Lightning's Might

Clark noticed the change in Jayce's expression. He saw that Jayce went pale after observing the scene ahead on their left.

'It must be something nerve wracking.. like a pile of bodies and organs scattered around.', Clark thought to himself.

Jayce glanced at Clark and shook his head sideways.

"It's no good. The area ahead is dangerous. But the other exit is on the other side of building, it's far from here.."

Cold sweat poured from Clark's forehead. Mark nudged forward and asked in a hushed voice.

"What's wrong?"

Clark responded with a frown.

"The area ahead is too dangerous. We need to take a detour."

Mark's nodded in confirmation. They slowly proceeded to back up a few steps. However, it seems that luck was not on their side. Trina stepped on shards of broken glass. It produced a crisp sound that echoed through the hallway.

Five hearts simultaneously stopped beating in that single moment. In reply, they heard running steps towards them and goblin shrieks.

Jayce lightly pushed Clark and immediately dashed forward.

"RUN!"

And so, the group of five students ran for their lives. They were being chased by one dozen goblins armed to the teeth with blood still smeared on their face. In the goblins' eyes, this group was a running lump of fresh meat. Blood and saliva dropped down from their mouth while chasing the humans.

"I have an idea. Turn right ahead, Trina!"

Jayce shouted instruction from the back of the group.

Impressively, goblins ran quite fast but Jayce's group was faster enough to maintain a distance from them.

Few meters away on a path that turned right was a narrow one, leading to another building. Jayce plans to eliminate the goblins in a single line while the remaining goblins would be fought one by one.

Jayce stayed in front to eliminate the enemy using his lightning while the other four stood behind him. The goblins rushed towards Jayce seeing that the sword was on the ground and the buckler was the item left on his hands. Little did they know that this was all a trap.

Jayce concentrated and extended both of his arms towards the enemy. Lightning quickly surged from his body rushing to his arms. Chains of lightning flew straight into the enemy group and filled the narrow path. Shrieks of death echoed throughout place and the smell of burnt goblin bodies were nasty to the nose, but that didn't stop the Clark and the others to be awed in amazement.

"That's awesome.."

"I thought he would hack the goblins to pieces but shooting lightning at them also works."

"He can just blast the enemy away everytime we see one."

Seeing a person having an ability was rare but it was accepted quickly because of news reports tackling those kind of topics. After Jayce utilized his ability, exhaustion dawned upon him. The goblins were charred black and they were lifelessly lying on the cold floor. The smell was so bad that Jayce pushed the others to move forward.

"Keep it as a secret to others, okay?"

Jayce told the rest of the group.

"Yeah, sure."

"No problem."

Jayce nodded as affirmation. The group was headed to proceed and exit the university from another building. They were afraid that the ruckus they have caused will invite more goblins to rush unto the scene.

Meanwhile in the open field, the goblin shaman protecting the portal was delivered reports by a goblin scout. It was half kneeling in front of the goblin shaman. This scout was agile and it was considered as a hybrid assasin and ranger class in MMORPG games. It held a bow and quiver on the back, with a dagger strapped to the waist.

"Grand Elder, we found three bodies of our brethren with burnt bodies and aftermaths of battle. They were stripped with their weapons and their blood was spilled all over the place."

The goblin shaman stared at the scout while thinking of possible course of action.

"How many of our brethren are still attacking this foreign building?"

"Around 55 warriors, Grand Elder."

"I will open the portal once again and send the whole legion to venture further. Bowmen and wolf riders will also act along with the scout."

"Yes, Grand Elder. Your orders shall be carried out."

The Grand Elder then faced towards the portal and raised his staff. After chanting for a few seconds, the portal began to open once again and it seemed to vacuum all things around it. The portal vibrated for a while and widened, enough for ten people to walk besides each other.

The goblin legion marched out from the portal. In the front were goblin warriors equipped with bucklers and short swords, spears or axe. In the middle were goblins equipped with a longbow and quiver on their back, filled with arrows that has iron tip.

The last unit to come out was the cavalry, the goblin wolf riders. The wolves they mounted on were three meters long with jet black fur. The goblins mounted on it has a spear on their hand and a short sword on their back.

"Proceed forward and siege the foreign castle.", the Grand Elder commanded.

The legion proceeded to march forward while the goblin wolf riders rushed ahead.

Jayce's group stopped on their tracks because they could hear rumbling noises that were heading towards their direction. However, they dont have a view towards the open field.

"Are those.. sound of marching troops?"

Clark asked with a cold sweat.

"No way, right?... Right?"

Trina asked while chuckling but she withdrew her emotions immediately when the response she saw them being unsettled.

They looked at each other while confirming their gazes.

"It couldn't be the enemy army, could it..?"

Mark asked hesitatingly.

Then suddenly, a sound of horn being blown covered the whole university. This was the go signal to stop and march and instead, charge forward with full fury.

Their faces paled once they heard the sound. Jayce took the lead and told the group, "It is. Let's hurry up and run!"
