34 The other shoe drops

David was now happily working in his lab; it had been a few weeks since his trip to Mercury and he was still working on his Liquid core power unit. Once it was done, he would not need to be concerned about power for the islands, he would have an abundance. He could then work on smaller versions for his ships and other equipment.

He had maintained contact with little Nat and let her mother speak to her in her dreams. Ivan had thwarted all the kidnapping attempts so far and it was not the time for the Hand. David knew the serum was already making the girl stronger and smarter, he also had a lot of assassination and martial arts loaded into her subconscious in case things got out of hand.

Smiling as he stood back he looked over the 2 large and 4 small Liquid Core power units. All he could do not was leave them be for a week. They needed to settle by themselves, and anything he did to rush them would weaken the containment as had been proven many times in the past.

'David, we have received some information from the scans of the Kuiper Belt that you need to see.' This was a belt of asteroids just beyond Pluto, they the second last-named object in our Solar system, the dwarf planet Eris being the last.

Thinking the timing was great David headed to his office. The moment he entered the door he saw Steph laying back on the sofa with a soft smile on her lips and her eyes slightly glazed over, it seemed she was talking to little Nat again.

As he walked past her, he slowed enough to lean in and give her a light kiss on the forehead; this caused Steph's smile to grow wider as David chuckled lightly to himself. His office was rather large, with his desk facing the door and a large sofa on the left and right as you enter the room, in the middle a long coffee table rested with numerous magazines, none of them David's. On the far left and right walls were rows of bookshelves, the one on the right had a section in the middle cut out and it seemed to be a minibar. Behind his desk was a large one was a window that looked over the river.

Sitting in the large leather chair behind his desk he spoke to GCA, "Go ahead with the report."

GCA started loading information into David's memory for him to review, most of it was mental and minerals. Most of it was rather good if you considered David was a week away from getting a ship in space for people to be able to mine. Well, most of it.

'GCA are we sure in these initial scans? The Kuiper Belt is full of Levar ships?'

'Yes, David. There is no mistake, although it seems all life forms on these ships are currently in deep hibernation. We have located no command ships in the vicinity.'

'Would this represent the armada that attacks this earth a lot later in their history?'

'Yes, David. They have all been latched onto the asteroids, so it seems they have been there for some time, although they are unable to take any action without the command ships.'

'That is the second time you mentioned them, I assumed you meant leaders before but now you seem to imply they cannot function without them?'

'Yes, David. The Levar breed themselves to fulfill the roles required. The ones you are familiar with are command Levar, they are highly intelligent, and their ships are designed to scan long distances and transmit orders to warships. They would contain all logistic equipment.

The ones currently in this solar system are the warriors, they are 193cm tall and breed to be very strong, they are also unable to function without an order from the command once a war scenario has been activated.'

'Am I to assume you were unable to share this with me until the nanites fixed you?'

'That is correct, David.'

'Very well then, how many command ships would be required to control an entire armada?'

'Normal procedure would be three, David.'

'How much information do you possess about them? Would you be able to compare the Levar of our Universe with this one?'

'I possess the most basic knowledge, David. I believe I might be able too"

'Wait, you know most basic knowledge, since when would that include their military command structure?'

'I do not know David; I can only tell you that this information is all within my standard knowledge files. In fact, all my information is within my standard knowledge files. Except for the knowledge you supplied after we came here'

'So, is it possible any knowledge previously locked was transferred when the nanites repaired you?'

'They said yes, David'

David leans forward, resting his elbows on the desk and holding his head up with his hands that are below his chin

'Are Levar able to act against their role?'

'Not normally, David. A command Levar would not be able to kill but could plan out the best way to kill someone and give the order.'

'I always wondered why they never wiped us out, their ships seemed intimidating enough."

'Incorrect, David, the ships only had basic weaponry. Comparison complete David. Based on the information currently available to me it seems the Levar in both Universe are using the same programming, hardware, and protocols'

'That seems a bit much, I could understand one being traders and another warmonger. It seems too much of a coincidence that one is the missing command of three ships while the other an armada for warships.'

Leaning back in his chair David started to play with all the factors in his mind, and he was not liking where it was going.

If the Levar were on their way to take over this solar system, and for some reason, their command ships disappeared, the warships would default to find a safe place to anchor and hibernate until they received instruction. So, let's assume the three command ships found themselves within another Universe, with no warship support but decent tactical planning.

Why would they not ask for help? It is a weakness; they need to seem in control and therefore not seen as prey. Then how do you get people to make what you want once you realize you are unable? Make them desperate, make them unable to go anywhere for help so that they, with you conveniently supplied intelligence boosting serum make something you might be able to use to get home.

Although this was all conjecture it meant David might have made exactly what they needed. That did not explain why they were not here then. Strange said this was most likely his last time resetting, so if they did not get to his lab within time … they arrived in this Universe later than his. Urgh this was all messing with his brain, he needed to just work with what was in front of him.
