10 Bolts and Chains

Martha takes me by the wrist and practically hauls me down to the basement or cellar as he called. I made a mental map in my head the route to the cellar from his office just in case I would be able to get out. I thought about it for a moment and realized he just made getting out of his house much harder. If I was going to be locked inside a cell then I would need to cut or pick my way out of it. Now if I was chained in a cell I would have to get out of the chains and the cell. I would preferably just be chained to a wall so it would be slightly easier but then again it would be easier to get out of a cell since I would be able to move without the chains restricting me.

While I was lost in my thoughts, two other vampires pulled me into the middle of the cellar and latched wrist and ankle restraints to my limbs and bolted them to the ground. When the clank of the bolt being pegged into the cement is when I was pulled out of my worried accusations. I widen my eyes when I lift my hands to see the shackles and down to my ankles. I tug and pull at the chains and sigh sitting on the ground. I should have paid more attention.

A few moments later, footsteps start coming down the corridor and Sebastian comes into view from the darkness. The singular lightbulb that was suspended from a black cord lit up the room in an eerie off white color. He positions himself so that his eyes couldn't be seen and the light from the bulb cast shadows upon his face.

"You haven't fully run out of luck in escaping this house. Each lock around your wrist and ankle is a slidable puzzle. If you figure it out then I'll be convinced you aren't dumb enough to continue being my blood slave and become a rightful guest in this house. Martha will continue to bring you food and water but don't expect much."

And with that, he was gone in an instant and was left to my thoughts again. I take a better look of the cellar and it wasn't filled with mold or bugs it was slightly tasteful. Cement everywhere like any other cellar. Wine cases line the walls and kegs supported upon wooden racks and a large fridge. Curiosity got the best of me to investigate the fridge to see what was inside. I checked if the restraints would let me walk that far but I was disappointed. The more one side moved out it would pull the opposite side closer in so I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Just as Sebastian said the shackles did, in fact, have sliding puzzles on them. Studying them and noticing that it was a ball maze puzzle she thought it would be easy. Pondering why it would be hard for people to get out, even for a slave.

I try sliding the knob that was connected to the ball within the small maze on my wrist through the slots. Navigating it through the different paths and curves on the shackle was a bit tricky but finally, the lock clicks when the ball reaches the middle of the maze. One down, three to go.

Within the hour the shackles were in a pile around my crisscrossed legs. I rubbed the areas where they clamped onto my limbs to ease the pain they caused. I slowly get up and walk over to the fridge to see what was stored inside. Finally able to satisfy my curiosity.

I clamp my hand around the handle of the door and the smell of fish and frozen meat fill the cellar once the door was ajar a centimeter. I peek around the side of the door and the smell gave away what actually was inside. My expectations dropped once I saw the mounds of frozen food inside the massive freezer. The thought of being blood was expected and in result, he would have lied about the whole month feeding statement.

Sighing with disappointment, I close the refrigerator door and look about the room once more. Going upstairs was my only option to further progress my attempt at escaping but one thing that did come to mind was a possible basement hatch that some houses have that lead outside. Inspecting the ceilings and along the rims of the walls to see if there was any possible sign of a way up but to my conclusion there was none. Up the stairs it is.

Step by step as carefully as I can, I slowly make my way up the stairs. The creak of the wood was giving me away and every now and then I would curse in my head when it made more noise then I could possibly imagine a wooden board about the size of a cabinet shelf to make. Just when I thought I was in the clear, clearing of a throat could be heard from behind me. I swivel my head around like I just lost my mind in a whirlpool and land my eyes on the master of the house. Not the person I want to see right now. Was half expecting Martha to be standing there with the pair of handcuffs again but to my avail it was Sebastian and a sense of relief went through me when no signs of cuffs were in his hands since they were firmly tucked in a crossed arm position.

"Well, that took you long enough. Are you hungry?" He asked in a quiet and calm tone before brushing past me with a smirk. A huff flew out of my nose in an unintentional manner and immediately regretted it but he paid no mind in my reaction. He carried on and I was left with my thoughts as to what was his triggers and what was really happening in his mind.
