Chapter 6: Thermionic Amplifier

"Fucking finally!" Jason shouts, practically dancing around the room, as a small, soda can sized cylinder sits on his table. Taking in the ambient heat and amplifying it to the point the entire room spikes in temperature.

Causing a feedback loop of energy production, that Jason quickly stops lest he wishes to melt in his own home.

For the past few days, he had been working on his first invention in this fuck fest of a multiverse, which he dubbed the "Thermionic Amplifier".

The genesis of the Thermionic Amplifier came from Jason's deep dive into alternative energy sources. During his exhaustive research sessions at the library, he stumbled upon a set of old physics journals that discussed the theoretical concept of "ambient energy harvesting." This concept explored the idea of converting the low-grade thermal energy present in the environment into usable power.

Fascinated by this, Jason began to conceptualize a device that could efficiently convert ambient thermal energy into high heat, which could then be used to generate electricity or power machinery.

His idea was rooted in the enhancement of the Seebeck effect, where a temperature difference between two dissimilar electrical conductors or semiconductors produces a voltage.

Jason theorized that by using a nano-structured material with a high thermoelectric figure of merit, he could drastically increase the efficiency of heat-to-electricity conversion at near-ambient temperatures.

He focused on bismuth telluride (Bi2Te3) alloy, known for its exceptional thermoelectric properties at room temperature.

The key innovation was introducing a dynamic magnetic field that could align the electron spins in the material, reducing thermal conductivity without affecting electrical conductivity.

This concept was inspired by the emerging studies in spin caloritronics, a sub-field of spintronics, which deals with the interplay of electron spin and heat.

The Thermionic Amplifier was designed as a compact module consisting of layered thin films of bismuth telluride, each interleaved with a micro-patterned ferromagnetic material.

The ferromagnetic layers were engineered to create a controllable magnetic field with a simple adjustment mechanism, allowing Jason to fine-tune the electron spin alignment dynamically.

To test his design, Jason constructed a prototype using salvaged electronic components and custom-fabricated bismuth telluride layers. The device was cylindrical, about the size of a small soda can, designed to be scalable and easy to integrate into various systems.

Initial tests were promising but highlighted the need for fine-tuning.

Jason observed that the magnetic field controller needed more precise calibration to maximize efficiency. He spent several nights optimizing the firmware that managed the magnetic fields, integrating a small AI to automatically adjust settings in real-time based on environmental data.

Pulling meta data from various weather API's in real time. Sadly the amount of processing the device was doing required alot of computer power, requiring Jason to strap 4 separate laptops to it for it to function.

He does plan to make a far better set of devices in the future, and integrate a tiny computer in the Thermionic Amplifier itself so it can run independently.

Version 1.4 of the Thermionic Amplifier aka, the current version, was capable of increasing the ambient temperature energy conversion efficiency by over 200% compared to traditional thermoelectric generators.

This efficiency leap was a game-changer, offering a new way to think about energy resources in both terrestrial and extraterrestrial applications.

Jason watches as the Thermionic Amplifier, heats up a small, power generation set up made from easy to find materials. Magnets, copper wiring, a fan to catch the steam, and water that the Thermionic Amplifier heats up.

Turning the entire container of water to steam within seconds all by itself, successfully powering a small LED array from nothing more than the heat in the room, he could power his entire apartment just by placing this thing in direct sunlight.

With the proper scaling, Jason could power whatever he wanted, but sadly, this is just a source of heat, not actual power. He next plans to create something that can harness just heat into pure, usable energy.

He also plans to make a weapon version of this. Which he suspects he can do quite easily, by supplying the device with alot of heat at once, it will amplify it to extreme levels, causing damage akin to a Thermonuclear bomb.

Though, something like that is very overkill in his opinion.

"Welp. I need some fucking sleep." Jason sighs, not having slept in more than a day at this point. He drags his body to the bedroom where he finds Angel watching a movie on her phone.

"Ah, finally done with your nerd shit you loveable goof?" she says throwing her phone onto the side table, as Jason collapses onto the bed, and into her arms.

"You should really stop these no-sleep streaks. They arent healthy." Angel jokes, rubbing his hair, "Tell me that when you stop smoking" Jason fires back instantly, rolling over, onto his back.

"Low blow."

She had long learnt off all the studying and contraptions he makes, and plans to make. He hasn't told her about planning to leave earth for grand adventures with the goal of power, and isn't looking forward to it at all. He has gotten attached to her after all.

Much to his dismay too, he wanted to stay as far from others as possible emotional wise, to avoid having that someone die, which will set him off course on his race to power. Plus to avoid hurting that person if he himself dies.

Having a person that he cares for is a weakness he cant afford. Other him's would take advantage of it without mercy and he knows it.

He just hopes they break up before then.

Cya bitches.

The amount of made up science in this chapter is mind bogling, and the amount of reasearch on random, semi related topics I had to do to make it sound legit is even more crazy.

If I put this much effort into school I would be a billionare right now lmao.
