I woke up, groaning at the sound of the voice that always rings in my head. However, different from the other times I opened my eyes, my body actually hurt. I needed to stretch out a bit and doing so made me feel much better, although I could hear my bones snapping, or cracking or whatever. It was scary.

I nodded without hesitation, my brain trembling with excitement at what I was going to see.

"So this is what is referred to as the status screen? Truly most curious. In that case, what is this voice that is always speaking to me?"
I got no answer. Due to boredom from waiting, I turned to look around the cave. It was really dark and there was nothing special here. I approached a shiny object. It was a metal staff that human girl had attacked me with earlier on. Looking at it, the pain of being hit in the abdomen came rushing back and I held my stomach.
"Uuugghhh…"
I heard the sound of someone groaning. I excitedly turned around to see what was making that sound, but I was sorely disappointed when I saw the human girl who wacked me earlier. I walked over to her. She had beautiful red hair and green eyes, although she looked deathly pale and had lost a lot of blood. Her face was covered with scratches and she had lost an arm and both legs. Her only other arm had been injured beyond use and all her armor and clothes had become nothing but shreds.
The girl looked at me with her emerald eyes. I could see her mouth moving, almost like she wanted to say something. I couldn't tell what she was trying to convey, so I went closer to her. I sent my ear closer to her mouth and she did the unthinkable.
She spat right into my ear. And I think she shot off something weird because, my head started to ring violently. I could hear several voices screaming at me. My brain was going crazy. I felt like I was going to die.

I didn't know why, but I felt that if my health points reached zero, something bad would happen, but just then

My head started to calm down and I could think straight. I looked at the human girl that no longer had a satisfied smirk on her face. I wanted to walk away, but my stomach grumbled. I was starting to feel weak.

I looked at the human girl. I grabbed her staff and looked her right in the eye. I gave her the similar smirk she gave me while I was in pain and brought down her staff on her head, splitting her head in two. She was dead and I was covered in a weird substance that had escaped her head.

I dropped the bloody staff on the ground, and began to eat away at her body, leaving only the bones. Then my stamina seemed to be going up.

'Hmm? I still don't get it, but I want to test this skill too…'
I looked at the dead human girl and unconsciously grinned as I said the words,
"Activate Skill [Soul Consumption]."

For a brief moment, I was paralysed. Images and voices of people I had never seen before flashed through my head. All sorts information came flooding in, even though they were never complete. I could see the human girl from the moment she was born. Next she was a kindergartner playing with a bird. Then a teenager having her first kiss. She was so excited the next day she told her friends about it.
Her friends beat her up, saying she kissed their boyfriend. Next the girl was in a church, being trained to be a sister. The girl ran away from the church to a new town. She became an adventurer. She made friends. She came here. She died.
I looked at the dead body then shrugged. I grabbed the staff. Although it was two-thirds my size and not easy to wave around. Then I looked around once again. There was nothing here for me. I had confirmed something after viewing the girl's past. I wanted more. I wanted to explore. I wanted to see the world.
'Keke… Time to explore!'
