56 Chapter 56 : Real World

"No matter how bad things get, something good is out there, just over the horizon."

-----Hal Jordan

Unable to endure the expectation in Alfred's gaze, Jude had no option but to return to the Wayne Building. He found Gotham City Tiresome; the subpar living conditions were secondary, mainly due to the incessant troubles. Whether enjoying a hot pot and singing songs with a girl at home or trying to relax, someone would invariably burst in, point a gun at his forehead, crack a joke, pose a riddle, or instill fear.

Normal life in Gotham was constantly disrupted by these unpredictable events. Jude desired a place to invent securely and without interruption, like his teleportation gun—a crucial device in Grandpa Rick's arsenal. Without it, travel to outer space or other dimensional universes, as well as obtaining rare materials, was impossible.

The inability to access rare materials hindered the creation of many cutting-edge gadgets. To Jude, it was akin to expecting a clever woman to cook without rice. Consequently, he held two persistent thoughts since his foray into this world.

Firstly, recognizing the dangers of the Marvel and DC universe, he aimed to initiate the Phoenix Project. Success would render him generally safe, barring the extinction of the entire planet. In an exaggerated sense, by spreading the Phoenix Project across uninhabited planets in the universe, even if Earth were destroyed, he could be reborn elsewhere. Expanding further, if extended to the multiverse, he could potentially be resurrected in other universes, and so on.

The second goal was to access the real world—not merely travel through previous worlds but reach the true reality. Jude understood that the Marvel and DC universe was like essentially a construct of movies, anime, and manga, a virtual realm shaped by editors and writers. No matter how powerful one became in this world, the whims of the writers could dissolve one's existence at any moment.

The sole means of escaping this control was to reach the real world. This was an arduous task; only a handful of works, such as Deadpool, the Five-dimensional Imps, and Bat-Mite, had achieved it. Even with the prospect of studying them, Jude wasn't overly optimistic.

Upon reflection, he concluded that breaking through the Wall of Origin might be the most viable option. If he could breach the wall, reach the white paper realm of the main monitor, and subsequently transcend the white paper realm, he might stand a chance of entering the real world. However, this process would be protracted, possibly extending beyond his lifetime, necessitating the support of the Phoenix Plan for immortality.

Returning to the Wayne Building, Lucius awaited him.

"Mr. Herbert, I didn't expect you to meet again so soon."

"Yes, are you ready to open your warehouse? The next experiment will be very troublesome. I need a lot of logistics support."

Lucius' expression changed abruptly. "But Alfred told me that you just want to make a healing potion, and Miss Ivy Pepper said that the production process is very simple."

"Uh, that little flower. I'll show her a thing or two sooner or later."

...

The perspective shifted, and within the laboratory, the Owl Council convened.

"Well, regarding Bruce Wayne and Batman, what is the result of your investigation?"

The silver-white masked man on the lower left coughed. "Six days ago, Batman infiltrated the Boris family. Five days ago, he penetrated the Johnson family again. From then on, I suspect he has gathered intelligence on the court members."

"I dispatched the Talons to various members' homes. Four days ago, Batman infiltrated the Longbottom family again. We severely injured him, but he managed to escape."

"Our surveillance on Wayne Manor revealed that Bruce Wayne hasn't shown up for three days."

"You did a great job. What did the Wayne Group say?"

"The Wayne Group announced that Bruce Wayne was on vacation in Hawaii for a week. However, our investigation did not locate him in Hawaii. I estimate that the match rate between Bruce Wayne and Batman's identity is at least 80%."

The old man nodded. "What's your suggestion?"

"I suggest an immediate attack on Wayne Manor. Even if Bruce Wayne isn't Batman, there must be a significant connection between the two, given the presence of the Batcave beneath the manor."

The old man surveyed the other owls and asked, "What are your suggestions?"

After a brief discussion, one of them spoke, "The plan is feasible, but the recent Owl Night has had a detrimental impact. The council has advised us to remain dormant for a while."

The old man tapped his finger, seemingly deep in thought. After a while, he declared, "Execute the plan. This is a crucial moment for the Owl's rule over Gotham. Even if there's a price to pay, it's worth it."

Wells nodded. "As you wish."

...

As night descended upon Wayne Manor, a rustling sound emanated from the grass, and pairs of green eyes materialized. Gradually, dozens of pairs appeared, and these green lights coalesced, transforming into black shadows that surged into Wayne Manor with razor-sharp claws.

Inside the villa, the red alarm flashed urgently.

"Warning, warning, a large number of enemies have infiltrated."

"Warning, warning, a large number of enemies have infiltrated."

"Warning, warning, a large number of enemies have infiltrated."

The Bat Family, Ivy, and Firefly, who hadn't yet rested, were immediately roused by the alarm. Before they could react, the sound of glass shattering filled the air as dozens of Talons breached the windows simultaneously.

Bridget exclaimed, "Be careful, everyone; they're Talons. A lot of them!"

Stephanie was taken aback. The Bat Family had no weapons at the moment, and all their equipment was stored in the Batcave.

"Quick, every one, into the Batcave."

As they reacted, three hooks shot toward her. Damian, swift as ever, leaped off the wall, unsheathed a samurai sword, and deftly severed the hooks.

"Never underestimate any decoration from the Wayne family."

Nightwing pushed Alfred behind him. "Alfred, head underground and take care of Bruce. He can't fight now. Remember what Herbert said?"

Alfred nodded calmly. "I remember very clearly. The Talons are afraid of the cold. You hold them off for a while. I'll activate the defense system. The temperature in the Batcave will drop below zero soon."

"Okay, it's up to you."

With that, Nightwing dove into the midst of the enemy, swiftly neutralizing a Talon and seizing its weapon. Red Robin, Red Hood, and Batgirl improvised with whatever was at hand, engaging in combat with the claws.

Firefly dashed back to his house, returned with a bucket, and flung its contents—a light yellow liquid—into the crowd.

"It's gasoline!"

Before the warning could fully register, Firefly ignited the liquid. Black smoke billowed, and the once-grand Wayne Villa became engulfed in flames.
