14 Surviving the Odd Drill

Xu Chenyu let out a deep sigh as recounted those days.

How they have managed to survive, was still a question mark in his head. His memories were hazy. Then, he was too young to understand anything.

Maybe, if weren't for his cousins, he may have long been killed.

Later on, Xu Chenyu got to know that the mastermind behind the incident was his own father. Hence, most of his cousins isolated him. His hatred towards his dad and family hence increased day by day.

Xu Chenyu remembered how the kids born with silver spoons in their mouths lived in a small cottage near the seashore. They had bought this cottage after selling their luxury watches and jewelry. That was a small-town area whose population mainly consisted of fishermen and their families

There were around thirty people living in the cottage. It was so congested that they had no bedrooms, only a hall in which twenty-seven people including himself slept.

Their butler, Mr. Feng, and housekeeper Mrs. Feng lived along with them. Mr. Feng slept on the balcony whereas Mrs.Feng slept in the kitchen.

Only Qin Shijin had a room on his own. Rather than calling it a room, he would call it a cubicle. Qin Shijin was seriously injured while escaping and hence was bed-ridden for life. Thus, he had a private room.

The second eldest among them, Shen Yiren was in charge of the family then. She was really kind and caring towards Xu Chenyu. It was due to her insistence, others had let him stay in the house.

Shen Yiren was a doctor. She joined the nearby hospital for finding an earning. The hospital rarely had any patients, hence the pay was really low.

Shen Yiren had a younger brother, Shen Yifan. He was the fifth eldest in the group. He was an aspiring chef. He set up a café on the ground floor of their cottage. Most of the customers visiting the café came there included ladies and young girls who were interested in him. Otherwise, he rarely had customers.

Between Shen Yiren and Shen Yifan, the two cousins, Qin Shixuan and Qin Lina were almost of similar age.

Qin Shixuan worked as the teacher as well as tutored a few students outside the school for an extra source of income.

Qin Lina was a lawyer, who got almost no cases to handle. For her to receive a case was rarer than rain in the Sahara Desert and the number of cases she won was fewer than that. So even though she had a job, it had no pay.

These four were the main source of income for the family.

Life was quite tough then.

Qin Lixin was Qin Lina's younger brother. He was business-minded and had come up with man business ideas during these years. Most of them had ended up in losses.

Qin Shixuan strongly opposed his business ideas, finding them so impractical. While most of the others encouraged him. They were desperately trying to come out of this poverty.

One of his ideas included converting the attic into a bedroom and renting it.

Qin Shixuan and the few others had found this idea so lame. But who would have thought that this idea will be their path out of poverty?
