3 Chapter 3 - His Daughter

This particular day had started normal enough. At four in the morning, Grey had stepped into his daughter's bedroom, walking over to her bedside. He looked down at her with a loving expression for a few seconds before kneeling down and placing a gentle kiss on her cheek. Patting her hair, he stood and turned to leave, replacing the expression of a loving father with the expression of a warrior - serious and determined, ready for battle. But this was nothing new. He did this every time he was to go out on his missions. It was his routine.

As he stepped across the threshold, he took a peak back to his sleeping daughter, nodded, and gently closed her bedroom door.

Violet held her breath as she felt her father's presence over her. Though she knew he couldn't see her face, she still did her best to stst still, hoping that he wouldn't realize that she was up. She had made sure to wake up a little early so that she would be awake when her dad came in, after all, who was going to see him off other than her? There was no one else in the apartment they lived in to do so, so that meant she had to. And she was happy to, even if it meant doing it secretly.

When he leaned and kissed her cheek, she couldn't help but smile. These were the best moments for her since her dad never did these kinds of things when she was awake. Usually, he looked like he didn't care, but she knew otherwise, or he wouldn't bring her presents and show his love like this to her. He wasn't the best dad, but in her world, he was the greatest. After all, he was already the strongest, everybody agreed on that, so the next logical thing was to become the greatest dad.

She couldn't help but turn and look at him while he walked out of her room. She waved to him, and whispered to be safe and come home. How was she to know that at that exact moment he would also turn to look back at her?! But instead of getting upset, he simply nodded. She blinked a couple times before smiling big and thinking of how much she loved her dad. Soon thereafter, she fell back asleep.

Around 9:15 that morning, Violet awoke. She sat up, her eyes half-open and yawned, stretching as she did so. She plopped down onto her right side and rolled/tumbled out of bed, clinging onto her blankets so that she wouldn't fall onto her butt. She had almost succeeded when several quick steps came up from behind her and abruptly stopped, followed by a pair of hands grabbing his waist and lifting her into the air. She couldn't help but let out a giggle as she lifted her hands above her head, and for the briefest of moments, she pretended she was flying. But just as soon as she was lifted, she was just as quickly placed down onto the floor. The cold wood floor sending shivers over her body and making her do a little dance. "It's cold!" she exclaimed with a pout, turning and looking at the one who lifted her.

"I know, sweetie. Put on some socks, then the cold will go away!" The voice was gentle and kind, with a slight accent. The woman knelt so that she was nearly eye level with Violet, her black hair flowing over her right shoulder. If a stranger were to look at the two together, he would assume they were mother and daughter, after all they both looked very similar. Violet had cream-coloured skin, with wide Green eyes and black hair. Well, nearly black. There were specks of violet highlights that ran through her hair. Most people would berate her father for dying his daughters hair, but it was actually natural. Why violet and not a natural colour like blonde or brown, he couldn't say.

The woman share similar features. She long black, silken hair that fell just past her shoulders. Her skin was soft and pale, making her ice-blue eyes stand out even more. She was slender, but not thin. Even though she wore long-sleeved upper garments, as well as long pants that were form-fitting, all of which made her curves stand out more, one could still tell her body was well toned. She definitely worked out and kept herself in shape. Her gentle smile would make any man that saw it instantly fall in love (not literally, but their heart rate would definitely increase a bit). It was no exaggeration to say that she was beautiful.

Unfortunately, this 'mother & daughter' were not actually mother & daughter.

"Big sis Dee! Big sis Dee!" Violet excitedly hollered, even though the woman was right in front of her. "Tell me the story of how you and Daddy met again!"

Deirdre smiled softly as she combed the little girl's hair. "Tonight I will, but right now sweetheart, you need to get ready. We're going out!"

"Aww!" Violet pouted and looked to the floor, her little hands balling into fists. "But I wanna know..."

Deirdre let out a soft chuckle. "Now, now, child. Have patience." with some urging, she helped Violet get ready for the day and, after a light breakfast, they headed out into the city.
