Hugging his sister close, Rowan could feel Rosette's shoulders tremble beneath his embrace.

As if they were puzzle pieces she fit perfectly in his arms making his lips curl up slightly as he looked down and kissed the top of her head. Recalling her feeble appearance yesterday he was just happy she was able to hold onto him so strongly. After the news of their parents death she had fainted and didn't wake until today. Mad with worry he stayed up all night caring for her. If he lost his sweet sister too...he truly would not be able to go on. She had always had poor health and the shock she had yesterday was not a small one.

Restless, rowan stayed up all night applying a cold pack to her forehead until he finally fell asleep in the living room. Now that she was awake Rosette no longer seemed as feeble as before.

Her fever had almost vanished along with her tears.

"are you all right now?" he asked adoringly.

nodding her head rosette whispered " yes big brother".

Days slowly passed without her relapsing but for some reason an odd feeling rose in him. His sister seemed different yet the same. What had happened while he was away at boarding school? He had been sent away only 4 months ago, allowed to return for summer. Yet his sister seemed to have greatly matured. He used to know her like the back of his hand.

That's why his strict father had sent him away. calling the siblings relationship unhealthy he used the excuse of furthering Rowan's connections with other families he forced him out. Not long after Rowan heard the news. An illegitimate son had been found born from his father's college tutor.

Deep in his heart Rowan knew their parents death was no accident.

His mother was never a stable person. after learning of her husband's betrayal she must have killed his father and herself in anger. yet he didn't have the heart to tell rosette the truth. he would come to regret this much later on.
