Rising Embers

The Humans of Earth have overcome many trials with surprising resilience and adaptability, however, when they were faced with the ultimate predator, they couldn't adapt quick enough. Soon, the population of Earth dwindled down to a few million as the Earth was overrun by mysterious black portals that kept a steady stream of nightmarish monsters spewing from their dark depths. Just when the Humans had lost hope, an extraordinary child was born, one that could wield the strange powers of the monsters that came from the portals. The rate wasn't a full one-hundred, but the chance that a child was born with similar powers after the first was seventy percent, giving the Humans hope once again. With these new powers, can humanity save their world , or will they fall under the weight of their newfound strength?
