?" Julis asked him without even moving her eyes away from the Obelisk.

"Possibly, the previous Obelisk was quite close to the area separating the river from the forest." He said to her as he crossed his hands.

"So, the big tree?" Her gaze went to him as she raised her eyebrow.

"As far as I know the big tree represents the location of the last boss, so it's either locked or it doesn't exist until we beat all four beasts," Alex explained as he put his hand on his chin.

"Quite fascinating, this is truly like a game," Albion said with an excited voice as he floated closer to the obelisk and started to inspect the pictures on it.

"As far as I know this place is 'inspired' by two video games, and possibly more in future."

"Don't forget the myths too, the massive tree is a reference to Yggdrasil and the boar IS the Calydonian Boar." Julis chipped in.

"Those two as well, we should move west for a couple more weeks, if nothing is there, we should return to the outside world." Alex proposed with crossed arms while looking at the carvings on the obelisk.

"I am all up for it," Julis said from the side, she does want to see such a massive tree, the shower which she wants very much can wait for a bit.

Around three days later they finally saw something in the distance.

It was sticking out from the rest of the pine trees like a sore thumb.

More like it was towering above the rest pine trees, casting a massive shadow over them.

While they were still far away they could already see the sheer difference between the heights.

"Such a tree should touch the stratosphere! Is there even oxygen over there?" Julis said with wide eyes as she looked up.

"I doubt we are on a planet, to begin with," Alex said after thinking for a bit.

This made the pink-haired girl's train of thought stop, she realised that what he said was the truth, if they were on a planet then there would be a day/night circle, different seasons… actual climate and weather…

"You are right… I should stop reasoning with this place." She said with a sigh she had already been here for more than a year in total, still, old habits are hard to get rid of.

Alex only chuckled for a second before picking her up and they continued to travel.

While Albion was quite quiet as he observed the tree in the distance.

He can tell that it's not just an oversized tree, no his senses are telling him something else.

'If only I had my true power, I could scan this thing properly!' The white dragon grumped for a moment before following Alex.

A few hours later, Alex finally entered the area where tree branches started to cast a shadow over the rest of the forest.

Never in his life, had he expected to see such a monstrosity of a tree, he knows that the pine tree he is travelling on top of is the size of a skyscraper, which can be found in New York or Tokyo.

But, it's nothing compared to the tree he was looking at right now.

The tree trunk is at least twenty times thicker than the pine tree he finds in this dungeon!

"This... is one of those moments when you realise how small you are in the grand scale of things." The black-haired teen softly said that to his girlfriend. He was in awe, of the sheer scale of this thing.

It was a humbling experience.

"This is truly a replica of the real deal," Albion said from the side, the dragon was extremely serious when he said that.

"Really?" Alex snapped his gaze at the white dragon.

The Vanishing Dragon slowly nodded.

"Yes, now that we are this close I can sense it, still I have no idea why this thing is here.

As neighter of you can gain anything from it, maybe a wand or a staff made from a branch, but neighter of you could gain knowledge like Odin did, or make some life elixir…" The Heavenly Dragon shrugged at them.

The black-haired teen had a deadpan look after realising something...

"The answer is obvious to me…"

Both of his companions looked at him, waiting for an explanation.

"The creator of this place decided that Yggdrasill is the best place for the last boss of this dungeon and same time it serves as a warning to what's to come…"

"What's to come?" Julis asked with a slightly pale face.

"Anything… if the most important thing of Norse myths is used as nothing but a landmark then you can expect anything from this place." He said that seriously while looking at his girlfriend in his arms who finally comprehended what Alex just said to her.

Even Albion who listened in slightly grimaced, he tried to put the maker of this place on a measuring scale when he arrived at this place, but the longer he stayed the higher the scale went up.

Is the guy who made this place just a Random Omnipotent Being?

If this is truly just beginning then about the second or third level of this place? If such a massive place serve just for level 1 and 2 what about level 5 or 6?

Will there be entire worlds created just to serve as a stage for training?

That was the most obvious conclusion Albion came up with, it even excited him, will he regain his real form as his partner progressed in strength?

Will his body grow if Alex is going to reach level 2?

Those were his thoughts as they progressed towards the Yggdrasill trunk.

Eventually, after another hour they arrived a the base of the massive sacred tree.

Alex walked over and touched the trunk, he could feel the tree humming with some sort of power, he then looked up.

Even with his improved eyesight, he could not make up the top of this tree, the only thing he can tell is that there are branches…

Very large branches…

Stretching to all directions…

"Don't overthink, and don't try to make sense either, this tree is supposed to connect the nine realms, which you probably guess this one does not, as it is just a landmark… as you say."

"A real deal which is used as landmark…" Alex deadpanned as he looked at the white dragon, then he looked at Julis who had a dazed look.

"Now that we found it, we know where we will going to face the last boss."

"That means we can start preparing to face the four Monster Rex."

Julis slowly nodded, as she still looked at the tree, she was trying to process that this thing was the real deal! Is it possible to learn Primordial Runes? Or acquire Odin's knowledge?

This thing is an insane tease for someone who craves knowledge!!!
