6 A novel beginning

Sara spent hours trying to find the original post. She couldn't, but that didn't mean that she didn't find out what exactly people thought about her. She didn't need to search hard, most people were vocal about their opinions on the internet, even when others begged them not to be.

The general consensus was that she was a spoilt rich girl who wanted to cause a scene and have fun victimizing some laborers. In short…most "regular" people…hated her.

But, there were a few terrible people that thought what she was doing was funny. There will always be some people that love to watch and laugh at other's misfortune. Of course, she hadn't been doing what they thought. She wasn't some rich girl out looking to get her jollies from making life harder for those in the Labor Force. She was only trying to help her mom…

At this point in time, Sara didn't understand that, while she may not have been a rich girl, she was indeed out to make life harder for those in the labor force. After all, she never believed her mother was in any danger, and she wasn't close enough to either of her parents to become overly stressed at them being gone for a few days. This was something that was normal in society. Labor Force workers were rarely ever home. They couldn't take their children to their school plays and sporting events. Hell, most of the time they couldn't afford to pay for their kids extracurricular activities, so most labor force worker's children didn't do much in regards to extracurriculars. This caused many of their children to become apathetic to their parents plight and, in some cases, even resent them. Sara's apathy toward her mother was something that many her age felt. It isn't fair to judge her for this, as it's merely the product of the society she lived in from birth. Though most people felt the same way, that didn't mean they wouldn't scorn someone for acting in such a way. The world is full of hypocrites.

Sara had yet to realize these facts about herself. At her age, most people didn't know themselves as well as they thought they did. Maybe someday she would be able to finally get to know and bond with her parents, but that would not be for quite a while.

Sara continued her research, trying to find a way to reconcile who she was, and who these people thought she was. Finally, a single spark of inspiration gave her what she needed to press forward.

She knew from watching other's that trying to be something she wasn't wouldn't work and wouldn't be able to keep her followers interested. Even if it did, many of the people that did such a thing would be successful for a little over a year, then would drop back down after their gimmick lost it's novelty.

So, she made the decision to throw away any ideas that would be in line with her viral sensationalism, and instead decided to use the money she would make from all her followers and views to re-invent her online self.

Children of Labor Workers weren't uncommon. Many of the people online trying to make a name for themselves were in fact the children of Labor Workers. If she wanted to try to break into that community, she would have to compete with the top people in that community and Sara knew that she would never be able to do so.

She took a few days to review her videos on her page and found that many people were not interested in her day to day life or any "pranks" or rants that she had posted. They didn't like her life, they didn't like her. But, this was the only life she had…..She couldn't change who she was, she had already decided that doing so would not help her situation in the long run.

So, Sara decided to use the money and to create a new channel.

Everyone was given one free channel. They were given a set number of subscription points that allowed them to follow who they wanted online. You can unsubscribe from someone and use that point on someone else if you wanted, and you could buy more subscription points if you wanted. If you wanted to have a second channel, you had to pay an upfront fee, then a yearly fee along with it.

Most people that were already famous would have at least two channels, some even having three or four. They did this because every subscriber on each channel added to their numbers, even if it was the same people subscribing over and over to their channels. This meant they could gain more fame points, allowing them to solidify their standings in the rankings, or even go up a rank or two. Usually, people did this to guarantee that they wouldn't fall off of their ranking, rather than using it to jump up in ranking.

For someone with the meager numbers of Sara's following, doing this made little to no sense.

Sara wanted to do this for two reasons. She wanted to re-invent herself, but she also felt that hiding her identity was the best possible way to go about it. From what she could tell, people loved mystery. Sara's current identity was not interesting in the least, but if no one knew about it….

So, since people with a low following wouldn't dream of setting up a second channel, then if someone ever started to compare her with her other channel, then they would definitely reconsider the similarities the two might have after seeing that her first channel was still very active.

Sara still planned on using her first channel, but she was going to use it as a cover. She would do what others before her had done and try to use her new found fame as a way to maintain her standing, but in the shadows she would allow her other identity to gain traction and hopefully gain her fame through it.

This was a risky decision, there was no guarantee that she would be able to make it with her second channel, but if she didn't take a risk, then she would eventually become just another Labor Worker in a few short years anyway.

After deciding her path, she got to work on making that second identity.

First, she checked her bank account.

From her savings that she had recently dipped into, she had a little over a grand left. It wasn't much, but the addition of the views and the fame she had recently come into, she received another three grand. It wasn't much, a little over four thousand dollars would be just enough to do what she wanted…..

First, she needed a new camera. She would like to have two camera's, but she didn't want to bank on having enough money to buy that second camera yet.

She needed new sound equipment and lighting equipment. This alone would bring her bank account amount down considerably.

But, if she wanted that ruse, she needed it.

For the first channel, since she was trying to make the illusion that she was working hard on it and that she was a silly spoilt girl that didn't understand that her fame was temporary, she needed the people on it to think that she had invested into that channel and that channel alone.

Next, she needed to pay the upfront cost of the second channel. She would be then left with enough to buy the bare minimum of things for that second channel. She couldn't use the lighting or sound equipment from her first channel as she didn't want people to see any similarities in the two channels. She needed to do something on the second channel that didn't require a new camera, sound and lighting equipment. She also needed a costume that could hide her identity.

If she bought a new camera and lighting equipment, then she would be flat broke. Sara hesitated on her plans.

She still wasn't sure what she would be doing on her second channel….If only there was something that would both hide her identity and change her voice and still have enough money left over to get the proper equipment to make sure her channel had good quality.

Sara tossed those thoughts to the back of her mind and began buying her equipment for her first channel.
