3 The Black Note

The class drifted on what felt like ages like any bored teenager would say. But it seriously felt like 3 hours I was sitting there reading and listening to the book. We made it to page 335 and if that didn't tell you how long we were in there for I don't know what would.

I plunge my binder and book into my backpack and ready myself for the bell when I pull out the black note again and the message was gone. I flipped it over to see if it was still written and just looked at the wrong side but it's definitely gone.

What did it say again? "I've been waiting for you. Meet me at the back of the school after lunch." That statement sent chills down my spine. Who was waiting? Why were they waiting? Why me?

The blaring of the bell dragged me out of my thoughts as I sling my backpack over my shoulder and rush for the door. I squeeze past my classmates and head to my next class which was Math. I never cared much for math, wasn't my best subject, but I have an A at least.

The words on the note repeated in my head over and over and over. Taunting me. Pulling me into the temptation to see who it really was that was waiting for me.

I had no clue, to be honest. I was always a thrill seeker but this? I wasn't much of a fan of things that were of the unknown. I stride into my math class when I spot another good friend of mine, Ashley. She stumbles over to me with her glasses barely perched on top of her nose, threatening to fall off her freckled-filled face.

"Jade! I heard you kneed Thomas in the balls! You're crazy! But so coooool!!!" She cheers into my face, shaking my biceps along with my body back and forth.

I scratch the back of my head and give a shy smile. "Well yeah didn't want this freshman to get bullied by some jerks. Taught him a lesson." I replied while Ashley looked at me with awe. Even though she was slightly taller than me, she always acted like a little kid. Really adorable in my opinion.

The minute bell rings when Thomas strolls into the room confident but the moment his eyes land on me he makes a gesture towards his balls but quickly takes it back. He makes his way to his desk and flops down into it and I huff in response to his entrance. Serves him right.

Mr. Peters walks into the room and closes the door behind him and walks over to his desk picking something up before walking towards me. "So, Jade, I heard about you and Thomas had a run in not too long ago hmm?" He starts before leaning close to my ear and covers the exposed part with his hand to hide his lips when he spoke. "He deserves it." He added with a smirk and I blush in embarrassment before smirking back with him then we turn our gaze onto Thomas who was giving his victorious face whenever he tattles to the teacher.

We both laugh together and that grin instantly turns to a pout when his plan to rat me out didn't work. Even though I don't like Math, I loved my Math teacher like a best friend. He was the Gamers Guild organizer and he would lead our sorry excuse of a party down the treacherous road of D&D. He was great; we would spend hours and hours talking about video games, movies, and tv shows galore.

The final bell rang to initiate class and Mr. Peters straightens up before clearing his throat as if none of what happened, well, happened. "Class pull out your notes and start writing these formulas down while I pass out a worksheet." He declared before he picked up a stack of papers and handed them down the row.

I pull out my notebook and start jotting down the notes when a piece of paper hits the side of my head. I grumble looking at it while it sat on my page before me and quickly looked around the room to see who threw it. And from the corner of my eye, I could see the guilty pleasure from Thomas's face and scowled at him. I picked up the wadded piece of paper and opened it to have it read: "B***h, you'll get your payback for kneeing me in the balls. That ass will look red as an apple when I'm done with it."

I narrow my eyes at the words before turning my head back to Thomas who had a devilish smirk spread across his face. I gave him a death glare in return he swiveled his head back around to pay attention to Mr. Peters. I decided to do the same while I waded the piece of paper again and set it aside.

Boring notes once again and another worksheet to scribble on. I finish my work and put it back in my binder when another notecard appears inside of it. How do these keep getting into my backpack? It burns once again and I read it as it engraved the paper.

"Look outside the window, Jade." I go wide-eyed and turn my head toward the wide paned glass to the left of me and see a figure behind one of the many trees that spread along the south side of the school. I blink once and he disappears and so does the letters.

I feel startled, attacked, threatened, exposed...frightened.

Mr. Peters calls my name waving his hand in front of my face while I space out in my head. "Jade! Jade!! Hello?! Anyone in there?!" He calls out and I blink rapidly to look at him with fear-stricken eyes and I think he notices.
