Letting The World Know

[Reynold's POV]

"It was another new day, a new opportunity to better oneself and I am gonna do just that!"

I was feeling refreshed even though I went to sleep quite late last night. Today we are gonna move all our things from the inn's room to here and officially move into the Helstea house. ' This shouldn't take that much time, should it? after all, we took very few things, the bare minimum that helped us to live through the month-long journey, with us...'

While calculating how much time would be needed to get over the ordeal, I simultaneously carried out my morning deeds. A light workout, brushing, showering and all the other stuff.

By the time I arrived downstairs, everybody was already seated around the table. The maids were setting the breakfast.

"Finally awake eh? come on have something to eat." dad said facing me. It seemed like the "hangover" from the last night was finally down. He was no longer sluggish and whining at least...

" I was already up, just finished with my morning routine" I replied.

"Well, at least you are here now. Eat up Rey" mom said with a smile. "I heard you went to bed quite late last night?" but now, the smile looked not so friendly anymore...

" *cough* ahem... you see... Ellie was still awake... so I was just keeping her company until she fell asleep..." I was sweating a little. Since childhood, mom did not condone me going to bed late. I had always tried to abide by that, but there were occasional violations, as one would expect. But regrettably, the outcome of those violations was not so pretty. Mom would always take me on hours-long lectures on how important adequate and timely sleep was for a growing child and its advantages and results on a child's health. And for all of them, it was the same lecture...

" Haaahh... okay I am letting you off this time, and this time ONLY." Mom glared at me with an ominous aura around her.

By then, I was sweating buckets," Hai mam! I will be careful next time!" The words came out of my mouth as screams and my was hand doing a salute without me even controlling it...

"Oh? are you saying there would be a next time?... " the dark aura became even more intense. I was practically flooding sweats now, my mouth shut tight, not letting me speak anything.

" Come on darling, give the boy a break. He did help Ellie, didn't he?" Dad came to my rescue, throwing me a rope from heaven, '*sniff* thanks, dad! I swear I will never throw you under the bus ever again! and next time you are getting left out from a conversation, I will cheer you up, I promise!' I pledged in my mind.

" It's alright Darlene, we are also thankful to Rey. For him, Ellie was able to go to sleep faster. So, it would also make us feel good if you did not scold him very much" "UmU! UmU!" Aunt Alice also sent a lifeboat and uncle Reynolds just nodded away...

"*sigh* fine, if you guys say so... Eat up Rey, we will be going back to the inn bring our stuff here. So behave when we are out, okay?"

"Hmm? I will not be going with you?"

" There aren't that many stuff, so you don't really have to go... what? do you want to come with us?" mom asked.

'Thinking about it, I had something to do. So, it would be good if I could stay...' "Nope! I will stay!" I confirmed.

" Okay then. Alice, Tabitha, can I ask you to take care of him till we come back?" mom asked aunt Alice with a hint of worry.

" Sure, no problem Darlene. In fact, I would love to spend some time with him. He reminds me of my son, he is also mature like him..." Aunt Alice said, the last part with a tone of longing.

Aunt Tabitha just nodded with a soft smile.

"Thanks, you guys!" mom replied with her worries now lifted considerably.

"Don't mention it!" Aunt Alice also replied with a smile.

'Such good friendship...' I thought in my mind.

We were currently at the front door. Mom was kneeling in front of me, worry and uneasiness evident in her expression.

"Okay honey, we will be back in a moment. In the meantime, listen to the adults and "behave" okay? I want to come back and listen to how good of a boy you have been. I know you are calm and all but you do act up sometimes, don't you?" Mom said, with an emphasis on the 'behave'.

"Okay!" I said as I wasn't really looking to get into trouble... at least not a major one...

"Do you promise?" mom asked for confirmation.

"I promise!" I lied through my teeth. ' you are gonna be shaken once you come back, for sure... but it's gonna be the good kind of shake...' I added in my mind.

" Then you better keep that promise, son. Otherwise, even I wouldn't be able to bail you out of this." Dad said from behind mom.

" A-hahaha... yeah" I stopped myself from gulping to not look suspicious. but I think that stutter in my laughter gave me away. 'Mom scrunched her eyes... am I busted?'

Fortunately, mom stood up without questioning me any further. I give out a hypothetical sigh.

"Okay Rey dear, we are off then. And as I said, don't cause any troubles for your aunts, okay?"

"Okay, mom!... Oh! and bring me something!" I yelled out behind them.

"sure honey~ take care~!" Both of them waved their hands as they were getting smaller and smaller.

I stood there until they were out of sight before turning back towards the house...

" Phew... I have two hours max to accomplish what I want to do... HuHuHu... I guess it's time to come out of the burrow and let the world know... THAT A GENIUS IS BORN!... man! they are gonna be so surprised when they are back, I can't wait to see their expressions!!!" with my monologue I walked inside the house.

I was in the yard, sitting on the soft velvety emerald grass in a lotus position. I had my hands in Shikamaru style, positioned under my solar plexus. It was a gesture that helped me concentrate my mana inside my mana core.

Currently, I was trying to replicate the explosion that occurred when one awakened as a mage. I had to say, it was excruciatingly hard. It was near impossible. If one didn't have my level of mana reserves, it was completely out of the question.

I concentrated a stupid amount of internal mana in my mana core. The orange core shined with even more brilliance. The pressure was so huge that I could feel the core shattering if I went any further.

When I reached my limit, I let a portion of the mana out in a spontaneous burst, creating a disturbance in the ambient mana which was severe enough to have gusts of wind rolling outwards with me as the epicentre. The grass blades swayed like deeply rooted trees would in an unmerciful storm, not willing to let go.

' Not the effect I wanted...'

Beads of sweat were rolling down my temples. It was painful enough to do it even once but I didn't even get the desired result...

Gritting my teeth, I gave it another try, but with the same results. I was panting by now, I had already tried it four or five times but it all ended with a mere gust of wind.

I concentrated mana in my core for the last time and endured through the pain that came along with it.

Holding my breath, I tensed my muscles and let the stored mana out, all at once... all the mana came gushing out as if a dam had been opened.

With all that mana, I moved the ambient mana around me with an instantaneous displacement, sending a roaring shockwave, rippling through the surroundings.

The blades of grass that withstood the earlier shockwaves like brave soldiers were flung away with the very soil holding them, not being able to resist, in the slightest.

But the shockwaves were not satisfied with just that, they continued roaring outwards, pushing everything away from me. The ground.... trees.... plants.... none were spared. Finally, after shattering all the windows of the mansion that were facing this way, they calmed down, dispersing away in the fleeting wind.
