Lightning wolf pack attack

At another location.

A group of three Gu Masters was fighting fiercely, their formation under a siege of lightning wolves, being surrounded and assaulted by lightning wolves non-stop.

'Iron Skin Gu.' Gu Yue Chi Shan coldly called in his heart and his fist flashed with a gray metallic luster. He pounded down his fist at the nearest lightning wolf and crushed its head, before sending out a kick and breaking the spine of another.

A bunch of wolves then jumped on him all at once.

'Double Orifice Stove Gu!'

An aura of flames exploded all around Shi Shan's giant red body.

The explosion burned and knocked back four lightning wolves with a single move. Their bodies were charred and they were either completely dead or could barely move a single limb as they laid on the ground at the verge of death.

Next to Chi Shan was Chi Dan. He controlled a twenty meter branched iron vine in his hand and used it to create a portable fence-dome around him and his teammates, sweeping and pushing away lightning wolves that tried to overwhelm them. It had little offensive power, but it prevented them from being surrounded.

Nearby Gu Yue Chi Suo was keeping her distance while from time to time sending out a moonblade to support the other two.

Swoosh!

A slender moonblade traveled for a whole fourteen meters, arriving at a location where there was a gap in defense. The lightning wolf dodged it, but it still cut at its two legs, sending it tumbling and crippling it.

This was a rank 2 Moonscar Gu that was advanced from the basic Rank 1 Moonlight Gu. It had the same offensive power as Moonlight Gu, but its range was doubled, reaching up to twenty meters. Although it wasn't powerful, for these lightning wolves it was still very effective and it had low primeval essence cost.

Even though the wolves kept pouring out endlessly, Chi Shan's group kept their composure and wasn't overwhelmed.

All the group members displayed mutual understanding and cooperated smoothly. Chi Shan acted as a vanguard while the group headed in a clear direction.

This was the disposition of one of the top groups of the Gu Yue clan!

'Chi She is in the other direction.' Chi Suo thought as she bit her lips, but she didn't speak out loud.

"Chi Yan, we must break out and reach Chi Yan!" Chi Shan called out as he gritted his teeth.

Chi Yan was a false A-grade genius of their clan and the talented young patriarch of his Chi family. There was no room for failure!

If Chi Shan allowed Chi Yan to die during the very second mission, he would never be able raise his head in the clan ever again.

'There are too many lightning wolves, this is strange. I need to call reinforcements!' Having made this decision, Chi Shan used a signal flare Gu.

The red flare exploded with a baing in the air, being visible from 50 kilometers away.

It was now a matter of time before help from the Gu Yue village arrived.

A while back Chi Yan had also sprang from his bed after hearing the alarm.

'This alarm, it's a beast horde attack!' Chi Yan immediately recognized the alarm pattern.

Xiao Li and her father had also woken up.

Chi Yan sent the two mortals a short look, before he rushed to the door and opened it to assess the situation.

He originally went to sleep in his complete Gu Master clothing along with his shoes, so he was immediately ready for action.

'Wolf Eye Gu!' Chi Yan called out.

Not only lightning wolves, but even regular wolves have excellent night vision. Wolf Eye Gu is a one of the more popular scouting Gu worms that provides greatly enhanced vision during both the day and during the night, and this Gu is especially popular on Qing Mao Mountain.

The reason that Chi Yan chose this Wolf Eye Gu as his scouting Gu was exactly in preparation for these kinds of beast horde attacks which would happen during the night and which are the most dangerous.

Though the most important reason for choosing it was that Wolf Eye Gu was very easy to use, because it was a sight-based recon Gu. Using one's sense of hearing or temperature detection to scout around would naturally be much more difficult than simply using one's own eyes, and Wolf Eye Gu could even be easily used during combat, day or night!

After activating Wolf Eye Gu, Chi Yan's eyes turned to wolf eyes and began to shine with a golden-yellow light as his surroundings became clear to him:

Solitary blue-eyed lightning wolves began rushing through the village roads and breaking into the houses, beginning their hunt. It seemed that whatever green bamboo spear walls, gates and mortal guards that were previously blocking the wolves, it was all already broken through by the hordes of beasts.

Upon seeing Chi Yan out in the street a few wolves started rushing straight at him.

Chi Yan calmly activated Rank 2 Fire Pellet Gu.

Two fireballs formed in his palm. When the first wolf got near enough Chi Yan sent out his palms and his fireballs shot at the closest lightning wolf, before sending out two more sets of attacks at the other two wolves assaulting him.

It was a Rank 2 Fire Pellet Gu that was used, so adding in Chi Yan's Blazing Glory Lightning Physique the power of these fireballs didn't need to be questioned, but their size and traveling speed were also enhanced.

Three wolves were unable to avoid the rounds of attacks and were at least hit by one of the large-apple sized fireballs. The fireballs burned holes out through their bodies, killing two that had their heads or spain broken, and completely crippling another one that had its chest and all internal organs pierced and boiled.

"Lord…"

Chi Yan heard nervous voices of the two mortals coming from behind him. He turned around and saw the mortal man and his daughter looking on from behind him fearfully.

He was about to close the door, but after thinking for a moment he left it open. He turned around and pointed to a corner of the building where the kang was.

"If you want to live, go and stand in that corner," Chi Yan commended as he pointed his hand.

The two mortals did not dare protest and nodded their heads, walking back deeper into the building. On the way the man picked up a hunting knife and a bow, and upon seeing that, the mortal girl also picked up a knife from the kitchen area.

The two mortals then stood on top of the kang in the corner of the room, holding their weapons, while Chi Yan had already also gotten deeper into the room and watched the entrance.

The situation inside the building was calm for a while, so Chi Yan took this chance to inspect his primeval sea.

79% primeval essence.

It appeared that Chi Yan's primeval essence dropped by over 20% after just the previous attack.

Chi Yan wrinkled his brows. 'A Rank 2 Fire Pellet Gu is too costly! I should use Rank 1 Gu instead. Who knows how many wolves I'll need to fight.'

Chi Yan mobilized his Gu Worms and replaced the Rank 2 Fire Pellet Gu imprint in his right palm with the Rank 1 one.

Following that Chi Yan also fully activated Double Ortifice Stove Gu in preparation for the future fights to have a trump card.

After activating the Double Ortifice Stove Gu it was as if a new mysterious organ within Chi Yan's chest began accumulating his internal body heat and warming him up from the inside during the cold winter night.

And then Chi Yan simply waited.

At this time no new lightning wolves were entering the house despite the wide open door.

Chi Yan understood.

That was the nature of beasts like lightning wolves - they tend to hunt the weak prey first. Upon seeing the charred three wolf corpses before the door, they avoided Chi Yan's house and instead started hunting mortals in the other houses.

However, Chi Yan didn't need to wait for long until a new lightning wolf entered the doorstep, seeming to want to check things out.

The lightning wolf was immediately greeted by a wave of three fireballs drilling holes through its body. It died on the spot.

Following that, from time to time a wolf or two would barge into the building through the open door, but Chi Yan would slaughter all of them.

A fireball of Fire Pellet Gu didn't have a wide range like the Moonlight Gu, but it had high penetrating power and a decent size. If it was a Rank 1 Fire Pellet Gu Gu, then the current Chi Yan could rather effortlessly form three to four fireballs at the same time. He would then send out this kind of combined attack like a shotgun round and kill any wolves that entered the doorstep.

If there was a wolf which kept rushing inside in a frenzy despite fatal wounds, Chi Yan would simply send out another wave of attacks.

Chi Yan already sent out around twenty fireballs, but his Primeval Sea was not changing at all, remaining at around 79%. The primeval essence cost of using Rank 1 Gu with Rank 2 cultivation was simply too low! He could keep sending them nonstop and he would not run out of primeval essence, actively recovering any primeval essence he spent.

Chi Yan's Rank 1 Fire Pellet Gu also had the power more than doubled due to the amplification of his physique, so it was enough to kill these crippled and old lightning wolves.

One, two, three, four…

The wolves kept pouring in, sometimes in groups of two.

In turn, Chi Yan sent out waves of fireballs repeatedly and a few wolf corpses had piled up at the door. Killing them was very easy.

It was a typical strategy taught in the Academy. With the door open the wild beasts would not try to make their own openings and pour in from all directions, but would instead be concentrated in one area, becoming easy to kill.

Unfortunately, the doorframe soon caught fire from the fireballs and the fire slowly started spreading to the wooden walls.

Crash!

A window suddenly broke down and one lightning wolf barged into the room from another direction. Seeing the corpses and fire at the entrance, it didn't dare to enter upfront.

The young girl screamed but could only hide herself behind her father and Chi Yan, standing with a kitchen knife in her hand.

Crash!

A second small window was broken and another lightning wolf jumped in from another direction at the same moment. The two wolves attacked simultaneously, while the fire at the doors only continued spreading.

It took Chi Yan by surprise, but he already pre-position himself. He gritted his teeth and sent out a wave of three fireballs at the first wolf, formed another round of three and immediately sent it at the second wolf.

The pulled back bow in the mortal man's hand trembled as he saw the fierce lightning wolf get killed before him with the wave of Chi Yan's hand.

Meanwhile Chi Yan pre-formed four fireballs in front of his palm and observed the surroundings, but just a moment later he already had to send out his attack, because another crippled lightning wolf stormed the building.

Shhhhh!

With the sound of burning flames, four fireballs flew through the air and killed another intruder on the spot; four fireballs simply covered too large of a distance to allow the cripple lightning wolf to survive this kind of accurate barrage.

Following that more and more wolves started pouring in from the two windows and some even through the burning door. It seemed that the mortals in the area were all eaten up and the lightning wolves had no choice but to attack Chi Yan.

Chi Yan sent out waves of three to four fireballs one after another one. Killing one or two wolves with each attack.

However, the wolves only kept pouring in. In an instant there were five to six wolves inside the room, growling and preparing to attack from all directions.

'Damn it! Why are there so many lightning wolves here?!' Chi Yan cursed in his heart, feeling both surprised and confused. Even if it was a prelude of the small beast horde, the number of the wolves attacking this small village was just too big!

Chi Yan expected that some random mixed wild beast groups or small lightning wolf groups of maybe up to twelve or twenty in a pack at the maximum might attack them, but never this.

Seeing the number of lightning wolves suddenly barging in and surrounding him and the two mortals, Chi Yan's thoughts flew quickly as he snorted and puffed out flames out from his nose.

The flames quickly transformed into a few meter long agile fire snake, while Chi Yan's primeval sea took a considerable dip at the same time.

Under Chi Yan's control the fire snake formed into a defensive line around him. He roared inwardly and then explosively swept the fire snake across the room like a whip, burning apart all of the wolves that it struck in a single wave, also cutting and scratching the floor, the walls and the furniture.

In an instant five to six crippled lightning wolves died, while the building all over also caught fire where the fire snake struck.

Fortunately these were all weak, sick, old or disabled lightning wolves, some of them missing a tail, an ear or an eye, or even being completely blind. They were much slower and easier to deal with than healthy and energetic lightning wolves, unable to dodge such a skilled attack.

In the corner, the young mortal girl's eyes widened and she stared in shock at Chi Yan, hiding closely behind her father in the corner. Chi Yan was too strong! She didn't think that someone so gentle and kind would be so good at killing.

At the same time she felt a chill in her heart and a powerful sense of respect. Chi Yan was a Gu Master after all.

Chi Yan manipulated his fire snake and shortened its length to just 2,5 meters.

At the same time, the previously greatly dimmed down fire snake regained its full power as the flames became more condensed. It isn't that Chi Yan planned it extensively to converse primeval essence, but he simply wanted to have a shorter fire snake to control in the enclosed space.

While keeping the fire snake in the air, extending out from his nose, Chi Yan formed four fireballs in his right hand and sent them out at another wolf that jumped in through the window.

Following that, the number of lightning wolves that then entered was greatly reduced, while those that entered didn't dare to recklessly barge in and atack Chi Yan, but instead kept their distance; perhaps after seeing the number of scorched and dead wolf corpses in the place, or perhaps because of the fire all around.

At this time, the building was on fire and the flames were rapidly spreading. The entire entrance of the building was in flames, while the previous fire snake attack started fires in the other corners.

Smoke began to fill the room and it was becoming difficult to breathe. It was only a matter of time before the fire consumed the entire building, the building collapsed or the three inside suffocated.

Chi Yan looked around for a while as he thought of what to do next.

Although the situation seemed dire, Chi Yan felt calm deep within his heart and the stimulation of the life and death battle only caused his blood to boil in excitement.

The truth was that he was very safe and already had a few back-up plans he thought of in advance.

Firstly, he still had Fire Cloak Gu. With Fire Cloak Gu he would be completely safe from the wolves and from the fire, while the wolves would only get hurt if they approached him.

However, through the fire cloak's flames could kill Xiao Li and her father. Fire Cloak Gu was simply a terrible defensive Gu when trying to protect someone else.

Chi Yan also still had Shadow Follower Gu. He could escape at any point from the wolf's eyes and not have to fight them.

He still had a lot of primeval essence too.

As long as he abandoned these mortals, then it would be easy and Chi Yan would do just fine.

Chi Yan looked at the frightened young girl and the tense mortal man behind him.

He already decided. If the situation was hopeless then he would definitely abandon these two. These two were just strangers with no value, why would he risk his life for them?

But he was far from being so incompetent and the situation didn't get to that point yet.

'I can always use them as fodder later. Let's do this instead,' Chi Yan thought inwardly.

Having made his decision, Chi Yan poured more primeval essence into the fire snake, and the fire snake extended to around four meters. He then sent the snake at the nearest wooden wall.

The fire snake entered the fire wall like a knife into butter. Akin to a jedi in a star wars movie cutting out a hole in a gate with a lightsaber, Chi Yan then cut out a round hole in the wooden wall with the fire snake.

Then the cut out circle naturally dropped out, revealing a large hole in the wall.

Chi Yan recalled his snake and turned back to the two mortals, shouting, "Come! We'll escape through here!"
