Assassination attempt

"Damnit we'll remember this!"

"Hmph, you're all welcome to try anytime." A brown-eyed boy said to the already retreating goons.

"Man~ there's no end to them, it's already the fourth group today. Don't they ever learn?" He grumbled after the figures are out of sight.

"I'm afraid they won't be the last, after all, they are just replaceable pawns." Commented a green-eyed blondie beside him.

"Well whatever, let's just finish our business and get back to the academy." The brown-eyed boy said as he starts walking down the street grumbling to himself.

"Lucas you have no right to complain as you brought this to yourself." The Blondie said.

"What did I do wrong?" Wearing a wry smile Lucas scratch his head.

"You glued the stupid prince to a chair in the cafeteria, not to mention there are hundreds of people watching him rip his pants trying to get up." The Blondie rubs his forehead, feeling a headache coming.

"Come on it can't be that bad, I mean everyone was laughing."

"Yes, at him."

"Let's just forget it, if there's more goon I'll just take care of it. So who should we bring the lunch box to again?"

The two continue going down the street discussing their current request oblivious to two men in gray cloak following them.

At an intersection one of them broke off to another path, in front of them, their targets are handing a package to a man by a street stall.

As they got closer, they pulled out a dagger from underneath their cloak and increase their pace faster and faster until they broke into a sprint.

The Blondie felt a bad premonition and barely catch a figure rushing towards them at the corner of his eyes as he pushed Lucas out of the way.

Lucas's eyes went wide not just from being pushed but also because he sees his friend being a stab in the chest.

Scream and cries of terror resound around them as the blonde boy falls to the ground in a pool of his own blood.

"Elea! You bastard!" Jumping to his feet Lucas slash at the cloaked figure with a quick draw but the person easily evades it. He was about to follow up with thrust but caught a glimpse of light by his right side.

He swings his sword and manages to party a crossbow bolt, up on the roof he sees another cloaked figure reloading their crossbow.

The little distraction cost him a lot as the other assailant swing their dagger and manage to land a deep cut on Lucas's left shoulder.

Lucas tries to counter with a horizontal slash but the assailant quickly ducks and slap their dagger at his sword arm.

Lucas jumps back just in time to evade a bolt passing where his head is moments ago, he takes a glance at the long bleeding cut across his wrist before taking a glass flask filled with a thick green liquid from the brown leather sack by his waist.

He bit and uncorked the vial before spitting it away than drink the green liquid. After finishing it he threw the vial away and readies his stance, he doesn't have to look to know his wounds are already healing.

Seeing the surprised reaction his opponent have Lucas let out a grin, never expected a commoner to have healing potion did ya, he mentally mock before charging at the cloaked figure.

The back and forth resume as he strikes, counter, block and parries strikes and bolts from the two assailants although this time he fares better as he gets more and more accustomed to his enemies patterns.

The man with dagger felt annoyed and wronged when he takes the contract his source tells him it's just two no-name commoners. It was supposed to be easy money but the boy in front of him had taken out a fourth healing potion, something that is impossible for a commoner to have in large quantities.

Not to mention his and his partner attacks making less and fewer hits against him as if with every exchange the boy grows stronger. Frustration started to well up in him as he is hard-pressed on time before the guards arrive and also from seeing the boy keep glancing to the side and grinning happily.

He decides to take a risk and dash towards the kid, as if reading his mind his partner shot another bolt of an arrow leading the kid to parry it.

With the kid's guard open he positioned his dagger in front of him preparing to stab him in the heart, he felt that finally, this stupid struggle is over that he would get the money he was promised to. He could already imagine the drinks and the woman he could pay using it.

Never he had imagined his last step to be interrupted, something has struck his leg and throwing him off balance, by the time his brain catch up to what happened he was already too close, too off balance to maneuver. The last thing he saw was the metallic glint of the kid's blade.

After chopping the first assailant's head Lucas quickly stands between Elea and where the archer was, intending to protect him but when he looked up the archer is already nowhere to be seen.

In the distance he could hear the metallic clink of the guard's boots, suddenly feeling his legs going soft he plops down on his back and let out a sigh of relief.

"Nice throw buddy, you really save me there," Lucas said as he turns to look at his side. There Elea laid drenched in blood while weakly lift his hand giving a thumbs up.

"How's your wound?" Elea smacks his lips to answer his question. "I see, good then." He doesn't need detailed explanation since he already got it, one word 'delicious'.

Why is that? Because the potion they have is unlike normal ones. The usual kind would taste bitter but the ones they got from their alchemy crazed friend taste like apple juice.

"Should we share some with the boys back at the hideout?" Hearing this Elea just lift one hand then put it back down, do whatever you want huh... Well, I'll share it then, the drawers in their room are full of them anyway.

"I wonder how he is right now..." His muttering drowns out by the guard captain voice giving out commands to the troops.
