First Regression (1)

Alex awoke with the lumpy terrain he calls a mattress against his chest. The pain gone, but a level of dizziness remained. "Where am I?" Alex pondered as he forced himself to get up.

"Oh right.. its orientation day. But what the hell was that dream?"

As Alex got up, he tripped. He subconsciously shifted his weight to the right side in order to compensate for his weak leg.

"Why.."

Suddenly, Alex came to his senses and realized what had happened. He remembered the cold, robotic voice he had heard before his demise.

"What was it.. [Infinite Revival]?"

This phrase resonates with Alex, in a way difficult to describe with mere words. His body vibrated and he could see a faint glow throughout his body.

[Activate Now? Y/N]

"I should have just stayed in bed" Alex thought to himself seriously.

Why did this happen to him out of all people? Alex yearned for a peaceful college life, a fast work life, and early retirement. What right did an apocalypse have to take that away from him.

But of course, after careful consideration, he clicked Yes.

"Hey! Who are you to call me jobless?! Damn system."

While Alex was quick to complain, he quickly studies his status. As for the basic stats, one could easily presume what they mean with a glance. But luck? That could mean anything.

"Shit..... at least provide me with some sort of explanation." Alex groaned in frustration.

[NOT AVAILABLE IN THE BETA]

"Motherfu.. DID I ASK TO BE IN THE BETA?"

The system then responded by not doing so. The awkward silence was enough to humble Alex, albeit for a short time.

"Now for the fun part I guess.. what stats do I invest in?"

[STAT GUIDE NOT AVAILABLE IN THE BETA]

"....this damn system doesn't know when to quiet down. If I don't want a repeat with what happened this morn.. last regression... then I need to invest in strength and agility, at least until I can beat one of those zombies."

Alex proceeded to add 6 to DEX and 4 to STR evening his stats a little more. While its not a good idea to balance stats in the long run, right now his stats are little more than pitiful. If the average human has 10 in every stat, Alex is simply too weak.

Alex felt a burst of power all throughout his body, causing him to have a new sense of pleasure he has yet to feel before. Though unlike the usual kind, it was more of a fulfilling happiness, like he gas gotten closer to some grand goal laid out before him.

While Alex is stubborn to a fatal degree, he isn't an idiot. Alex remembers he has a notebook and pen to use to generate a plan.

A map of the school would be handy, but Alex has yet to decide if he wants to stay in the death trap that will come. As of now, he has a fundamental lack of information required to survive. How far has the virus spread? Alex wracked his brain for about an hour before the intercom yet again sounded the trumpets of his death.

[ATTENTION STUDENTS: THIS IS NOT A DRILL, LEAVE YOUR SEATS AT ONCE AND RETURN TO YOUR DORMS]

[ATTENTION STUDENTS: THIS IS NOT A DRILL, LEAVE YOUR SEATS AT ONCE AND RET..]

The familiar click of the intercom signaled the end of the warning, not a single change to Alex's last regression.

Alex had a temporary goal: Survive

Even with a revival skill, it was completely useless if he couldn't even survive the school grounds.

"Here we go again" Alex said with a confident smile despite his.. arrogance... in the first route.

The muffled sound of a car alarm soon reverberated outside Alex's window, the crunch of broken glass after.. followed by a terrible scream that sent shivers down the spines of anyone within earshot.

+3 Experience had been added to [Mental Fortitude (Inferior 3/10)]

"I see" Alex muttered, "Isn't leveling too easy though?"
