3 The Awakening

-A few months later-

A young girl traveled through the forest with a playful smile. She arrived at a village located at the east river. The village people paid no attention to her as she jumped down from the trees and into a wooden cottage. Once she was inside and the door closed the village women began to chatter about her again.

"It's that child."

"Yeah. Been here for a couple of months now."

"Wish she wasn't here."

"Don't say that, poor child."

"Must be an orphan."

"Oh who bothers. She's eleven now, the chief said it before if she is only staying here on the possibility of her having powers."

As they chattered they did not know that Fleur heard everything.

She sighed and paid no mind to it. She looked at the lunar calendar and looked at the check she marked on the 8th, the day of the awakening. On that day an officer would be sent here to awaken the children for ages 5-13. For small villages like these the possibilities of there being children awakening magic were low but the schools and the government are taking any amount as a chance since the amount of mages were still considered pretty low.

The days went by fast and before she knew it, it was the day of the awakening.

Fleur looked bored as she yawned and sat on a nearby oak tree. She took out an apple as the procter announced the rules and introduced the importance of this exam. She bit into the apple as the procter had the kids line up and to go up the platform to the crystal one by one. The first kid stood up to the platform and shakingly placed his hand into the water, onto the crystal. Immediately it glowed bright yellow and the kid was enveloped in the yellow aura. The referees nodded and scratched their quills on their clipboards. "Light, level 4."

The kid beamed and a proud smile hung on his lips as he made his way down. Immediately the kid's parents rushed over and pulled him in for a hug. The other villages envied them and even the chief looked pleased by him.

The next kid was even more nervous, she almost fell as she stepped up the stairs. The girl slipped her hands in the bowl, however nothing happened. Another second passed and the girl broke down crying. Giant droplets of water rolled out of her eyes and onto the ground. The administrators shook their heads and wrote something with their quills before dismissing her. The girl couldn't stop crying and ran away into the village.

A woman that stood under the tree Fleur was on also broke down crying before following after the crying girl.

The same goes for the next two kids. Up on the chief's seat, the old man could only shake his head in disappointment. When all the kids went up his disappointment only grew for this year their village only had one mage. In the past years there were at least two with only one for this year he could not hide his disappointment. It was not only him, even the elders couldn't as well. They could only sigh and look at each other before sighing again. At least there was one.

"Are there anymore children that has not yet awakened?" The procter asked even though he already knew the answer.

No one responded to him and he looked at the other administrators who shook their heads. He sighed and turned around to leave when Fleur jumped down from her spot on the trees.

"Wait!" A women called. The proctor looked around.

"There's one more." Without asking for Fleur's permission, she dragged Fleur up to the platform.

"Oh yeah, there's still that girl."

"Totally forgot about her."

Fleur groaned as the women let go of her and ran back into the crowd. The proctor is a 6 feet tall man and looked like a giant next to an eleven year old child. Before the proctor could say anything Fleur walked up to the crystal and her hand into the water and on it. Immediately the crystal glowed blue and a blinding light came out. While the others covered their eyes Fleur closed hers and felt the magic surrounding her. The barrier she had felt before on her magic was now broken and her magic is rapidly growing.

When the light dimmed Fleur opened her eyes and her eyes had turned blue before becoming brown again. She turned around to face the crowd behind her. Everyone in the village looked shocked even the elders and the chief could not believe what they just saw.

That girl has magic?!

The proctor and the administrators exchanged a glance at each other before nodding. The administrators wrote down something on their paper and the proctor smiled.

'This girl will become very powerful in the future.'

He walked up to her and bent down to get on the same eye level as her.

"What's your name?" He asked.

She stayed silent for a while as if she was considering something before answering.

"Ivy. Ivy Meadows."

The proctor mumbled her name before smiling at her and then stood up.

"Ivy Meadows. You are a water mage at level 6."

Fleur (Ivy) nodded and stepped off the platform.
