Detectives stopped by a few days later. They’d found Gary Davies in a bar over in Kingston, so drunk he barely knew his own name. Once he sobered up he’d denied having seen Cameron since his trial for child abuse, “the little shit lied his little eyes out,” but no one believed him. When confronted with ballistic evidence, Gary turned on his two accomplices and pled guilty to attempted murder.

Cameron went to visit his brother about a week after they exorcised Sonneilion. He didn’t tell David what had had happened with the house, of course. Neither of them was foolish enough to think that their communications at the prison were unmonitored. David couldn’t avoid seeing Cameron’s battered state, and while he didn’t approve of Cameron’s lifestyle at all he loved his little brother. “Who did that to you?” he asked. “Some boyfriend? Some queer-basher? You tell me, Cameron, and I’ll make sure they never see the light of day again.”
