3 The Demon Gu Yue Fang Yuan

Chi Yan followed a family servant to the village square. On the way and on the final destination he was approached by a few teenagers appearing to be the original Chi Yan's friends or acquaintances.

It was likely that Chi Yan had these people's company in the first life, if there was a first life, so Chi Yan decided to keep these teenagers by his side for now and didn't chase them away, no matter how much he wanted to do it. However, he only greeted them briefly and told them that he didn't want to talk today, not making any small talk with them that could reveal the gaps in his memory.

The other youths appeared obedient, didn't make a fuss and only accepted his request.

Along the entire walk through the village, Chi Yan unfortunately didn't see any people blatantly pointing toward Fang Yuan and talking about him.

Given that the Chi family estate was located in the high-class district of the Gu Yue village, Chi Yan guessed that he simply might not cross paths with Fang Yuan and Fang Zheng, if they even existed.

On the way the one attracting the most attention, in fact, was himself.

Noticing various women young and old clearly looking at him with clear expressions of amazement as if he was a prized jewel, caused Chi Yan to feel a little hot inside. Meanwhile, the young boys and men looked at him with jealousy and envy.

At that moment Chi Yan had a feeling. So what if he has high chances of his body exploding in a few years or First Gen Gu Yue might suck him dry from blood when he finds out about his aptitude? Having an Extreme Physique felt great!

When Chi Yan and the others entered the village square with tens of other teenagers, one of Chi Yan's friends pointed with his chin and said, "Look, it's Gu Yue Fang Yuan."

Hearing these words, Chi Yan felt his heart skip a bit. Not out of love though, but out of sudden shock.

Chi Yan looked toward the indicated direction. With anxiety and thrill, his eyes landed on a very particular duo of twin boys.

The two boys both had short-medium length black hair on top of their heads and stood next to each other. They had very ordinary and plain-looking faces that would normally cause them to be easily lost in the crowd, yet, despite their ordinary appearances, there was a half a meter empty radius around them and no one dared to approach them, with countless onlookers gazing at them and gossiping.

One of the twins wore an exquisite embroidered robe, having an expressionless and cold visage, standing with a straight posture.

The other twin's appearance was nearly identical, but he appeared somewhat shorter. The robe that wore was slightly worn-out robe and seemed a bit too big for his thin frame. His posture was slouched and his gaze directed downwards, his expression gentle, meek and lacking confidence.

'The first one should be Fang Yuan, while the other Fang Zheng…' Chi Yan thought.

"Hmph. Fang Yuan looks as arrogant as ever, as if he doesn't put anyone in his eyes. Do you think he'll really have an A-grade aptitude?" one of Chi Yan's followers asked next to him.

"Heh, obviously," another said matter-of-factly. "Everyone in the village is talking about it. Do you think the elders of our clan are vegetarians? But then, Boss Chi Yan should have A-grade talent as well!"

The boys then looked toward Chi Yan with faces full of admiration or envy. They were all related to the Chi faction and were aware of the countless rumors about Chi Yan's early intelligence and outstanding talent.

Chi Yan faintly smiled upon hearing the praises of the boys who appeared to be his minions. After a moment, he crossed his arms and his expression filled with pride and confidence, as he recalled that he should appear more like a young master.

With Chi Yan's eyes quietly gazing and observing Fang Yuan, Fang Yuan himself suddenly turned his sight toward Chi Yan and his group.

Fang Yuan's face was expressionless and cold, and his dark eyes stared with chilling coldness at Chi Yan. A faint smile appeared on his face, as he thought, 'This Gu Yue Chi Yan person is also quite interesting, having outstanding cultivation talent. Seeing that observant and weary look, he probably thinks that I'll be an A-grade talent and is interested in me.'

Fang Yuan recalled previous life. When it was revealed that his talent was only C-grade, Gu Yue Chi Yan ridiculed him a few times, but didn't care about him for the most part. It was mostly the other students that bullied him and made his life difficult.

Because of Chi Yan's lucky circumstances, Fang Yuan envied him a lot in the first life. However, after all of his experiences and rebirth he was now completely indifferent.

'Huh, this person has his secrets and will later play a major role during the wolf tide, but as he doesn't get in my way in this life, then he can do whatever he wants. I don't need to care about him.' Fang Yuan thought indifferently.

However, if someone tries to prevent his pursuit of Eternal Life, then no matter who it is, he would kill and live through it.

Seeing Fang Yuan's deep abyss-like gaze directed at him, Chi Yan felt a lag in his breath for a moment. Was Fang Yuan reborn or not? To Chi Yan, that indifferent expression and cold eyes that looked at him as if he was a mere passerby said it all.

At that moment Chi Yan felt quite certain - it's the second timeline, Fang Yuan regressed from five hundred years in the future!

When the truth was revealed, when Chi Yan found out that Fang Yuan is a demon reborn from five hundred years from the future, he felt breathless for a moment. Then his heart suddenly filled with a mix of anxiety, uncertainty, fear, but also excitement and thrill.

For some reason, under Fang Yuan's cold stare, Chi Yan grew more and more excited with each passing moment. Fire-like determination rising inside of him was slowly overwhelming the feelings of fear.

After a while, despite the nervousness, Chi Yan let out a sigh. 'So Fang Yuan is reborn after all. The road to the future will be interesting indeed…'

Even if Fang Yuan turned out to be a reborn monster and the future's greatest demon, Chi Yan had no plans on standing aside and wasting his chance of coming to this world. He must stubbornly find a way, survive and create his own path.

Chi Yan saw Fang Yuan slowly retracting his gaze from him.

His minions were bad-mouthing Fang Yuan in envy, but he ignored them. A powerful feeling of anxiety and thrill remained, but he already started thinking rationally.

He already thought about things even before he transmigrated while reading various RI fanfictions and day dreaming. In a way he was prepared and he also thought about his future a lot yesterday night.

This is a world in which Fang Yuan had regressed using Spring Autumn Cicada. If Chi Yan as a transmigrator simply played along with the original series of events and did his best, then even if he luckily survived and became a powerful Gu Immortal with an Extreme Physique, then he would still get ridiculously outscaled by Fang Yuan around the time of the destruction of Fate Gu. In comparison to Fang Yuan and the true powerhouses of this world that would begin to revive left and right along with the Venerables that have their own super forces and millenias of accumulation, he would be nothing but a speck of dust!

Even if Chi Yan managed to gain some of the opportunities for himself and luckily became a Gu Immortal around the same time as Fang Yuan, the things that Fang Yuan would receive, along with the help of Heaven's Will and the Venerables, are simply too much for anyone to compete with!

In comparison, Chi Yan would be simply an average powerhouse.

There was the matter of wild Rank 9 Fire Gu residing in the sun, but Chi Yan would first need to survive and get to the point when he would have a chance of subduing it.

As it is, he was bound to be 'mediocre', even if he lives through the chaotic times that are about to begin and gains some opportunities for himself.

Because of that Chi Yan thought of an alternative.

Fang Yuan was nurtured and guided by Heaven's Will, as well as the Venerable's thousands of years plan. If Fang Yuan, the Heaven's Will pawn and the Otherworldly Demon with the heart that yearns for Immortality, somehow died, somehow, then Heaven's Will would have no chance but to search for a replacement.

This was his chance!

There was no guarantee that Chi Yan would be chosen to be nurtured by the Heavens, but if he did nothing, then there was no doubt that he would miss an opportunity of a lifetime!

The five centuries of experience, growth, challenges, opportunities and protection that Fang Yuan received from Heaven's Will were simply priceless! It was a road to becoming a true Immortal.

If Chi Yan only took the initiative and plotted against Fang Yuan using his novel knowledge, then he could easily get him executed by the clan for his crimes or other reasons. Then if Fang Yuan truly died, Heaven's Will would need a replacement.

'Although Fang Yuan is an incredible person and is very dangerous, I can't think of him as an invincible god. No matter how monstrous, he is still of the human race and at this moment he's incredibly weak, a child about to begin his cultivation…' Chi Yan thought in his heart.

As Fang Yuan said it himself - this is a world of Gu, without Gu worms even a mountain boar could take his life.

Chi Yan could think of at least several schemes that would easily end with Fang Yuan's death. How silly, he didn't even need to face Fang Yuan himself.

'Fang Yuan is incredibly perceptive, skilled and cunning. Once he finds out that I'm an anomaly from his first life, he would also surely want to find out more about me, using not so pleasant means. Playing with Fang Yuan is like playing with fire, but if his talent turns out to only be C-grade like in the novel, then he himself is nothing to be concerned about for the time being,' Chi Yan thought in his heart, feeling slightly anxious.

Chi Yan understood that with Fang Yuan's low aptitude and value to the clan, he wouldn't be able to do anything to Chi Yan in a short period of time no matter what. On the other hand, Chi Yan had the backing of the Chi faction and would be protected by the clan; Fang Yuan wouldn't dare to do anything to him, at least not until until the wolf tide starts and there is chaos everywhere.

However, if Fang Yuan had exceptional talent, then it would be a completely different matter.

'Most importantly, if I try to openly make a move on Fang Yuan Heaven's Will could surely retaliate and eliminate me for messing with its plan…' Chi Yan sneered in his heart.

Although indirectly causing Fang Yuan's death was easy, it became nearly impossible when his plot armor called "Heaven's Will" was taken into account.

If this world was just like in the novel, then Chi Yan was clear that Heaven's Will would of course want to protect Fang Yuan!

Because of that Chi Yan felt very complicated. Although his plan was good… It was also terrible.

Even if Fang Yuan was not a threat for the time being, ignoring the countless wild beasts and ruthless geniuses of this world with their own ambitions, Chi Yan still saw Heaven's Will as the greatest danger to his life.

For now, he had no choice but to observe the development while secretly making plans and adapting to the situation.
