3 Awoken

"I- Is someone th- there?"

Before Charles could ask any further, a nurse stepped into the room while looking down at there clipboard. As she looked up, she saw a boy with hazel eyes curiously stare back at her. The nurse's eyes grew big and her mouth opened in surprise. She yelled,"Dr. Colbert, the boy's awake," out into the hallway and went off to get him.

A few moments later, a middle-aged caucasian man with grey hair, wearing a long white coat, walked into the room. He took a chair from the corner of the room and sat next to the bed, giving a warm smile to Charles.

"How are feeling, son? You doing okay?"

"Umm...I feel a little tired but... where am I?"

"You're in the hospital right now. You were suffering from hypothermia and trench foot."

"Hypothermia...trench foot?"

"Basically, you were in the cold for too long and now your body is really weak and your feet need time to heal."

"How long do I need to stay in the hospital for?"

"Around 2-3 months at least. We need to make sure you make a full recovery. For now, I'm going to perform some tests and ask you some questions to see if the cold has affected you in anyway, so do as I say, ok?"

Charles was hesitant, but slowly nodded his head.

"Ok, first of all, what's your name?

"Charles"

"Last name?"

"...I don't have one..."

"Ok, how old are you, when were you born, and what grade?"

"9 years old, born in July 16, 1995, and 4th grade"

Dr. Colbert proceeded to ask Charles some more questions about himself and performed multiple tests to check his senses. The nurse from earlier stood beside Dr. Colbert and rapidly wrote down everything Charles said onto her clipboard.

"Ok, thanks for cooperating Charles. I'll come back later with the people who rescued you."

"What people?"

"Ah, that's right. I forgot to tell you, but two people, a man and woman, saved you and called 911, bringing you here."

"Can I meet them...to say thank you?"

"Sure, I'll ask them to come. Just wait a few hours, ok? And make sure to eat some food, you must be starving."

Charles weakly nodded his head and laid back down onto the bed. The doctor walked out with the nurse and soon the nurse came back with a plate of tomato soup and a glass of water. She hand-fed the soup to Charles and helped him drink some of the water.

"Thanks for the food, Miss."

The nurse smiled at Charles and nodded her head before leaving the room.

Charles laid there and stared up into the ceiling, wondering who it was that had saved him from the bitter cold. Listening only to his breathing, Charles eventually shut his eyes and his head rolled to the side. He silently fell asleep and only his cute snoring sounds could be heard from the room.
