7 Man and wife

Ivan gave me a passport with a new identity. Most people didn't know exactly what I looked like because we rarely left the palace. We were always a targetfor abduction and asassination attempts.

From that moment on, I was known as Alina, wife of Ivan.

My father married my mother because he was in love with her. It was a luxury not given to almost all the Imperial and Royal families all over the world. Arranged marriages are vital for allegiances and alliances between two different kingdoms. Most of these unions were loveless and doomed from the very start but one must perform his/ her expected from him/ her.

Our dynasty was different. The Romanovs are not allowed to be forced in an unwanted union. We were given the right to choose who we love except for commoners and definitely not with peasants.

Our place in society was instilled at the very core of our souls and mingling with peasants were too horrifying to be discussed. That was how people like me were raised.

When papa expressed his desire to marry mama, my grandmother, the then Empress was not very pleased. In fact, he loathed my mother and tried everything to convince my Emperor grandfather to reject the wish of papa. Grandma considered my mother as disastrous, ill-fitted to be the wife of a future Emperor.

It was hard to understand back then but she is right. Mother's knows best.. women like mama are not meant to take on a crucial role of a magnitude level. She married into of the most powerful families in the world and took on a role of a wife to the future Emperor with hundred million subjects spanning to almost half of the entire globe.

In another world, another lifetime, maybe Ivan and I could actually be married and become husband and wife.. But we were living in a wrong era. An era where everything and everyone was against us.
