Chapter 04: Trying To Curse Her Or Something?

Amethyst woke up with the sound of chopping from the outside and the sound of the keyboard being hit on beside her.

She was once again lulled by these sounds back to sleep and somehow it was a peaceful one, no nightmares nor memories of the past.

Scarlet who was typing on her laptop noticed this subtle movement but at the same time saw that Amethyst have returned to her deep slumber.

'She must have been very tired,' she thought before returning to her laptop.

This was something she wanted to finish before she dies, before she succumbs to her illness.

But up to date, all she had were materials, she still has no idea how she would make it flow. There are a few more places she wanted to go to as well here in Baguio but her condition does not allow her to do so and that saddens her a lot.

If she couldn't go to the places she wanted to go to then there is no point in creating this one at all. There is no point in hoping that a last book could be created.

Scarlet couldn't help but to sigh.

"What are you doing sighing beside a patient? Are you trying to curse her or something?"

She looked back and saw Slate leaning by the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest. It was already picture perfect when the lighting was included if not for the apron hanging on his body.

Scarlet couldn't help but chuckle, no matter how grumpy this one is, he still ends up doing whatever it is that Scarlet asks him to do.

"Are you done cooking?" she asked.

"Not yet, it is still boiling over there," he pointed towards his back using his thumb.

Due to her being in a wheel chair, all the cooking was left to Slate and she would be the living proof of his amazingness when it comes to cooking.

Slate walked in and checked the drip, seeing that it was good, he walked out of the room and returned to what he was cooking. Scarlet followed after.

"You were just like a doctor back then," she then said as she stayed behind him.

He looked at her with his eyes telling her that he was a doctor.

"What I'm saying is that, the first time this happened. You acted like a rogue and just threw her in the nearest hospital. But now, you are taking care of her," Scarlet shrugged the way he looked at her.

"If I were to move out now, then you would surely not follow me and insist on taking care of her. I'd rather not be troubled by that," was his reply before receiving a slap on his lower back.

"Are you telling me that I am stubborn?" Scarlet instantly retorted but was still laughing.

Slate didn't answer back as he tried avoiding the slaps coming from his sister, his eyes were smiling as well.

"So, how was it going?" he asked after they finally calmed down.

Scarlet's face turned solemn, "It's not working at all. The materials are almost complete but I still have no idea how it will flow."

Slate placed a hand on top of her head as he bent down in order for their faces to be of the same level.

He then gave her a smile, "You will surely find how you want to make it go. Don't pressure yourself and just keep going at your own pace."

Scarlet smiled and nodded her head.

Slate returned to his cooking while she watches him.

"Are you happy you followed my wishes?" after a bit she couldn't help but ask.

"Why wouldn't I follow your wish when practically you raised me with grandmother?" he asked in return.

"Well, I just thought that maybe because I am about to die?" she suddenly asked.

Slate hissed as he looked at her, his face filled with seriousness.

"How many times must I tell you that no matter what, I don't care about your sickness. I am doing all of these because you are my sister. Didn't you do the same for me back then? You gave up studying in order for me to study. You couldn't do so many things just so you can help grandma raise me. What more can I ask for than to follow you as you fulfill what you still wanted to do?" he berated her.

He is the doctor while she is the patient, that is why both of them were aware of her condition. Both were aware that her body has deteriorated a lot, it was a lot thinner than when they first came here.

They knew that this might end up being her last year of existence, that is why she pushed through with her plan of coming here and finishing her final project before then.

"Uhmm," just then they heard another voice coming from close by.

Both looked at its source and there stood Amethyst, she was holding unto the IV drip, which was in a metal stand that Slate brought in as well.

"You're awake," Scarlet smiled and brightened up upon seeing Amethyst.

"I didn't mean to listen, I'm so sorry. I was just shock to see that I am in my place and could hear people inside, I didn't mean to listen to your conversation," she bowed her head in apology.

Scarlet was first stunned before she chuckled and approached Amethyst holding on to her hand that was holding the metal stand.

"Why are you apologizing when this is your own unit in the first place. We talked about our personal matters without thinking where we are. You really don't have to apologize."

Amethyst felt a pang in her heart when she felt Scarlet's bony hands, she finally understood who it was that saved her two years ago.

She finally understood who it was that said those words.

She stood straight and looked at Scarlet with a smile, her smile was genuine, "Thank you for saving my life today and two years ago."

Scarlet was stunned before smiling back at her, "I suppose you must be very hungry. Shall we eat? My brother cooked it and I can assure you that it was very delicious."

Amethyst slowly looked at the back of Slate who was still having some final touches to whatever it was that he was cooking.

Scarlet pulled her to his side and the two of them watched him finish his cooking, just by the look and the smell, Amethyst could tell that this one is a truly delicious dish.

Then realization hit her, she has no grocery. That was the reason why she was about to go out a while ago. She slowly looked around her kitchen and found some fruits as well.

"Oh my gosh, how much must I pay? There's also the doctor's fee and then this drip, now the groceries, I have no groceries, you must have bought them," she became flustered at the thought of them doing all these for her.

She started muttering to herself looking for her bag and her wallet, moving around with the metal she was holding.

Scarlet felt like laughing, Amethyst looked like a mature in control woman when she was outside, who would have thought that she could easily get flustered.

"Ah, be careful," Scarlet reached out when Amethyst hit the metal on the counter and she tripped on the foot of the metal.

Amethyst closed her eyes ready to accept the impact of that stupid fall when she felt an arm wrapping around her waist supporting her.

"Thank you," she meekly said when she found her footing and Slate released her.

"A patient should act like a patient, for everything that follows after that, worry about it when you are done being a patient," he berated.

"I'm sorry," was all she could say.

She had long lost the feeling of being supported that suddenly being shown such made her think of payment instead of just thanking them.
