46 Unbelievable Reasons

"You have a lot of similarity with William, Bash. Whenever I see you, I just get reminded of the pain."

There was a long pregnant pause before everything kicked in for Bash. I had waited for about a several minutes of dreadful silence while he had this blank look in his face.

"Now that you know who William is, are you happy now?" I asked him.

I cocked my head sideways as I turned to face him. My arms were crossed below my chest and I gave him a long and pensive look.

His mouth was taut and his dark brows were scrunched into that trademark raven bridge. He clearly was contemplating things over and I turned away, losing interest in his response as he was taking too long to say something – anything at that.

"Hmm…" I heard him hum.

It was as if the things I had told him didn't make sense to him at all.

Perhaps this reincarnation of William couldn't really comprehend the things of the past. The feelings and guilt may have somewhat stayed but the confusion washed the real memories away entirely.

It was a foreign feeling for someone who couldn't remember, and with that his brain could only explain it as a fleeting emotion that had no deeper meaning.

Throw the unexplainable things away and focus on the present.

How lucky he is not to remember. Somehow, it seemed to me that despite being born again in a younger version of myself, I was the only one who was suffering.

"I have one last question though…" I heard Bash ask about three minutes after, his finger curiously on his lip.

It sure took him long enough to say something.

"And that is?" I replied nonchalantly, my eyes gazing at the wonders of the ferris wheel constructed far away from where we had stood.

"What was the reason William betrayed you?" he asked curiously. "I mean, did you hear his reasons come out from his mouth or had you just assumed all on your own?"

I made a sharp turn of my head as I took off the oversized sunglasses I wore and looked at him with disdain in my eyes. "Didn't you catch up on what I told you? He didn't fight for us. His family didn't want me, that was probably reason enough for Will."

I waved at him like he was crazy to be actually asking if I was just stupidly assuming things.

"He was an heir to a huge business at the time and I am nothing compared to him." I hissed. "If he really loved me, he should have tried to reach out and fight for me."

"Oof… that's some really choosy family." He muttered under his voice. "But I still think that it would have been better to know his side you know, rather than blame it all on him that your relationship didn't work out."

I scoffed at Bash and replied, "You are one to talk. It's not like you were in my shoes."

Bash's face turned from curious to sour as he regarded me with his beautiful purple eyes.

"I don't know Lizzie, I am not you, and I sure am not that William dude. But you know, as a guy – heck maybe just about anyone maybe – we tend to do things that are hurtful to others but for us, it was probably the best option."

'Yeah sure, you wouldn't know you are exactly William's reincarnation.' I thought to myself.

Bash stared at me for a very long time and I willingly accepted the challenge and returned the stare as well.

The sun was slowly setting to the west and the bright skies were painted with beautiful swirls and puffs of orange clouds.

Rays of sunshine were peeking behind them and it looked so majestic and somehow lonely at the same time.

The beauty of the afternoon was a mix of melancholic hues and here I was, with the reincarnation of the lover that had left me to fight for a love that burned, and ultimately turned to ashes, blown by the wind and shouldn't have been remembered.

Except, the spirits and that quirky deity had given me the chance to live again with the memories of my tragic past. To seek justice and avenge myself and the other women that had died with me in the burning.

I peeked at Bash who had turned dead silent beside me. Was he trying to think again of some unbelievable reason to justify a man that had left his lover behind without even defending her?

The cold afternoon summer wind blew yet again, and I instinctively grabbed for the jacket that he had previously slung over my shoulders.

Bash opened his mouth to continue where he left off, "Maybe he left you because it was the best solution for the both of you at the time."

I literally had my mouth hung open as the disbelief in my face was displayed for him to see. I clenched my fist and was about to throw a punch at him when suddenly there was a loud sound that erupted between us.

KRIIING!

KRIIING!

KRIIING!

Bash's cellular phone ringed and he fumbled for it in his black jeans' pockets, only to realize that the sound was not coming from him. Bash turned his head in confusion to look at me and I realized that he was actually staring at the side pockets of his jacket.

"Here you go, I won't be needing it now." I said as I quickly swung the garment off my shoulders and threw his jacket over to Bash.

He reluctantly accepted it as his hand moved to grab where my hand had clutched his jacket.

My eyes were looking at him intently as I tried to observe his every move and expression, trying to see any hint of remorse even for the sad tale I had told him of.

There was none.

Bash slung the jacket on his left shoulder as he flipped his phone open to answer the call.

"Yeah, Nico what is it? You aren't trying to beg me to join you because your lonely, are you?" he teased, smoothly switching moods from serious and contemplative to an overjoyed chatterbox.

There was some static buzz that came from his phone and I thought I heard the slightly distinguishable words from Nico's end.

"I am tempted to do so, Bash my man. But I am not calling because of that." Nico's voice had said. "I called because I actually found us some talent scout, and he wants to meet us right now."
