Is This Hell?

Lycaon woke up in his bed after a night of reading manhwa, he got up and put some clothes on before going downstairs. He walked into his kitchen and opened a cupboard with snacks in, and took out a cereal bar.

After eating his breakfast, if it could even be called that, Lycaon went to brush his teeth. He went into his bathroom and looked at himself before doing anything else.

He had black wavy hair, dark blue eyes, olive skin, and was slightly tanned. He stood at 5'10 with an average build without much muscle but not a lot of fat either. Lycaon was not exactly very attractive, but he also wasn't ugly either.

Once he had finished looking at himself, Lycaon put some toothpaste on his toothbrush and tried to run it under the tap. However, when he tried to turn the tap on, nothing came out. This confused Lycaon, so he shouted to his mom, "Mom, the tap's broken. Can you come look at it?"

Despite shouting as loud as he could, no reply came. As this was the case, he went to look for his mom, or any of his family, to look at the tap for him. However, even after looking around his house completely without missing even a single room or cupboard, Lycaon could not find any of his family.

He then had a thought, 'They might have gone out, I should probably check on the phone tracking app where they are.'

Lycaon got his phone out and tried to load the app that he used to track his family and friends on, but instead of the normal sight of everyone's locations, nobody showed up on his map as well as a large wifi symbol with a line through it appearing in the middle of the screen.

'This is so weird, maybe they just went outside.'

As quick as he could, Lycaon ran down his stairs and out of his front door to check if his family were there. However, what greeted Lycaon, who had not looked outside since he had woken up, was a huge shock.

Every house on his street was in a state of ruin, apart from his own, and the sky was completely red. The sun that Lycaon was used to had been replaced with a deep red and much larger sun as well.

'What happened? Where am I?'

Thoughts were racing through Lycaon's head as he tried to figure out the situation that he was in. His street showed no signs of any people still being there which would make sense if it had been ruined for a long time, but it was completely normal the day before.

Lycaon walked around for about five minutes without any signs of life, but luckily for him he saw a man rummaging around in his neighbour's bins. He started to walk closer to the man in an attempt to find out what had happened, but when the man turned slightly, Lycaon saw something strange.

The man had skin that was discoloured and rotting, it was a green colour with black areas.

Only one thought came to Lycaon's mind, 'Is that a zombie?'.

As he thought this, a translucent screen appeared in front of his eyes 'Cleanse The Ruined World Of Monsters. You Cannot Die Permanently Until This Task Is Completed. Upon Completion, You Will Be Able To Return To Your World.

As soon as he saw this, Lycaon came to a conclusion, 'Shit, this is basically a manhwa isn't it.'

Three things stuck out to Lycaon about the message he was given: Firstly, he had to personally get rid of every monster in the world he was in, the second thing was that he could not 'die permanently' while he was completing the task, and the third thing that he found important was that he would be able to return home if he managed to kill every monster.

While he was thinking this, another screen appeared, this time it was his own status screen which he had already expected the existence of.

Name: Lycaon Oberon

Age: 16

Species: Human

Death Count: 0

Star:

Level: 1

Skill Slots (20):

'Thankfully the status screen is simple and easy to understand. It would have been annoying if there was too much information. The only downside is the seemingly limited amount of skill slots, but it definitely could have been worse than 20. He was also interested in what was meant by the Star, but decided to leave it until he found out naturally.'

As the monster, that Lycaon assumed was a zombie or something similar, had not spotted him yet, he decided to go back inside of his house and find a weapon to get rid of it with. Although he had never killed anything before, Lycaon was sure that he would be able to fight monsters that would also try to kill him, especially if it was his only way of getting home.

While inside his home, he went into his kitchen and started searching through all of the cutlery drawers. After around thirty seconds, he found what he had been looking for, he was holding the largest knife he had in his kitchen. It was made of some sort of metal, and he felt that it would give him the best chances against the zombie like creature.

Once he had found a weapon, he went back outside to check if the zombie was still where it had been prior to him going inside. Luckily for him, it was still digging through the garbage and was distracted. This meant that Lycaon had the perfect opportunity to sneak up on his target.

He slowly started to walk towards the zombie while being as quiet as he possibly could, but when he got within around five steps of the monster, it suddenly turned around. This startled Lycaon, and caused him to take a step back in shock.

As soon as the monster lay its eyes on him, it lunged forward and slashed its arm at him in an uncoordinated attempt at an attack. Despite having little to no combat experience, Lycaon easily managed to evade this, and in return he slashed his knife at the zombie.

This caused a large gash to appear on the zombie's face and black blood to start flowing. Despite this attack, the zombie seemed unfazed, and attempted to bite Lycaon by throwing itself forward towards him.

In response to this, Lycaon kicked the monster away which caused it to fall to the ground. He then stood over the zombie and started to stomp on its head. He did not know of any other potential way that he could kill the zombie as he was not strong enough to cut its head off.

Lycaon kept crushing the zombie's head until he was sure it was dead, this did not happen because he assumed so, but instead because he got a small screen in his vision saying he had levelled up.
