12 Chapter 12: Family visit

Year 30 BD 1 month

After a few months of planning Aegor managed to prepare for his trip back to Valyria, he made sure to work on the city would continue while he was away so he made to give instruction to the construction site foreman to keep track of the work done and to ensure that all material used during the process. He also asked them to send scouting parties around the area to find any deposits of rock and other useful material for the construction site. And the stewards would go around to make sure to record any issues which need to be resolved till his return.

Also to ensure no foul play happened while he was gone he set up a form of spy network which consists of his little fly golems which acted like little drones going around the settlement acting like security cameras. He would get a live feed of what happenings in the settlement with his dragon glass slate, he enchanted it to make sure to alert and show him a video feed in case of any clashes among the settlers, attacks form the savage tribes, pirates or any other unwanted guest he also linked it up with the barrier pillars around the area to make it more convent. And he also made sure to instruct the fleet captain of the warships to patrol the area and to make sure all unwanted people stay out.

Even though it has been 3 years he has not yet started making trade with the nearby port cities the reason being he didn't have the required numbers to maintain a sufficient naval presence in the area and if some ambitious lord from the south comes it will consume more resources to fend them off. So once he goes back home and brings back more warships, troops and trading vessels to the settlement will he be able to start trade with the nearby regions.

He was not only just going back to visit his home but he also was going back to get more supplies, food, cattle and more settlers. Now Aegor was setting sail back to Valyria he made sure to bring along with him all the 150 Colonizing ships which were used to bring the first settlers and Arrax to help guard the fleet and the other 2 dragons were left back in the settlement to guard it and to act as a means to dissuade would be trespassers.

The Trip back was a long and boring one, just like last time he made the same stops in dragonstone and lys and finally reached home. At the port his family had come to visit him; they all greeted him. " It has been 3 long years since we last saw you son. We have missed you so much." said Aegor's mother after giving him a hug. Then his sister Rhaenyra also hugged him and said " We have all missed you so much brother and wish to hear about your adventures in the new continent." After that he got to meet his younger brother Baelon who greeted him with a hug as well and was eager to hear his stories.

So after the meet and greet the whole family returned back to the palace and Arrax was sent to the cave where all the family dragons are housed. After that Aegor began narrating his journey to the new outpost and that construction of the new Palace has already been completed along with the port. The new settlement is functioning well and it can sustain itself with fish and agriculture. And the more new settlers he brings the more they can expand their control over the continent.

After sharing his story about his exploits Aegor inquired about what had happened in Valyria as he was away. His siblings began, they told him about how their studies were going and how young Baelon had hatched his own dragon. It was a small golden color one he named it sunchaser. His sister Rhaenyra was professionate in her dragon riding and was qualified to ride a dragon for long distances. Then his parents told him about the increase in income form the mines and that thanks to the golems the amount of ores and resources extracted has doubled and the additional costs of buying mining slaves stop only the cost of feeding them remained.

After a nice dinner Aegor was asked to visit his father in his study. So he made his way up the stairs to the study. Once he reached the door he knocked it and heard a voice saying to come in. Once he was in he noticed a lot of stuff in the room. All old artifacts, books, scrolls, maps and a well carved golden heart wood table and chair in the room. Immediately he noticed his father staring outside the window looking at the night sky and suddenly he said " Son, are you sure that we should keep continuing with this project in Nortos. Is it not enough that we have an outpost there and also what are the odds of this doom to take place."

Aegor was a little frustrated at what his father said but he knew that no one would completely believe in such a prophecy since everyone here believed Valyria would last till the end of time and also it would have been too convenient if he did not get some skeptics here and there. " Father I wish it would be false, I wish it was just a bad dream, I wish that Valyria would not be destroyed but these visions are real. Right from the magic sword and ring to the new continent of Nortos it is all real. I believe the gods have given us a choice: in these 30 years we can either perish in this land and be forgotten or we can build a powerful dynasty that lasts for thousands of years". After pausing for a minute he continued " I know this is hard to believe I truly do but we must make sure our family and Valyria live on even when we are in our graves. Even if we are wrong we will still be ruling over a large territory and rule as kings. In a few years one of the Targaryens will have a vision of the doom and they will leave Valyria. I don't ask much but only that you support me".

After listening to his son's words he agreed and " I understand son I will try and support the best I can with whatever is at my disposal". Once that was done they continued talking about how the progress was going and how he plans to move more Valyrian minors, lords, commoners, craftsmen, cooks, brewers, soldiers and a lot more cattle so that they can start fill up the city and surrounding lands and make it more habitable.

Finally his father asked " Son you are 17 name days old. You should be starting to think about marriage. I hope you can think about it". Aegor stood there and replied " I will think about it and let you know". After that he exited his fathers study and was deep in though " I do need to have kids or else I will not be able maintain power and also my return also depends on my descendents existing and sharing my blood". With that though he called it a day.

The next Aegor made sure to check up on the port city and so far no issues after that he spent the following 2 months gathering more craftsmen,builders, construction worker, carpenters, sorcerers, common folk and minor Valyrian houses who are not align with any of the other dragonlord family to come and settle in the city with the promise of new lands and better taxes. And with the help of his thought manipulation skills he was able to get 4 families to join them also he made sure to instruct all his family banners to send some of their own family members join on the expedition and to help them set up their own lands so that once the gradually move there whole household to Nortos they will be able easily settle in with no issues.

After a month the fleet of new settlers and soldiers was ready to go and settle in Nortos. This time Rhaenyra and Baelon decided to join together to visit the new port city along with their dragons. The journey was the same as last time and took the same amount of time except the fleet's stay in Dragonstone few more days compared to the last visit.Both Rhaenyra and Baelon explored it and also flew their dragons over the dragonmount. Rhaenyra's dragon cloud jumper was the size of a jumbo jet and Baelon's dragon Vermax was the size of a bus since both of them were recently hatched.

This time though Aegor made sure to avoid Cannibal and his layer just so that he didn't have to deal with him again. As he was walking the beach he noticed that the castle of dragonstone was in the final stages of the construction and would be completed by the end of the year and maybe ready for it to be taken over by the next lord.

After they spent a few days on the fortress island of dragonstone the fleet continued its journey to the new port city in Nortos without stopping and once they reach the port Aegor check his tab again and made sure to see if everything was okay and once he was sure that the settlement was fine he order all the ships to dock at the harbor and once his ship docked he was great by the stewards of the castle and the commanders and they were all escorted to the castle. Aegor and his siblings were admiring the progress of the city; more houses and shops have been built and the roads have been well paved. While they were getting settled in the castle the rest of the settlers and soldiers aboard the ship had begun to unload all the supplies, cattle, settlers and materials for construction onto the port.

After making sure he got his sibling settled in the castle he made his way to his study. There he had to call a meeting of all the stewards, fleet captain, commanders of the soldiers and foramen to get a full report on the status of the city. Things had been going smoothly so far only some small fights here and there and some small fights which were quickly resolved. Once he received the reports he made his way to the dining hall to join his brother and sister for supper. Both of them were talking about how amazed they were at using indoor plumbing and the convent it is and how they were blown away by the design of the whole. Once they were done with dinner they called it a day and went to sleep.

The next day Aegor continued with business as usual the conducted court in the throne room heard all the plea's of the people reports, current progress of the city. After that he had a private audience with all the small families and banner men to discuss the allocation of lands and allocation of resources needed to set up their strongholds. After a long and trying discussion, lands were allocated to all the families and scouts were sent to the allocated lands to check if they are clear and that they can start clearing the land and begin settling down.

The work around the city and surrounding area was going on without any issues. With the increase in the number of warships and soldiers we can finally start trade with Lorath, Morosh and even the north and not worry about unwanted visitors. After thinking about the North Aegor said to himself, " It's about time I paid my old friend a visit and found out how the night's watch has elevators" while starting towards the west.
