Ethan saw that the two men were about to quarrel about the time, and before it could get out of hand, he intervened, "We shall cast a vote. The suggestion with the most votes would then be used as the study year, " Ethan suggested. 

"Good then, let's start," he said calmly, "All those in favor of the five-year time say aye."
